  1. I agree. I hate trip advisor. It actually ruins the place a little when you read all the crap b/c you go in with a negative mind and everything is so wonderful, but you can tell you keep looking for the bad to happen. I am looking for a honeymoon spot for me & DH, and reading trip advisor SUCKS. I dont want to use it -- how else can you find a great hotel to honeymoon at? Maybe expedia?? Any suggestions?
  2. Its so true -- the support system here is the best thing I had the months leading up to my wedding. And it was amazing how well received everything I did was - "the best gift bags" "amazing ceremony" "incredible excursions"... and you know what - I have to credit everything - even if it was just the beginning of an idea I made my own - to other brides on this forum. This is a truly amazing set of women. Maybe we all do destination weddings for a reason? Sounds like a thesis could come out of all the love & support on here!!! And now I must ask you all - where should I go on my honeymoon I would love to go back to Mexico but my brother is giving us first class tix anywhere we want to go using his continental points. So, we kinda want to go far away. DH ants to go south of the border. Any suggestions? I was thinking of an Amazon river cruise in Peru but I really want to relax and relive my time at Azul beach... Thoughts? Oh, and we'd only go for a week to a week and 1/2 so no Australia or South Africa or Bali - although I'd die to go to any of those! We were thinking August or September...
  3. Wow ! Welcome back Renee! I love your set up, its gorgeous! And you look AMAZING girl! That's so great that everything was perfect for you. Makes all that stress seem silly now doesn't it? All of my guests raved about how great everything was - the beauty of the setting, the great food, good music.... Such a relief! I hope to see more of your pictures soon! xx Amy

Before you pay they send it through to the resort for the GM's approval and sign off. Seems like "duh they should already have approved" but this is Karisma/Lomas, so I really want your stuff to be set ASAP!!! Hmm..what to do? Thanks Amanda. Love that idea! You could do cities you lived in plus ones you have visited or where your parents and grandparents grew up. I think you are on the right track though - sounds amazing!!! Quote: Originally Posted by amandamarieb They look lovely. I agree your look better than the photo you sent. They put them by the DJ table after the wedding and looked great. The sheets were double the usual price b/c they have to use 2 on the sides and 2 front to back so it was $300 (instead of $150). Chairs were free - uncovered & no bows. (i did pay more for extra chairs though b/c of the size of my wedding)
  5. Hi girls, here is my ceremony. It meant a lot to me and I would appreciate if you kept it for your eyes only and did not distribute outside of this group. I took information from this website (see http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...-script-21660/ ) as well as The Knot and ministers websites around the world. We wrote our own vows together for what was important to us. If you are doing the legal ceremony, you can change some of the set ceremony, however since the judges do not speak perfect English, you might want to have your guests do readings - such as the sand ceremony, hand ceremony, or poems. Good luck! Our Ceremony - for posting on BDW.doc
  6. I also want to point out to the brides upcoming - if you have pictures how you want things - make sure you show the WC in Miami and bring the pictures (2 copies in case both Lomas and hotel WC want them) to Mexico. They are amazing at recreating things. What I wanted the set up to look like: What it did look like: Google images, look on flickr, and check out other brides on this site!

I did pictures after the ceremony too. With everything we did being so nontraditional, I wanted there to be something traditional in the wedding. But the pictures ate up most of the cocktail party, so there are pluses and minuses to everything! Quote: Originally Posted by suzannepdc We did have to pay for the fabric that they use to decorate. I think the white is cheaper for some reason, but that's all we paid for on that since we did not want the flowers they sometimes put on it (they were expensive and we didn't really think they added anything). I wonder if your WC thinks you mean a flower arch when you are comparing the 2? There is a gazebo and a canopy (the 4 wooden pillars) but I think you could also buy a flowered arch. I used 4 sheets of fabric on the canopy so it would come down on all 4 sides (see pix recently posted). All were white and cost $300. Yes, that's a lot of money for fabric, but the alternative of buying and bringing it and maybe it being the wrong size greatly outweighed the cost to me. My dilemma is even though i may only pay 25 buxs for silk flowers and a vase, I may still end up spending almost 50 to 60 buxs in checking luggage. I'm just not sure if its worth the hassle I had 5 centerpeices which were $50 each. Square vases and total diameter was probably 12-14 inches. They were gorgeous. I think you need to consider what your theme is, how many tables you have, and how formal your wedding is going to be. The bigger and more formal, you probably need to have big/nice centerpieces. If your wedding is less formal, you could get away with almost anything! Another idea is to have framed pictures on each table. I used pictures of love birds to denote table seating - so instead of #s - there were really nice 5x5 or 5x7 picture frames. You could go fancy or casual with the picture frames you use and you can use them again. Eveeryone's name card had a small picture of the love bird on it, and they found their table by matching it to the frame. Check out my bouquet! AMAZING!!!!!

Do you know how much that was per person? Haha I know what you mean. It was more just fun having lights and smoke - I think the pictures will be cute. I'll post some of mine, I know how it could be construed as cheesy but everything else was classy so I think thats what made it cute Um well from my personal experience, a cocktail reception wont help that and neither will a schedule! My mom of all people went back to her room at 7pm (start of the reception) and missed our entrance and had to stand by the DJ during our first song. I almost think no cocktails and telling ppl the reception starts 15 mins early would have made people more prepared. I had to tell some of my friends to go into the reception at 7pm - they were like "why?" and I said "I am waiting here to get announced, everyone should be sitting down now." and my friends were like "oh!" haha If I had to do it over, think I would ask a friend to help the WCs do that as ppl don't always pay attention to the resort staff. The salad was $4 extra and everyone LOVED it. It was spicy and delicious.

Does anyone know if their is any kind of separate pricing for the Private Reception for children? I know that lots of resorts offer a 2 for 1 or children under 12 are free but I haven't been able to find any details about that for the AS yet. Thanks in advance, and here's hoping I officially become an AS bride soon! Welcome and congrats on narrowing it all down - very exciting time indeed! You know, I ordered our kids nuggets and fries, but I think they might have given her the surf & turf. I remember her eating it but maybe it was her mom's plate! Haha, anyways, yes kids menu is free like Wendy said! Good luck in your beginnings phase :-)

We def are big dancers as are our friends but as we are trying to cut a little from everywhere on budget, we haven't decided about the DJ. Thanks in advance! My DJ was awesome. Everyone raved about him. Here is the list of songs I sent them ahead of time. They added some others here and there. I wish I would have given some sample songs for the dinner too. There was some cheesey-ish music that I didn't like - but then he brought out "Thats Amore" and the tables were singing during the main courses! The DJ helped b/c he had a smoke machine, lights, baloons, and glow sticks. So if you do it yourself, I would maybe bring some props with you. Here is where I would have saved if I did it over again: removed the cocktail party (could have just gone to the pool bar - no one ate the food), gone with house/free wine, limited flowers, plus I used their white tablecloths/napkins for free and add runners on tables ($5-$7 per runner). I personally would not like to remove the DJ unless I had someone who would watch the music for me. The wedding on Thurs before mine they did their own music and they all had a blast - so its good either way I think! Here are the songs for our reception. I have burned a CD in case the DJ needs them. Note they are in iTunes' file format, not mp3. Just want to make sure the DJ can play that file type. Bride and Groom Entrance: Best Friend by Weezer - start at 0:34 First Dance: This Kind of Love by Sister Hazel Father Daughter: Wild World by Cat Stevens Mother Son: Forever Young by Alphaville For music choices, during dinner we like slower music, but upbeat. For dancing music, we like newer stuff like Lady Gaga and The Black Eye Peas. Here are some songs we like below. I've added some oldies type music at the bottom. Thanks! Some song choices are: I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas No One by Alicia Keys Fire Burning by Sean Kingston Dangerous by Akon Single Ladies by Beyonce Evacuate the Dance Floor by Cascada Disturbia by Rhianna So What by Pink Good Girls Go Bad by Cobra Starship Whatever you Like by TI I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry Come Away With Me by Norah Jones Down Under by Men at Work Your Song by Elton John Make you Feel My Love by ADELE Breathless by Corrine Bailey Rae Sail Away by David Gray Low by Flo Rida Right Round by Flo Rida Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus And oldies like: Take a Chance on Me Give It Up I Got you Babe Build me Up Buttercup Life is Rollercoaster (I cant Get No) Satisfaction Brown Eyed Girl That should be enough for the DJ to get an idea of what we like.
  11. Yes, we did the lounge area to the left of the DJ set up. There were 2 couches, 1 or 2 chairs, and about 2 ottomans with the pink and orange pillows. It was cute. They added a few tea light candles as well. Did anyone write Thank You notes to the people in Mexico? I never tipped the hotel WC. Did anyone?

Most of our AB brides on here don't have weddings until 2011, but Sara's (dirtymartini) is in November this year. I think might have started this already. They were chipping away at that mansion past the AB - you know the one that is between AB & the nudey resort? That must be where they are expanding b/c the Villa is right next door on the other side. It was not overly noisy but I would not get a bachfront massage until 6pm or later. Quote: Originally Posted by chong Am I over reacting about the flower cost? Chong i"ll post my pix, the pix I gave the resort, and the prices. I think all in (5 bouquets, 5 boutineers, 5 centerpeices, and canopy flowers) it was about $300-$400 total. And they were the prettiest flowers I have seen at a wedding. Quote: Originally Posted by thefuturemrslutz Ok girls, if you guys want to see my engagement pics... Make sure you let them know everything you want, they may be hesitant at first, but thats what you want so thats what they'll do. I wanted to stand on the right (usual guys side) b/c of my one strapped dress - and they said "oh thats not where the bride usually stands" and so on and I said "thats ok, that is the side I am going to stand on. And the storm clouds look so good in pictures. That super sucks about you having to move again. Can his company give him a time or length committment in Little Rock? I have only heard GREAT things about Little Rock. It sounds so southern to me, but anyone I have met who has worked there or gone down for a business trip loves it. I would actually consider it myself. I hope you have a smooth transition.. You deserve to have your honeymoon phase uninterrupted! Also do flowers and stuff have to come from LOMAS? OK, well I think Karisma is owned by this guy who also owns LOMAS. I am not sure, but I really think they are all interrelated. The hotel uses a vendor, Lomas, to handle all special events including weddings. So you have a WC from Lomas and also one from the hotel. You meet with both for your planning meeting. Lomas then uses the spa people from the hotel. So, it must be all interrelated somehow. I used the hair & make up people. Stay tuned for my review, but I can tell you that they are very good, you just have to be very specific as you get your stuff done. They recreated my hair perfectly, but other people we did have to say _ more volume or less volume - etc. They don't just take your hair and use their creativity and they always said "I think it looks good" for everything. For example, I brought down fake eyelashes from MAC which were ridiculously long. They put them on and I was like "now way, I look like a doll" they were like an inch long! But the spa lady said she thought they looked good. My friends handed her the scissors and told her to cut the length in half. MUCH better! They were happy to make any changes we wanted. DH said she was really nice before the ceremony and calming. She read our ceremony perfectly and even edited some parts wher I had grammatical errors. I'll post my ceremony script later for anyone who is interested.
  14. Lindz, your new pic looks awesome - so cute and what an angle! Here are 2 quick ones. Good thing I took tomorrow off from work. Its almost 130am!
  15. I thought she was just an onlooker during the ceremony until picture time I realized someone was consoling her and one of my guests said, yeah, shes that bride whose wedding was supposed to be today and was canceled. Well it was definitely not supposed to be on May 29th since I had that date booked for over a year. It didn't matter to us though, we were soooooo happy! Everything was awesome. We had the minister wedding - it was the woman with long dark hair. Her voice was so soothing and her english was excellent. I wish I had taken that honeymoon right after though. Its not very relaxing organizing all those excursions, welcoming each person, saying goodbyes, and talking to everyone ll day. It was awesome - but I really wish I had another week in Mexico
  16. All I can say is definitely stay for an extra week. We thought we didn't need a honeymoon after our wedding and I am just back tonight and seriously regret not going straight to honeymoon! The week leading up to your wedding you spend all of your time divided btwn family & friends that it will be awesome to go somewhere just the 2 of you. My best friend honeymooned in Excellence and they had the best time ever. It was honeymooners paradise.

Can't wait to read your review and check out your photos!!!!!!!! I've got less than 12 months and you recent brides are keeping me sane! lol Welcome Back! Oh yeah - I would only think about STDs, invitations, and your dress until you are 6 months out. We could have planned the entire wedding including 3 excursions once down there. I know you don't want to do that - but at least let it reassure you that they only need pictures of flowers you want and table set ups and DJ play lists like 3 days in advance. Yeah - I felt bad for the girl, but come on, you do not stand and sob at someone's wedding. Bad form dude. Meghan & any upcoming brides - not sure if you are planning on buying wine - but I totally regret not just using the house wine at our reception. The wine we bought ran out so fast (8 bottles red and 8 of white) and no one even realized they were drinking good stuff! The house wines are good for the white and pretty good red.

Both were nice but its hard to see in the gazebo so if you are having a wedding party of more than a maid of honor and best man you will probably have to do what Wendy did on the pavement or the canopy. I also took a good picture of the lobby where the "rainy day" wedding location is and I think its gorgeous. You'd probably have less on lookers as well there but its not on the beach. Anyways, I'll post them in the next few days.
  19. Hi girls! I'm baaaacccckkkkkkkk!!! Its late and I should unpack and get to sleep but wanted to say hi and let you know I had the most beautiful, fun, amazing wedding! I am sure you had a beautiful perfect day Renee too! Friday was gorgeous weather as well. We snuck down to AS on Monday but I could not hear any Texas accents - was looking for you :-) I will tell you all more later, but my guests who were going to get bumped to AS Fri-Sun b/c Beach was booked were able to stay at Azul Beach all weekend after all - I was so excited! I found out during my wedding why.... There was a onlooker in a bikini sobbing during my entire ceremony and family pictures, and bridal prty pictures on the beach with a friend consoling her. Seriously for an entire hour. Turns out she was supposed to get married that weekend - called off the wedding - and her family still went as vacation. And she sobbed in a bikini and towel 50 feet from my ceremony and pictures!!! Even with the crazy crying girl, I was still so thankful no one has to move to another hotel. Will start working on some photos to post soon. I have to do my planning thread and review as well. The flowers though - were AMAZING. Prettiest wedding flowers I have ever seen. wow wow wow
  20. Ok girls.... I am closing up the computer and getting ready to go to bed. 9 hours til I board my flight to Miami and then off to Cancun. I have 2 suitcases packed and Mark has 3 (2 of which are the OOT bags). I have the wedding details sheet printed as well as our ceremony and readings; packed my USB key with all the details. Shoes - check; dress - check; rings - check!!! I am so nervous and excited !!!! This has been over a year coming and I am so happy its here but also sad that it means my wedding planning days are over. Its been a roller coaster of emotion, starting from when, 2 months after getting engaged, FI got transferred to Boston and we've been living apart for 9 months. I can't say I regret anything - even my stupid travel agent got us a beachfront massage and our guests on the short list for upgrades, so it seems it was just a hassle more than anything looking back. Very surreal now... Anyways, I will post my planning thread and review when I get back. Hope you all have a great week and think of me on May 29th!!!! Amy
  21. OMG 7 days until my wedding!!!!!!! Renee - 6 to yours - hope your To Do list is getting lots crossed off girlie!
  22. Girls - I am so excited I can barely breathe! ahhhhh!!! Meredith, I am sorry to hear about your friend. Its nice that you have had someone in your life that you admire; I am sure she will follow you in spirit throughout your life. RE your invites, I really think its bad to send invites to people who are not coming. Maybe ask a couple of the people who are not coming what they think Could you do that? Everyone is different so maybe your family & friends agree with your cousin and think its bad form? Also, I did not include any information regarding wedding locations except to say Azul Beach & beachfront wedding. Thats it. I have a welcome letter and a schedule for everyone when they arrive that have the locations on them. You dont need to tell people beofre they arrive where your reception is held. Chong - I printed menu cards and am having them places at the settings. I got the idea from a bride on here - I have the 4 courses listed as "first date" "courtship" "marriage" and "honeymoon" - How freaking cute is that!!!! Lastly, I got on the scale this morning, and yes I did have a couple bottles of wine between friends last night so I probably was a bit dehydrated but it said I hit my target wedding weight and lost 25 pounds!!!!! I am so excited!!!!! Probably will not step on the scale before I leave now and just keep this high note. OK, going to the beach to work on my tan now. Tomorrow is a spa day and finish packing, leave Monday at 6am!!!! woo hooooooooooooooooo

He just finished organizing the shuttle vans from hotel to the location -- it took him weeks and he sees how much work planning a wedding is now WOO HOO - I leave in 54 hours!!!!!!!!!!
  24. I second that from Wendy! I might get a couple pix of me & FI blown up into posters around the room where my AHR is - however that is months away... Yours is next saturday - GIRL - you need to rest after the wedding of the century! Maybe bring a computer and ask guests from mexico to bring USB keys with pictures on it to share, but I think all you really need is your hubby & a smile. Its going to be a blast - and will keep that honeymoon feeling you have going!
