  3. MORE MORE MORE! Sitting on an bench made of ice As we took this, a bus carrying the Swiss Women's Hockey Team drove by honking and taking pictures! I guess they thought he was really proposing (and didn't see the photog) LOL The Ring:
  4. Here's a few of our Engagement photos. After having our first session canceled (on a beautiful winter day!), we rescheduled for a blustery day. We wanted all outdoor photos, but because of the weather, could only get a few. Oh well, our moms will be pleased with a few shots without my FI's arm stretched out in the pic! LOL. ENJOY!! My Fave!
  5. I finally took pictures of my hair flower, its a little different than I first posted, but I love it!! I think the feathers make it fun!
  6. Hey Girl! Sorry to hear you are feeling so glum!! I know how you feel about your DW feeling like an inconvenience. I feel like that from time to time and my FI always reminds me that this is what we want and in the end its only important that he and I are there. There is some concern that some of our guests won't be able to make it, including our parents and we would miss them, but we can't imagine our wedding anywhere else than in Jamaica. I also know how you feeling about the lack of attention on your wedding. My FI's cousin is getting married in June and they have created such a competition that its not fun anymore. I'm afraid that a family rift is going to erupt over the socials (some family is boycotting theirs b/c their mom didn't come to ours) and showers (we are closer to many of the aunt's and they have said they are spending more on us). I just want everyone to be happy for us all. Sometimes family sucks! LOL Just remember that you love your FI and can't wait to be his wife! No matter what happens, you found love and that is rare!
  7. I LOVE IT! Don't worry about others, wear what you want!!
  8. Finally glad to meet some other Grand Lido/Breezes Grand Negril Brides! We are getting married there June 1, 2010 and would love to hear feedback and see photos from anyone willing to share! Our WC is Yvette and so far she has been very helpful. We were there in 2007 and had the best vacation ever. But I'm curious to see how things have changed with the re-branding. I don't really need the free mani/pedi or 24 hour room service, but I hope the quality of service is still the same!
  9. If I ever work up the courage, I would like to get a Gemini symbol tattoo because I was born under the Gemini sign and its the sign of the twins, and I'm a twin, my mom's a twin, and her mom's a twin. So it represents a piece of me and my history that will never change. I would only get something permanent tattooed on me. But I have no idea where to get it. I like the foot idea but I'm afraid it hurts too much. My FI has 3 tattoos: a scorpio up one arm, a dragon up the other and a Canada flag on the underside of his arm, which he got on the 4th of July when he lived in the States. Apparently he thought it was funny at the time! LOL But he loves all of his, and I love them too. I never thought I'd date a guy with so many visible tattoos, and he looks intimidating, but is the sweetest guy. My mom didn't even care about them when she met him, which was a huge shocker!!
  10. Finally my social is done! It was FANTASTIC! I had the best time. My face hurt after only 20min of being there, so it was a long night!! We actually arrived later than we had planned, my FI is diabetic and because we had been running around and he didn't eat properly, he needed a nap. But when we got there at 9:45 the place was packed. Our wedding party was handling the door so they started cheering and the place erupted in cheers. We felt like rockstars! LOL I cannot say enough about the crew at Greendell Community Centre. They were so helpful and kept everything running so smoothly. Leonard and his team were so efficient and handled anything that came up, so we could just relax. Our prizes went over really well. We had to draw for the Wii & accessories, and the Big BBQ (we had 2) out of a huge tub because the paper bags couldn't hold all the tickets!! Hearing everyone's excitement over all the prizes (16 regular & 3 Grand) made all the hard work worth it. My faves were the "As Seen on TV" prize (who doesn't love the Slap Chop!), a Pilates starter kit, and a huge movie-style Popcorn maker. Unfortunately, our tickets were attacked by an over-zealous aunt, the one person we forgot to tell not to open them! But my FI's cousin is having a social April 1, so they are gonna buy them off of us. We bought way too many tickets, but at least we didn't run out. We bought all of our tickets at The Party Stuff Store except the drink tickets. We got really fun ones at Labelle's, they were sheets of 5 and each ticket said something different like "I'm thirsty" and "time for another drink". Everyone thought they were really fun. To make it easier, I ripped off one ticket, because 4 tickets were $10. One of the best things we did for the people at the door was give them a "cheat sheet": 4 drink tix=$10, $20=3 sheets, ect. This helped keep the lines moving and helped out our friends so they didn't have to do a lot of math!! Serving Pizza was a huge success. We ordered 50 and 43 got eaten in what seemed like minutes. Domino's delivered on time and when the bill was higher than we were quoted, a quick phone call honored what we were told. Because we had some guests who can't eat pizza, 2 meat trays were ordered along with a small amount of social food, and this was devoured as well. I am so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and bought this totally hott dress from Le Chateau Outlet (paid $29.99 for a $169 dress!!). I was so worried about wearing a strapless dress and almost bought a new one, but once I was there I didn't even think about it. And my FI used a free tux rental we won at a wedding show. It was great for everyone who can't be at our wedding to see us really dressed up, especially because we are not "dress up" people. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I can now be considered an expert lol. I received a lot of excellent help on the forum, so I would love to pay it forward.
  11. I LOVE Westjet, but we are flying AC because my travel agent got us a great deal. I don't think you can go wrong with either, but in my experience the flight attendants on WJ are way nicer and more helpful.

  13. Thanks for the advice Jules! We did buy extras just in case, and hopefully we don't get any over zealous helpers! We also got the sheet tickets, I love those! Summernightsky, I did a combo of emailing/calling/personal visits. Its good to stop by regular hang outs where they know your face. Also we got tons of help from our family and friends. Its easier to get donations if you know someone who works there as its getting harder for places to donate when the stuff gets misused. I'll do a full review of how tonight goes in a few days. I can't wait for it to be over, its a lot of work!! And getting "girly" is hard too! LOL I can barely type with my new nails!!
  14. We have looked at rings, and my FI is SO picky! LOL He is much fancier than I am. He wants to have a diamond in it, so the cost will go up. But he has HUGE fingers,so we need to order a custom ring, that is thicker than average so it is proportionate to his hand, making the diamond bigger too. The guy who designed mine quoted him around $1100. I thought that seemed high for a guy's ring, but with a diamond I guess that's right. And it's going to be his only wedding ring, so I guess we'll have to find the money to splurge.
  15. Hey girls! My social is next weekend! EEKK! There is still so much to do. My biggest problem is I don't know how many tickets to buy for everything. Liquor tickets are easy, but I don't know how many tickets to buy for the regular prizes, grand prizes, 50/50 and Texas Mickey. Particularly the last 2, where they will be "arms length". If anybody has any recommendations, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!!!
  16. I will definitely post a picture when they are done!! AnnaBanana: Buying material for dresses is usually pretty cheap, but I think the labour costs are up to the seamstress. I'm lucky that my MOH's mom is making them. I told her I would pay for the labour, but she is refusing. So I'm going to buy her a great gift instead!
  17. This was the inspiration dress. At the last minute we decided to go with a strapless version of this dress. They are going to be so cute!!!!
  18. I am so excited! We went shopping yesterday for the fabric for my BM and we found exactly what I wanted! I was worried I wouldn't be able to find the obscure color I fell in love with, but Michell's Fabrics has the best selection. It only took me 2 minutes to find the Iridescent Sunrise Taffeta I wanted!!! And what's better is the dresses are costing $42 a girl, instead of $198 from the store. Its so nice to know a seamstress! Its another relief to have the dresses getting started. Just one more thing on the list!!!
  19. Thanks girls! I know I have to just let it go, its out of our control. Its nice to have a place to vent though!!! And its nice to know I'm not the only one dealing with these things!
  20. Hi ladies! I need to vent a little!!! My FI has a cousin is getting married June 19th (on their grandma's 80th birthday, which is drama for another day!) and since our DW is June 1st, our social and shower's are close together. Since they had picked their day first we checked with them before setting ours and they had no problem since our AHR is July 24th and just a casual BBQ. Only my FI's parents are coming to Jamaica, so his family basically have one big white fluffy wedding, and then our BBQ. My shower has been set a month after theirs, at our request to help out the family. So what's the problem, right?? We have helped them in so many ways and never minded. But suddenly everything is a competition. Our socials are a month apart and they are competing to see who sells more tickets. They keep asking what our prizes are, and I don't even want to tell them anymore because I feel like we're being judged. Not to mention that they copied our letter word for word and I gave them a list of every business who donated to us, which I've been working on for like 5 months!!! But I never minded until now, because we were all friends. Now the mom's are competing, and I'll admit my FMIL has been sucked in. But my FI's aunt practically hates us for having our wedding close to theirs. And trashes us every chance she gets! Apparently because they have a child together and got engaged a few months before us gives them the right to call dibs on everything. My FI and I have been together 2 years longer than them and everyone had been waiting for us to tie the knot since before they even met. I know I sound petty, but its starting to get to me. Now bridal showers are becoming an issue, and again its all our fault. I honestly don't even want one because of the drama. All the other aunts are starting to take sides, mainly mine, but I feel bad because I don't want them turning on my FI's cousin. I don't want my shower to be a competition either, its suppose to be fun! My FI is so upset, he doesn't want to help them in anyway now, and that's not like him. I really just don't want a permanent rift to occur because of our wedding. Its putting a damper on everything. Our social is coming up and I don't want it to be awkward, although his aunt refuses to come anyway. We have been considerate of them every step of the way, and they've never once considered us. And yet we are the bad guys!! GGRRR Its so frustrating. Thanks for listening and if anyone has advice I'll be glad to hear it!!!
  21. Hi! Wow, I haven't checked this thread in a bit. Jenn, I did receive $150 in gift certs from Fabutan. My FI has a friend at BP's, so he said he had that covered too. I never heard back from Famous Players, and never tried Tan FX or Earls, so I'll check them out! Today I got a donation from Rumour's in the mail. I always get excited when I check it! LOL Some of the other places that have donated are: Thunder Rapids, The Love Nest, Pelo Loco Salon & Spa, Paintball Paradise, Soul Haven, Golf Dome, Fude and Extreme Tactics. My friends and family have also been great at getting stuff from their businesses, I think it helps to know people!!!! Have you started looking for donations yet??
