So I know my family was shocked to learn that there are additional per person charges for the wedding and rehersal dinner. They assumed that the site fee would include it all since the hotel was all inclusive. I do agree with the hotels that some price per person is fair due to the private service and set up and break down. I wanted to get an idea of what the going rate was in the RM... At Barcelo The Strawberry PKG is 3000 for 15 people and $66 per person after that this is for all outdoor weddings, open-air grills, or a la cartes I understand the beach wedding, but think the price is a total rip off if you are at one of the open-air grills or a la cartes There is also a Mint Breeze Pkg which can only be used in the banquet rooms and it is site fee of low 2k for 15-20 peopl with an additional $24 per person I think this is a fair price for site and per person...my thought is this should be the price for all locations...but that is just me Can't wait to hear the feedback! You get the first 15 included in the 3000 and then it is an additional $66 per person From looking at other resorts it seems the average price is around 3000 for the first 15-20 and then $18-30 per person for a beach reception food/beverage So I am just shocked that they want all this money even for the open air grills/a la cartes We are bringing 75 people so it is becoming very very expensive for us on top of the cocktail hour (which no we dont have to have, but people love when you are taking your photos) and we would like to have a 4th hour of reception, but there is an additional charge per person for that as well so I think we are only going to do 3 hours of reception which I do think should be enough

Can I vent...Sorry ahead of time. We were so excited for our wedding a the Barcelo Palace next April and still are excited, but we are so fed up with the WC and how their first response is NO we can't do that or to do what we pretty much consider over-charging on basic stuff has gotten us quite frustrated! I wish that i had the general managers email, because we are very very upset! The 2 biggest things are I think that the strawberry passion package is for an outdoor beach reception...I understand the extra charge because they do not have kitchen right there...but to say they are going to charge 66 per person plus a site fee of 3500 which is 175 per person for the first 20 people for an open air grill or one of the a la cartes that is already closed on Saturday night seems out of control. Secondly my friend got married at the RIU 2 months ago...there was no extra charge for bringing in someone to do her hair or makeup, the WC set up group dinner reservations in advance, they delivered the guests bags for free, and overall made them feel as though they wanted their business...all these extra vendor charges and no photography charges that they are putting in to place to make extra money I think is price gouging! Yes we are still getting married there and I am sure they are not going to change for us because another 1000 brides want to get married there next year. But by the time you add up all their fees it would have been much cheaper to get married in Denver! That wasnt my dream though I have always wanted a beach wedding. i just hope that the WC starts working with the brides and realizes that we all had a choice when we picked the Barcelo and we have a choice up until the day we bring our guests there.

I cant wait to see the pics! I am still so confused why if they are inside you have to pay for the outdoor beach reception...can anyone help me to understand this? We want an indoor reception...a/c for dancing, but would like to be close to the beach Any idea what are costs are going to be? Thanks!

If you have a larger wedding party is Barcelo flexible at all on the prices? 66 per person is much higher than a lot of the other resorts...but we loved Barcelo so we booked!

So I called today to book our wedding...the 2 dates we had wanted Sunset 4/10 and 4/24 were gone because of the slow response So my advice would be if you want to get a response call. They were super nice on the phone and emailed me right after we finished talking to confirm our converstaion

So I am freaking out tonight. I have now heard from a friend and ask costa rica that this is a port town and not a great place to get married....we have not sent out STD's but have started to tell people 4/10/2010 at the Double Tree Puntarenas. I think we made the mistake of trying to make too many people happy as this was not our first choice location and now it is back firing. Thanks for letting me vent and any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Laura

Just wanted to say so happy to have found this site! You ladies are helping keep my country stress in check

So I have known that I have always wanted a beach wedding and luckily my fiance agrees So he proposed this weekend and now we are trying to decide what country. Our good friends are getting married in Mexico this fall so that country is out. We would like somewhere that has affordable flights from CO, KY, and Philly...I know I am making this hard...lol Kids will be invited and we were thinking all inclusive since quite a few people will be using this as a vacation and that will be better for everyone. So if anyone has any suggestions on countries and hotels I would greatly appreciate the help! Probably April of 2010? Thanks and happy wedding planning, Laura
