Congrats and welcome to the forum! Enjoy your engagement and planning time...we've had a long engagement too and it's been a lot of fun!!!
  4. Yea for long engagements ;-) You must be so excited! Your wedding plans sound phenomenal and so unique. Trust me, this forum will be a life saver for you...so many great ideas and money saving tips! CONGRATS
  5. Wow...your guests are going to be floored! They definitely seem to capture the feel and theme of your wedding. Congrats--I'm inspired :-)
  6. Here's Ivan's contact info... He has two email addresses: [email protected] and [email protected] You can also check out his website, it's http://doremixx.com/ He's super nice and responds very quickly which isn't always the case with vendors is MX!!!
  7. Love your board Knbell!! I'm thinking of doing green with touches of deep purple for our colors as well. We'll have a little khaki in there too with the sand and FI's suit. This is a terrific thread!!!
  8. Thanks Holly!! We booked directly with DJ Ivan and he's been really responsive and helpful. FI and I were originally going to have our wedding at the Royal and we booked the DJ early to avoid a big price hike from the resort...he's been great with the changes and seems very flexible. He's mentioned to me that he would be happy to meet up during our site visit so I def think that it would be possible for you to interview him. We had a similar dilemma with engagement and wedding timing but decided to go with the longer engagement to give us more time to save/plan. Sometimes I think that a shorter time frame might keep me from so much glorious obsessing though!!! Is your travel agent doing a block for your guests or is everyone booking individually? I'm still trying to figure out which will give us the best rates.
  9. Congrats Holly!!! That is so exciting...you must be thrilled. Good question about florists, I've been wondering about that too. Did Luis have any suggestions? Maybe a search on the forum would provide some ideas?? We have tentatively reserved a May 2011 date at HTR and hope to officially book at our site visit in a few months. We've already booked DJ Ivan from Doremixx for the wedding reception along with the lighted dance floor...he's been great to work with and the pictures of the dance floor look amazing. Keep us updated on all of your planning!!!

We know the following but let me know if there are more: Main buffet restaurant - on the main floor w/the bronzed palm trees Mexican restaurant - upstairs Pool Restaurant - by the pool area Thanks!! Ana I'm definitely planning to take TONS of pics while on our site visit in May. Let me know if you have any specific questions for Luis or if you want a specific picture of something. I can't wait to see the place in person!!! Ash---is the 'ice breaker' included in the $20pp for the reception. I thought that Luis said that this was an additional $20pp but figured I'd check with you since you've been there and done that.

It seems strange to me for many reasons, first of all, we are booking a date, not a specific time...don't they do wedding everyday (except sunday) we may have up to 80 guests, and it is only fair to give them advance notice of our wedding. The other things that is super fishy, is that the 2011 wedding packages are already posted on their website. we really don't want to have to find a new resort, since we love the choice we have made...any advice. I just want to know if any other brides have been able to book a wedding a year in advance and at what resorts? I really want to get something in writing!! thanks, Jenna I've talked to several resorts so far in this process and none of them have expressed any problem with reserving the wedding date more than a year in advance. I would figure that for them, the earlier they fill the opening the better...more money for the resort, right?!? You probably can't book your trip but that part can wait. Communication with the resorts can be tough sometimes. Do you have a TA that can go to bat for you?
  12. Hi girls, So happy to hear from other brides that are already planning for 2011. We got engaged in July, 2009 and decided on a date in May 2011 pretty quickly. I was SO happy for 2010 to come around so people will soon stopping asking us "Don't you mean THIS May"" We already put a deposit down at the Royal in PDC but are now having 2nd thoughts because communication is so bad there. We're going on a site visit THIS May to check out the Royal and also Hacienda Tres Rios which isn't talked about much on the forum but is gorgeous!! They also only do 1 wedding per day which I love. Other than that, we've booked DJ Ivan and are planning to book a photographer in our area that will travel with us. Once we're for sure on the resort, it will be save the date time!!! So excited to follow everyone's planning :-)
  13. Welcome to the forum. You have tons of great choices in the RM. Do you want all adults or kid-friendly? Big or small resort? You'll find lots of resources here to help you narrow it down.

    Newbie!

Welcome to the forum and congrats! You've picked a gorgeous resort!!!!! Have fun planning.
  17. FI and I had our first vacation together in the Riviera Maya and loved it. It's also really easy/cheap to get to from the East coast. Picking the exact resort was a much harder decision!!
  18. I was going to suggest Amy Michelson too. I love her dresses and so many of them have beautiful low backs...very sexy!!
  19. Congrats Tara! I think Dreams Cancun has the most gorgeous ceremony reception ever! Have fun planning :-)
  20. Congrats Lauren! This forum def makes it so easier to plan. Have a great time with your wedding!!!
  21. Hi Ana, I need to check the info that I've received so far from Luis but I don't think that $185pp/pn seems too far off. We are meeting with Luis in person this May to go over wedding plans and room prices so I'll know a lot of details after that. He did offer FI and I a rate of $150pp/pn for our site visit which I thought was awesome. I don't know if this factors into things or not but Expedia rates don't include taxes or ground transfers. Also, I've been working with a BDW travel agent and she says that she can also book though the Luis/HTR which might be a good option. I'll get back to you with more detail after I go through my emails from Luis. Hope this helps...
