I won't be numbering the tables but I will provide a seating list and diagram for the staff to follow when setting up. I did my own design and will be using small tent cards (2 x 3.5 business card size) from Avery - no fussing with frames or stands.
  2. Congrats and thanks for sharing! Love the pictures...you were a beautiful bride! Wonderful to hear that Karla treated you so well. I am leaving tomorrow for the resort (on vacation) and am meeting Karla on Saturday morning. I have two details I want to work out and then I will feel better about doing the rest of the planning by email. Continue the basking in married life! I can't wait to do the same!
  3. Keira, congrats and thank you for all the info you have shared! Sounds like Karla did a great job for you, and that is good news for all of us who have Karla as our WC. I am leaving for the resort on Friday (Nov 13) for a week vacation with 5 girlfriends and am meeting with Karla on Saturday morning. I have some basic requests that I would like to sort out in person and then I will be happy and comfortable to continue the rest of the arrangements by email. This was not a planned "site visit" just a vacation with friends but luckily it just turned out that way in the end. Keep the pictures coming and congrats again. You are a MRS!!!
  4. We arrive Saturday the 20th...it would be great to meet up at some point!

I have never been on a forum before (not a super computer person) so hopefully this works! Hey Raykel, we are getting married the same day!! We are booked at the Akumal beach location on February 25th, 2010. When are you arriving at the resort?
  6. Tough situation...but you really need to find out what their plans are so that you can move ahead or move on. Whether or not to have an MC really depends on you and how you have your wedding day structured. We aren't having an MC at all...we are doing things very informally. Good luck with your MC's!
  7. I will be at the GBP Tulum starting Nov 13 for a week. Doing a girl's vacation and combined site visit/meeting with the wedding coordinator. Happy Scouting!!
  8. Jananaz congratulations and welcome back! Can't wait to see your photos and hear all about it! I was especially happy to hear you had nice things to say about Karla. She is the coordinator for our wedding in February 2010. I actually get to meet her in November when 5 girlfriends and I go for a vacation in November. So when I get back I can let everyone know how it went. 79 more sleeps!!

Essentially we are going to wait until we get a good price and that can mean at least a few more months. Last year a group of us (20 people) went to the Mayan in February and we didn't book until early January. I kept an eye on prices for the resort we wanted on the internet and my TA kept her eye on the space available on the plane and at the resort for the date we wanted. It was kind of nerve wracking waiting so long but it was also kind of fun. May not be what most brides would consider doing, but we are going to keep an eye on prices and hold out for a while. Which resort are you going to?
  10. We are going to do a group booking. Most of you already covered the advantages of this....my MOH is also my TA. We have had several group quotes but the rates are still too high given that we are still 7 months away. So she has advised that we wait a while longer and get re-quoted. I am feeling some anxiety over this but I trust her completely.
  11. We're getting married back in Canada after the ceremony in Mexico. No one knows except my TA who is also my MOH and her husband who is also my FI's BM. We consider the ceremony the "real wedding" and the marriage in Canada is just the "paper work" to us.
  12. I am partial to the beige pants with the white shirt. I like that your FI would be different from the GM's... Decisions, decisions! Good luck!
  13. I was also a little apprehensive about black until my MOH's and I went shopping last night. We found the greatest black cocktail dresses at Reitman's (Canada). They have a v neckline (front and back) sleeveless, empire waist detailing and a flowing skirt. Perfect for many body types. They were inexpensive (under $60) and they can be worn again! Our main colours were red and white so the black works in beautifully! Go for black!!

  15. Hmmm, I hadn't heard this...thanks for the heads up!
  16. We have decided to get legally married after we return from our DW. Neither of us have living parents so we have only told my BM (who is also my TA) and her husband. We felt that since our TA will be involved in the arrangements she should know the truth about our plans. And since it wasn't fair to have her keep it from her husband, we included him. He will be conducting our Sand Ceremony. We expressed our desire to keep the legal wedding a secret and also told them we could use a couple of trusted allies in Mexico to help execute the secret. When we return home and go to make it legal, they will be our witnesses.
  17. Wow... They really did put a lot of thought and effort into this for you...so glad that you had a wonderful time!!
  18. Great stories ladies...keep them coming! My FI and I dated in high school 28 years ago...parted ways and started separate lives, got married and had kids. I knew he was the one when we re-connected at a local bar (girls night out for me and he was there with some baseball friends) - both now separated from our spouses. The next night we went for drinks and talked for hours on end. And the rest they say is history...My girlfriend jokes that while I knew he was the one all along, it took my FI 28 years to figure it out! He was worth the wait and we keep saying that we had to be apart in order to come back together again as the people we are today for our second chance at love.
  19. We are toying with the same idea. My FI's co-worker does photography as a weekend hobby and his pictures are awesome! We joked that he should do our wedding at the GBP in Mexico...no decision has been made yet, but it is "not out of the realm of possibility" as my FI puts it! If we decide against bringing our own photographer with us, we are going to provide SD cards for some of our guests who love to take pictures (some of them are quite creative as well!!)...sort of along the same lines as providing cameras at the reception that was so widely done in the past. Bottom line - there is no right or wrong way to do this...whatever works for you! Happy planning!

We have booked the Mediterranean Restaurant for our Dinner and wondering if anyone has any comments on it. We are also considering the Disco for the reception but have no idea of the price or if it will just be for the wedding guests. Please help! The Mediterranean restaurant is one of my favourites on the property...we have stayed at Bahia Coba five times and have dined there each time. Great pick!!
  21. We have used a label maker and it has worked well. You can use the person's real name or a nick name...wedding date...personal message...whatever. We also have purchased party straws...the resort does not use them and we like to sip our slushy drinks instead of tipping the cup. Love the other ideas ladies! So creative!!
  22. I have used a label maker in the past and it worked perfectly! I think you can get clear labels that would print with black...if you put that on the silver part of the mug, it would look pretty good! You could use the persons "real" name or a nick name, and even put your wedding date or a personal message on it. Another fun thing to do with the mugs is buy some party straws...you know the ones with the fake flowers on them and other things...the decorations have to be material or plastic though...paper (as in the paper parasol ones) will be destroyed in no time. We have always brought straws for our travel mugs as the resort we frequent doesn't supply them.

Getting married on February 25, 2010 at the Akumal location (staying at Coba). We have been there 5 times, so if you have any questions let me know. Welcome and happy planning! Christine

She's not charging us commission, so that's a bonus! I feel comforted with what you are saying. I'm going to trust that it will all work out and whoever can afford to come, will come! I think the biggest thing for me is that we get the 'wedding' that we want, so we need to just go with it. That's great that you have been to your resort many times before...makes deciding easier! We have only been to one resort (H10 Ocean Coral) in the Mayan but we know we don't want to have our wedding there, one reason is because of location. So, it's a bit unnerving booking something where we have never been. The Riu Yucatan seems like a safer bet, as many of our guests have stayed there and liked it, but they dont seem to cater to weddings as much as Sandos Playacar. I just want everyone to be happy. Sigh. Thanks again for your reply! Let's be in touch with our planning, etc! Have you sent out your invitations? Jennifer I'll send you a personal message (PM)!
