  1. I found a white dress that I loved & thought was perfect for my shower....but they don't make it anymore! What are some good websites for cute dresses? I've already looked at VS.

  3. Omg these are seriously awesome and have made my day! Thanks for sharing. I'm kind of bummed I haven't attended any weddings as "awesome" as these stories....the only story I have is from my manager's wedding, which I did not attend, but saw pictures. Keep in mind I am from Southern Indiana which =farmland, hunters...big time CAMO lovers. So her wedding took place at a park I think. It was her second wedding so I think it's fine to do something casual, even though the aisle and shelter house/gazebo they used for the ceremony were kind of tacky, but nothing absolutely horrible. Her dress was pretty BUT here comes the kicker...the color, or I guess I should say colors, of the wedding were CAMO! The groom & gm's wore camo vests and ties! Then the centerpiece,s omg!!! It's like these circular pieces of tree with grass on top, some fake leaves scattered on top, and candles stuck in the middle. Then in some pictures it looks like some kind of antler thing is attached. Ugh I don't know but I would NEVER do camo.

It was a great experience by the way! We took the ring to a GIA certified appraiser and she appraised the engagement ring and the wedding band. She took photos of both rings, evaluated the diamonds, and measured the diamonds, clarity, and color. The ring acutally appraised at almost twice what we paid for it. We paid $5300 for the set and the appraisal said $9238. Hope this helps! Definitely helps me become more furious lol but no seriously, I appreciate all the feedback b/c everyone I have talked to has said it has appraised for at least what they paid, if not more. I have not spoken to one person who had their ring appraised for less than what they paid. Grrrrr

However, now 3 years later, when we switched insurance companies, they required a recent appraisal (I think within the last year). So the new appraisal states that the ring is worth less than what was paid for it, but again, it is 3--almost 4--years after it was purchased, so with inflation and all those fun factors, I can see how it would occur. But a recently purchased ring, with the appraisal at time of purchase, that just doesn't make sense. My thoughts exactly "it doesn't make sense". This is the appraisal given by the jeweler who sold it when my FI bought it brand new. I can't wait to go there tomorrow and figure out what is up because if it is onlly worht what he appraised it for, he has some major explaining to do over the $1000 he ripped my FI off.

My ring is insured on our homeowner's insurance and it doesn't costs that much to have it on there--it's worth it to replace it if anything happens. My insurance covers exactly what was written on the appraisal, which is why I'ms teamed over this because if it's a $1000 difference and something happens to my ring, then I'm not going to get as nice of a ring if it has to be replaced.

Mine was bought at Costco and they guarantee it will be appraised at higher than what you pay. If the jeweller is saying that the ring is worth $1000 less than what he charged you, then he's got some explaining to do! Haha thank you, you said exactly what I have been fuming over and cannot understand. I'm making my FI go in there to ask about it because he is more level-headed. If he comes out and doens't get any good answers though then Lord they better watch out. I bought his ring there and we have yet to buy my band there. If they don't explain things or make me happy then I swear we'll get my band elsewhere. I may just slap the owner if I find out he ripped off my FI. Haha j/k...but I may think about it!
  8. Thanks! You too. Does it costs to have someone else appraise it?

I guess this is why I'm so concerned about making sure it's insured for the correct amount.

So I figure I will pay the higher premiums for a few years then likely just cancel it and self insure. Just makes me feel safer if I left it somewhere when travelling or dropped it or something idiotic that I've been known to do. I also agree with having the ring insured for what it's worth. I would never pay double either...that doesn't make sense. I mean why would you think your ring was worth double...but I also don't understand how the appraisal can be that much less than what he paid. My ring is on my homeowner's insurance so it doesn't costs that much to insure it. I just want to make sure I have it insured for what it would costs to replace it.
  11. Well I know the diamonds are really good quality...I mean from what the appraisal says. It looked up what all of the grading & color means and my diamonds are colorless, etc. so it's not a cheap ring. I could understand if the FI bought a cheaper ring & diamonds and it appraised for less, but this just doesn't make sense.

IT's actually insured for almost double what he paid for it because of the good deal he got on the diamond. Hope you get this sorted out...I'd be curious to hear others opinions! See that's what I always thought too! And I had my mom check her insurance statement to see how hers was and hers is what her husband paid, or more....oh and she went to the same jewelery store. I'm thinking they messed up.
  13. Ok so I have a question that hopefully doesn't sound too ignorant. When the jeweler appraises your ring, say your engagement ring, do they appraise it for what you paid? Or, for example, would it be appraised for less than what you paid? The reason I ask is because last night my FI asked why I had my engagement ring insured for $1000 less than what he paid. I pulled out the appraisal paper and saw that that is what the jeweler (which he bought it from) appraised it for. I thought the whole point of insuring your ring was in to be on the safe side in case you had to replace it. How am I supposed to replace my ring when it's appraised/insure for $1000 less! I'm wondering if they messed it up when they typed up the paper, but I wanted to ask here first before I have my FI go into the jewelry store and possibly make a fool of himself.

  20. I need to decide on my shoes for the wedding so that I have them when I get my dress altered. I know that I want flat sandals with a little bit of bling, but I cannot decide when ones or which color. It is between silver or light gold, but I'm leaning towards light gold due to my dress. My dress color is champagne, which is basically a lighter ivory. Let me know your opinions on these shoes and which color. Thanks!
