All of these BDW girls are absolutely right. When I first found this forum, I thought I had found gold!! The girls on this forum are here for all of your needs, whether you want to vent about someone or something, get the latest updates on celebrities, or if you're looking for the perfect photographer! My suggestion would also be to do as much research as possible before you lock anything in. I didn't know a photographer at home that I would have liked to fly down, so I've hired Sascha Gluck. He will be doing our engagement pictures in January and our wedding in June, 2010. Good luck with planning!!

Erika - I'm so sorry to hear about your accident, I had no idea! I'm so happy to hear you are making serious progress and I hope the stitches come out smoothly and everything heals well. It's so nice to know you have a FI at your side that cares more about how you feel about each other than how you look : ) It's so nice to know how much support there is for our fellow BDW ladies!! Wow, I can't believe someone would do that! I'm so sorry for all the additional stress and anxiety you must be going through. I totally don't think you are overreacting. I do think that by changing your date, you are giving her some power, but if that will relieve your stress, then you have to do what's best for you. Have you already sent out STD's and invitations?? Make sure to think about how many other guests will have to change their plans (besides your friends) and remember that January can be a busy month with family vacations to warmer destinations. If you change the date, there may be a few other friends that will make it to the entire ceremony and reception, but there may be others that won't be able to make it at all. Let us know what the reception site comes up with for an alternative plan!!

Don't worry too much about what others think. Like the other DW brides out there have said already, this was a personal decision that you and your FI made. If they can make it, great, if not, then that's ok too. By hosting a destination wedding, we as brides are taking the risk of not having those closest to us attend. If people are not able to attend because they don't agree with your idea, they won't have a good time when they are there and those aren't the type of people you want to celebrate this huge milestone in your life anyway! Be yourself, and do what makes you happy!!!

Congrats, and welcome to the forum. This has been a tremendous help for me in planning a destination wedding, hopefully it will be that helpful for you too!!

My FI and I are doing a small courthouse ceremony a week or two before we hop on the plane. I didn't even think about the passport situation, but glad to know I won't have to take care of all of that until after we get back!! I think we are just inviting our parents and not telling any of our guests. We want to make sure that our ceremony in Mexico is really special for us and our guests!

We are going for "beach chic" too. We will be putting that on our invites, but on our website we have devoted a page to telling our guests what "beach chic" means. We added a picture for guys and gals - hopefully that won't create too many questions. I would make sure to just be as descriptive as possible, and put something up on your website if possible! I'm sad you will no longer be having the beach wedding you always dreamed of, but it sounds like you and your FI have made a great compromise! Also, I've heard that you should hold onto your receipts so that they know you are not trying to resell the items in a different country. I agree with Becks too, just enlist the help of friends to get them wrapped once you arrive. Good luck!
