Thanks Nicole - After an exhausting time researching and reviewing area resorts, we decided on the Iberostar Resort for a few reasons: (1) It was family friendly. Most of our guests are adults, but my nephew is a year and a half old, and he will also be our ring bearer, so I couldn't exactly choose a place that excluded him. (2) There are 5 levels of hotels so based on the guests price ranges, they can make a decision on where they want to stay. They range anywhere from your standard, all-inclusive family style up to a couples-only/adult-exclusive, top-top-top shelf/higher-end hotel. We are starting out our trip on the more family friendly, less expensive side so we can spend time with our guests. But after a few days, we're upgrading to the Grande (their adults-only, couples-exclusive, honeymoon-esque) resort for the remainder of our stay. The Grand is more comparable to a Dreams, Beaches, etc. We found Iberostar to be a good balance between between beautiful photos, great locations for the ceremony (you have your choice between the beach, chapel, or gazebo), affordable room rates, plenty to do, great location, and accommodating to our guests. Oh, and you can also rent out one of their restaurants for a private reception. And the per-head amount is a lot better than the competition (even though it is so silly that you're paying per head even though the guests are staying at the hotel and it's all-inclusive....). Now I'm starting to sound like an adverstisement for Iberostar. If you need any additional information or specific details, by all means, let me know. Best of luck, Emily

My sister went on vacation last spring with her husband and as part of the "great deal" they paid for the vacation package, they also sat through a 90-minute presentation about buying a timeshare. Sure it took up some of their vacation time, but she said if you can be firm that you are not interested, you actually can have some fun with it. She said they kept throwing more and more into the time share package, where she and her husband were actually starting to consider it. Not to mention, they were serving them top shelf liquor the entire time. In the end, they stook to their guns and refused the offer, but they had the people trying to sell so hard that they could've really walked away with an awesome deal. Nonetheless, they still had a good deal on an impromptu vacation that only costs them an additional 90-minutes for the presentation.

You picked out some GREAT styles. I guess the one thing that I would say, which has been recommended to me and is really impacting my decision, is that a lot of beach weddings (if yours is on a beach) can be hot, humid, and windy. DW brides that have worn their hair down have mentioned that it is all over the place when they're down on the beach. This may not be the case with you, but just something to consider. I think I'm going for something nice and neat in the back with a big flower (like one of the photos you attached) - that way, a lot less hair to go all over.

Pashmina Order

Just sent you a PM. We think we'll hold off this time around...unfortunately it is just too much of a crap shoot right now when guessing who will come. It could be about a 30-50 person differential. Thanks anyway for pulling this together!! I hope to get in on the next one! -
Beach Weddings - 5 Musts for Beach Invitation Wording

Thanks for the post! Very helpful! -
Congrats on the engagement and welcome aboard. We, too, were trying to decide between Mexico & the DR in the beginning. Although I know my sister had a wonderful time on her honeymoon in the DR, in the end, we opted for Mexico. When we weighed the options, there seemed to be more to do in Mexico and while the hotels were comparable, the flights to Mexico tend to be more reasonable for our guests than to the DR.

Welcome! I'm DC to Mexico. We were toying with the idea of a local wedding until we started looking into the details of a DC wedding. Especially when you want one on the water - you're pretty much left with a cruise on the Potomac or something on the water in Annapolis. We were instantly sold on the idea of a destination wedding and we haven't looked back. Good luck deciding and happy wedding planning!

I'm really glad you posted this. It got me thinking about the timing as well...and since I've read some posts about doing it right after we're announced, I think we'll follow in suit. Especially since we do not intend to have the photographer for the entire reception. May as well make the most of his time and snap a few professional photos while we dance.

Congrats and welcome! I'm another DC girl, DC to Mexico. After looking around at what it would be like to do a DC wedding, I think we are all making the right choice by doing it far away on a beach.

Can you imagine checking a bag that was shaking like maracas?? That is probably a first for the airline -

Oh, and she also said that Paypal tacks on a 3.5% transaction fee. Just something to keep in mind.... -
Pashmina Order

Hey ladies! I went back through the old pashmina thread and this is what the buyer posted: "So its 3.55 a Pashima and divided between all of us the shipping is 3.89 from the vendor to me. I need to see how many pashimas will fit in a flat rate box to determine how much the shipping will be from me to you." Is that what we should expect to pay per pashmina? -

Awesome! It's probably a little premature for me to order when I have no idea how many ladies are actually coming, but I think I might be in...and it may be a sizeable order, like 40 or 50? I'll have to run through my guest list and do a best guess on who will be making it. I'm such a sucker for a good deal -

I agree. I think the maracas would be a great item for the OOT bags. Or, for something to attach to the place cards. Or even on the table as an accent. It could be a favor/table decoration. -
Anyone honeymooning in Thailand, Vietnam, or Cambodia?
Emmers replied to Emmers's topic in Honeymoon Talk
Mlabbe - Thank you sooo much for the feedback. I think you're right about focusing on one rather than spending all your time in airports, etc. A couple years ago, I went with one of my friends to Turkey. Originally, we were going to go to Turkey, Greece, and Jordan; in the end we realized that we could fill the two weeks with Turkey alone, and that did not even allow us to do all there was to do. Thailand is probably my first choice, too, and I think we'll go that way. Thanks again for the feedback!! LadyTrunck - Italy will be amazing. When I was there last, it was more of a touristy thing, but the fiance and I were just talking about how romantic Italy could be for a honeymoon as well. We just need to try something different since I've been there and he's been there twice. You'll have an amazing time!
