August 2010 Brides!
hunniebee724 replied to randp8910's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
My surprise bridal shower was today! I totally wasn't expecting it. I told my fiance to tell my mom and MOH not to throw me one because of the expense of the cruise, but they did it anyway, and I'm very grateful. I was especially happy to see family members and friends who cannot make it to the wedding, because I don't see them often. My great-aunt told me the story of how my grandmother introduced her to my great-uncle, and how they would've been married 63 years last week (he passed away last year). They had such a cute love story....she said she hopes we have as many years of love as they did. 38 days to go! -

Thoughts? Maybe I'll just make that a separate shirt. That would be so cute! My brother was hooked on his blanket too...even when it was washed so many times it ended up in pieces!

You can also get group perks depending on the cruise you choose and the amount of rooms you book. If you use a TA, he or she will link all the bookings so you can eat together if you choose the same dining time. We had some issues with Carnival's group cruise department, and I'm glad I had her to deal with the problems for me, because I know I would've turned into bridezilla on them!

Is there any way you can find out exactly who would be doing your hair & makeup and speak to them? I'm getting married on a cruise so I'm not sure how the resorts work. Is it in your budget to take a makeup lesson before you leave? Some of the spa's around here offer makeup application lessons. Maybe they do that where you live. I don't know a thing about makeup so if I wasn't having my hair & makeup done before we got to the port (the wedding will take place before the ship sails), I would totally save the money I'm spending on that and take the lesson so I could do my own makeup.

Petite Brides
hunniebee724 replied to MissSimone's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I'm 5'1" and picked this dress from David's Bridal: Satin A-line Halter with Split Front - David's Bridal I needed it hemmed and taken in on the sides, but I went to a local seamstress and with the bustle it only came to $125. My wedding dress is also the same size as my normal dress size, which apparently is weird...but they had me trying on bigger sizes and they were way too big on me. My friend is 4'11" and got her wedding dress from Group USA. She didn't have any problems with fit either. Those seamstresses can work wonders for us petite brides! -
Welcome, and congratulations! I'm getting married on the Carnival Miracle next month. We choose the cruise based on the port (we live in NJ so we can drive to NYC), the time of year (I'm a teacher so I'm off for the summer) and the itinerary (we didn't go with RCCL because the ship was only going to 1 port instead of 3). The particular cruise we chose was the cheapest of the August cruises, but it was still pretty expensive for our guests because it's an 8 day cruise. We gave them a year's notice though, and we ended up having 21 cruising guests. This is our first cruise, so I've spent countless hours the past year on CruiseCritic. Between that site and this one, I feel completely prepared for my cruise wedding!

Wedding Colors--What Goes With Purple?
hunniebee724 replied to karielk's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
My mom is wearing a deep purple dress to my wedding, and the people at the tux shop suggested my dad wear a champagne vest and tie to match her purple dress. -
Wonderful! He always comes through at just the right time!

Are you wearing a Garter

I wasn't planning on doing a bouquet or garter toss, but I ended up with 2 extra bridesmaid bouquets because 2 of my girls dropped out after I bought the bouquets so now I'm going to use one for the bouquet toss. I finally found a garter that I like on etsy today. It's black & white with music notes and a black rosette. -

We picked out the tuxes today, and I have my first fitting on Monday! I'm in the process of putting together a pre-cruise newsletter right now, and then I'll start on the key card holders. We'll probably go to NYC either next week or the week after to get our marriage license. -
If you alter the dress to the heel, you'll have to hold your dress up as you walk down the aisle. But if you alter the dress to your bare feet, your entire shoe will be visible during your reception. I guess it would depend on which is more important to you. I would wear wedge flip flops down the aisle and alter the dress to the heel, but I don't like going barefoot.

My water bottles are here!

Thanks! The design was one of DiscountMug's clipart options, so that probably contributed to the quick turnaround, but it definitely went with our Caribbean cruise theme! TiffandMarv...you're getting married on my birthday! -
I placed my order with DiscountMugs.com on Saturday, June 12th. I originally asked for the 16oz Polycarbonate water bottles--red with black imprinting. A few days after my order, I was contacted via e-mail by someone at DiscountMugs asking if it would be ok to change the imprint to white, because the black imprint would not show up well on the red bottles. I agreed, and was glad they caught my mistake and didn't just print them! They were delivered today and I LOVE them! I can't wait to give them to my cruising guests! I tried to get a better picture, but I couldn't get rid of the glare. The top line says, "Melissa & Robby's Wedding Cruise" (Yep, FI's birth name is Robby, not Robert). I know some ladies on here had bad experiences with DiscountMugs, but my experience was great, and I had my order in a little over 2 weeks.
