  1. Shannon- gee, I better start watching the news because I've been so busy, i didn't hear about the plane! Sam33- You have lots done! I have no where near as much done as you. I have my dress and shoes, and the guys all have their pants... The girls dresses and colors are chosen. I have ideas about some small details but nothing in the works. I'm definitely not doing crazy OOT bags. Most likely simple favors, welcome letters, etc. I have to really watch the current budget because our AHR has gotten bigger than originally planned. I have to focus on getting invitations out this fall. I did the STD in July. I've been spending money on deposits for my AHR- so I have everything planned and booked for that. I'm happy about that. I'm waiting for contact with travel agent to check prices so we can get booking.

I can't wait to hear about your planning at the Maya since yours is before mine! A lot of people seem to get married at the DelMar/Paraiso beach locations, so I'm feeling I need some more info about the Maya!!

So I'm thinking cocktails right after, and maybe reception/dinner from 6-10? or 7-11? I don't know! I'd like to hear others thoughts.

Other than a backyard, or park, where else can you host a BBQ AHR? We found a place that is basically a farm- Francis Farm in Mass. they do a lot of clam bakes, BBQ's, and the like. YOu can also get married there. They have a wide variety of menus. Most local people have family reunions, or work parties there that are very informal- outdoors, volleyball, etc..However, I'm using that facility but having a night time reception- so it will be casual but not too casual. We'll be having a BBQ chicken buffet with salad and a few other sides. There will be linens and china but its still just out on this covered pavillion. So..casual and a little cheaper, but it will be fancied up a bit with the linens and my centerpieces!
  5. I'm absolutely wearing my dress at my AHR. Its at a casual place, but I don't care! I don't see any reason to go out and buy another dress for what is going to be my wedding reception- I should be wearing my WEDDING dress! Everyone will want to see it also! Just my opinion. I can't wait to wear it twice!

Thanks, Noel Noel, I've eaten at the Brazillian Restaurant and its not my personal cup of tea, but it may be yours. Also, they may do it differently for a wedding. They serve several varieties of meat on skewers- the waiters come around with the meat on long metal skewers and put it on your plate. You get a lot of food, if you like the meats! I do remember you got good service because they are constantly coming around. that was in 2006 and I was there with my family.

What are your thoughts... Does anyone have any review or pics from there BBQ AHR? We had planned a park BBQ...but couldn't find anywhere that allowed alcohol , had bathrooms...etc. We found a nice casual place where our reception will be outside, and the menu is reasonable, but still for our large guest list its really adding up. also now I'm getting a DJ and photographer....Its getting out of hand, but I'm happy because with having it at a 'facility' there is someone there running the show and making sure things will go smoothly. we're excited now to have almost a second wedding, without the vows! I'm going with things like the resorts photographer to cut back on excess spending, rather than hiring an outside person, etc...i'm not going to go nuts with fancy invites and stuffed OOT bags..... have to compromise somewhere because we are paying for all of it
  8. Mine isn't until next August but I'm thinking we will do some pictures throughout the cocktail hour and mingle with guests as well. Then, prior to the start of the dinner we will do an entrance, first dance, toast, then begin dinner. I don't know if thats 'right'.....but I really want the chance to do a dance and I really want to have his grandparents walk in because they won't be coming to mexico.
  9. I am definitely wearing my dress. My AHR location is pretty casual. I decided that I don't care what other people wear, but I'm the bride and I'm wearing my dress! The wedding party and my fiance will all wear their outfits too. EUREAKA: good question about the hair. I don't think its a big deal if you wear it the same way. I'm thinking mine will be up for both events, but with two different people doing it its bound to look different a little!

  11. I will let you know Shannon....- yours is at the Del Mar correct? I've been there in 2006 w/my family. I really liked the seafood restaurant. I don't think I went to the Italian...i don't remember there being an Italian. I don't know why I can't remember- There is the steakhouse, Japanese, Brazilian (Rodizio I thought it was called but that might be at the Riu resorts...) Seafood which I think is called Mediterranean, and....the other must be Italian. Have to check if its the same at the Lindo/Maya. I think it must be.

I stacked them so the largest was on the bottom, going up to the smallest box on the top. This allows the cards to fall all the way through and have room. I bought "paradise" calendars for $1 each at Michaels, tore the pictures out, and tore each picture into scraps. I used Mod Podge to decoupage the scraps of the calendar pictures onto each box. The top tier had scraps from the sky, the middle tier had scraps from the sand, and the bottom tier had scraps from the water parts of the pictures. So, while it is somehwat of a typical tiered box, it is totally unique the way I decorated it and I love it Not sure if I can post photos, but I'll try! wow that is just an awesome idea!

Oh Ok GOOD! the brazillian is meat, meat, and more meat...not exactly what I want that night. Can't wait to look into the restaurants more!

Thanks, Noel [email protected] I went to the Iberostar Paraiso beach in 2006. They were in the process of building the new spa in the convention center, and it was only open for massages. Let me tell you, you won't need to look anywhere else! In my opinion it was a gorgeous, modern, huge building with so many cool things like mineral therapy pools.....etc.... I think all the resorts share this spa, its huge. I can't wait to go back for my wedding and get a massage!
  15. Thanks so much. that was very helpful! I am jealous about the photography! I wish I could do an outside photographer but the expenses for our AHR are already more than we thought, and there is no way we can do an outside person- I'm bummed! Anyway...overall was the resort pretty, neat , clean...? I stayed at the Paraiso beach in 2006 and I loved it..I just hope everything is just as nice now! One more question....is the Tropical Restaurant the Brazilian Restaurant? and if so do you stick to that menu or is there a special menu? Thanks!

Mine is at the Maya so I feel that as being the same as the Lindo since they share the property...I'm anxious to hear about your trip!

(we did all the negotiating before booking or reserving a date and there was some wiggle room because they wanted our business). But from the sounds of it you already booked rooms so that is out of the question. Basically, they have you by the gonads and there isn't to much for negotiating now that everything is booked. You can however look into outside vendors for more economical pricing and better quality (I recommend this and we did this and we loved the results). Wish I had a better answer for you... yes....I guess although it seems like a great deal I'm seeing that you pay for stuff that you ALREADY pay for by being a guest. I didn't book any rooms yet- we have the date confirmed and provided our CC and other info and thats it. Our date isn't until next summer....I was hoping to get some discount based on rooms booked but not going to happen it seems!

I called and paid over the phone and the rep. gave me 100 of them for free and some other discount- I only paid $78 for 200 STD's with envelopes that had our return address printed on the back. Awesome! Everyone got them yesterday and our wedding site has gotten so many hits! I included the site on the STD's!

Lots of other girls have done literally bottles of water with special labels. I am definitely doing the travel mugs for the purpose of having a larger drink at the pool bars! I saw people do that at the Rui Palace on our trip we tok in April- all the guests seem to love them! Its a great idea. You can bring them home and use them too so its a nice idea.
  20. ok....this is my question- WHY are we paying so much a person for dinner and drinks when everyone in attendance is a guest of the hotel and all drinks, food is INCLUDED? I do NOT get it. SHANNON: We love beer pong too- great question!

I also took a few pictures at lindo and maya. Wow! the Grand is awesome! We have some kids coming to Mexico- at least 4, so we are staying at the Maya and having the wedding there, but then I want to go to the Grand for 2 nights after the wedding. I can't wait!
  23. Thanks everyone! Its so exciting. Now I can't wait to wear it!
