  1. Hey ladies, I thought I'd give you guys some information on my Oahu wedding! My husband and I got married May 31, 2011 and here's some pictures as well as some information on our vendors. I worked with a coordinator, Christina Farrow with Pacific Aisles and she was super sweet and extremely helpful. Our wedding was at Lanikuhonua. As you'll see in the photos, it was just beautiful! We stayed at J. W. Marriott right next to the venue. It was quite convenient to walk right over with my wedding dress on! hehe I got travel arrangement with DINA with Sunkissed Vacations! She was great to work out and I'm currently arranging another trip with her to Puerto Rico. Photos were with Dulce, our photographers were Johnny and Mitch. Super down to earth and as you can see the quality of their work was incredible. Flowers were done by Yvonne Designs and I really think she made my wedding a dream. It was so gorgeous with all the beautiful delicate orchids. Other details if anyone is curious, let me know! For now, enjoy the photos! Hope this was helpful! www.ilovedulce.com/susan_eric
  2. Hey I'm glad and sad that there are others out there that are going through the same thing. One of my FI's sisters actually suggested that we change our destination location because almost everyone has been to hawaii before. I understand it's not the most convenient to go to a destination wedding but I feel like the family is missing the whole reason for one. The intimate and tight atmosphere of family is such a beautiful thing. I have been trying to be understanding of all the complaints and chatter about money and cost of the trip. I know how you feel, it completely ruins the moment for you and your special day. Keep your head up and if you can help with money at least suggest that, my finance and I are paying for both our parents flight and accommodations. That seems to have quieted most of his 5 sisters.....
  3. Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has worked with Pacific Aisles wedding coordinating service or have heard anything about them. They seem to look great on their website + Pacific Aisles, Inc. / Hawaiian Island Wedding Planners + but they cost 5k minimum! I wonder if it's worth the money to hire them... I guess I am looking for a full blown wedding in Oahu... Any thoughts? Thanks in advance
  4. I hear you girls, thanks for all your responses. I am letting him do whatever is necessary to make them realize that we're going to be married soon. I'm not in any rush to get married but I just know that I found the right guy. I am going to support him and be by his side while he figures things out with his parents. It is very shallow what they're doing but I can't blame his parents, they are very ancient. He is the last out of 7 children and his father is almost in his 80's.
  5. I am definitley walking a fine line. I'm trying so hard not to say anything to him because I don't want him to feel that I don't understand his position. He doesn't want to be thrown out of the family and I completely understand that. He's a very good person and he basically wants everyone to be happy. I told him from day one that we would get approval out of respect for his parents but 5 yrs past and he wanted to propose I guess. I never pushed him to get married or anything but since I moved back home he wanted to make sure that I knew he was committed. That's what we discussed last night. I love him to death and really we're very happy with each other but I just hate that the family has to be so involved. My parents don't know that his parents don't approve, my parents would have a fit and tell me they don't approve just becuase his parents don't. Both our parents are very proud of us and they just won't tolerate anyone not accepting either one of us. Its' very difficult. We really do respect our parents opinions and love them very much.
  6. I found out last night that my FI hasn't told his parents that we were engaged becuase they told him that they would disown him if he married me. The other week he told them that we were going to go see them in november and his dad told him there would be no need to come back with your gf. His father told him that he can come back by himself and find another gf there. They got into it obviously after that and since then he had been acting really weird. Telling me that I should get to know his parents better and that I should make more effort into this relationship. Come to find out that he's just so pissed at his parents that he was putting it on me. Background: I'm Korean and they don't like the fact that our cultures aren't the same. Kicker: He's CHINESE!!! It's not like a world of a difference between the Korean culture and the chinese culture. Not a race issue a culture difference. So the one thing that I can't change about myself they have a problem with. They always agree that I'm a good person and that I'm a professional so everything is great other than the fact that I'm korean. Super depressed and frankly very angry...
  7. how many guests would you say is appropriate for Olowalu Plantation House?
  8. Thanks so much for your replies. crazyldy, I think I might have to go with a wedding on the resort grounds instead of a beach wedding. So far I'm guessing around 40-50 guests are going to be attending. My finace is the youngest out of 7 so half of that if not more are family... haha Brenna, absolutely so jealous that you've set a date for your wedding! Thanks for your info on the APDW, I'll send them an email once I get a resort booked.
  9. Amanda, I'm new to this forum and I noticed that you were looking into an October wedding in Maui. I was looking into an Oct/2010 wedding as well and really not sure where to begin. Hope you don't mind me asking but.... What made you decide on staying in Ka'anapali? Have you booked a hotel already? Are you using a Wedding Planning company? Just looking through the forum it looks like most people are using wedding planning companies. I noticed that people were using (A Dream Wedding Maui Style), (Makena Weddings), and (A Paradise Dream Wedding). All of them seem to have been very happy with their choices. Most brides seemed to have gone with Maui Wedding Cakes also. I'm hoping by keeping in touch with you we would have a better grasp at organizing all of this information!
  10. Thank you so much everyone! There's so much to think about planning a DW!
  11. I'm definitely looking forward to a Maui Wedding but I was wondering what people thought about the Marriott Resort. Anyone have any opinion on that resort? Does the beach get crowded there? Also I have read a lot on A Paradise Dream Wedding with Gordon Nash and I really think their photos are beautiful. I'm a little hesitant to "Order" online, there are so many decisions to make in terms of packages. How many hours are enough photography time and do you have to pick everything right away to get started with them? Thanks in advance for your help!
