LisaAndDre, just be careful of the hidden fees at Tensing. I found this out from another bride that used to be on this forum and had some issues with Tensing. She was the one that alerted me to a $10 set up fee per guest- made me wonder what else they would be charging for! I'd rather know up front what I'm getting into...Rockhouse doesn't even charge for day passes, and if the rooms are split between 3-4 people the price isn't that bad at all! Just be sure to check everything out.

Oh, and don't let not having an onsite WC turn you off! I hear Ari is amazing and actually contacted her for my wedding when I was thinking about having it at Tensing, but Tensing does not allow other WC's there. Her helpfulness, knowledge, and contacts may be very valuable and when figured in with the cheaper cost of VSM, it may even out.

Oh lisa, I hope you figure it out! Either way, I'm sure your wedding will be AMAZING! Don't stess so much! It just depends on what is most important to you- start with that. I just loved Rockhouse so much when we stayed there that I couldn't imagine any place else. It didn't help that Inise and the staff there were soooo cool and helpful compared to other places I had been in contact with. Pay attention to your vision and go with it wherever you decide to have your wedding and it will turn out fine. Also, break down the costs for your cheapo family; my family (and me) is cheap too, so I figured out the costs per room for 4 and it wasn't that bad. Even a VILLA for 4 (and 4 of the villas already have an upstairs loft) work out to $265 per person INCLUDING TAX- total for the whole 3 nights. That is not bad...

I live near Chicago and am on their email list. I really want to go! A friend of mine went and had the time of her life. She said there wasn't only skinny girls there and everyone was so nice. She also said not only was it fun, but she was sore the next day! Now that I've started a new job downtown (Chicago), I may be able to start going after work.

Hi bizzyangel! That's ok, I was on this site constantly and working on the wedding before we were "officially engaged". I'm getting married in Jamaica in April 2011 as well! There's a lot of good info on this site so happy planning!

@downtownlagirl- yes we are renting out the whole resort!! The WC there, Inise, is awesome to work with. If you're considering Rockhouse you'd better act fast as they book up quickly and only do 20 weddings a year. @tropical love- there's a thread on suggestions of what to put in OOT bags (out of town bags). It's under "General Wedding Information", then Registry, Gifts & OOT bags.

Filene's is having it's Running of the Brides sale next Friday (July 23rd) in Chicago. Oh this is so pi$$ing me off! We have the whole resort, but that is still limited to 34 rooms/villas and there are couples that are inviting their friends. Well, actually their friends are inviting themselves after seeing the STD's! I have a contact form on our website where potential guests put their contact info, desired room type and whether they are staying 3 nights only or the entire 7 nights- then there's a space for comments. I just had someone send me a contact form that said in the comments section "Hi! We are friends of so and so". WHAT!! This is wrecking my nerves as we are paying for the 1st night for specific room types, the catamaran cruise, and the reception food! I have a FAQ's page on my website, but the answer addressing that question was a quarter of the way down the page so I just moved it to the top of the page. What is wrong with people??

You are so rigtht TanyonL! I just went with my gut, and I'm a lot more happy now FI and I stayed at Rockhouse last September then took an extended tour of Tensing after eating at Alice's across the street. I have wanted to get married at Rockhouse from day 1, but FI thought that Tensing would be better because of the bigger residences (such as Long House). In the end, we both knew that Rockhouse was a better choice for us as we had met the WC and the general manager, Charlotte, and they are the most genuine, helpful people ever! I don't regret a thing!

Congrats mrseyes! I'm sure you'll have a beautiful day! I'm sure the new WC will be of more help; unfortunately the old one turned me off with her nonchalant attitude. At least pretend you're as excited as I am for my wedding day even though you see dozens a year, lol!
