  1. As a photographer I hear things like this all the time. Some just give up and do a local wedding, but IMHO bride and groom should do what they want as it's their wedding!! Good luck!
  2. I think Havana is an amazing spot to hold your wedding. There are also some resorts just on the outskirts of the city if your guests still want to stay at a regular resort and enjoy the beach. Then it's just a 20 minute taxi ride to the city. Good luck!
  3. Well, I've been to the Domnican many times and a lot of great resorts out there(most are somewhat similar in what they have/offer). Kids friendly...well...you'll find a lot of old ladies on the beaches without their tops regardless, and kids will be seeing those.
  4. Some travel agencies can act a bit like a planner and help you book everything and offer suggestions. But a local planner is always better because he/she would know all in and outs as it's their job!
  5. The only way their dinner was 15,000 if they brought 400 people or more... and I really doubt it's the case here Chances are, there's an extra zero there or your friend wanted you to think she spent millions on her wedding ))) Some hotels have packages that include a dinner for all the guests, but most require additional charge, which is around $20-35pp cheers! Here's a link to sunwing site for your references so you can check what hotel may include and at what price. You can get a lot for 1500-2000(two thousand and not twenty ) http://www.sunwing.ca/Cuba-Travel/Weddings-in-Varadero.asp
  6. Yes, there's also a Reserve. btw. you can get free wifi there even if you are not staying in this section, but nice enough to the staff
  7. Here's an image of a map that I have of this resort. The big orange houses by the beach are restaurants. 35 is the Spa. 1-10 is the reception area with the casino, meeting rooms, banquet halls, bars, etc. 30 is the recreation centre(scuba, tours, etc). Square houses are bungalos where you'd be staying Walking is not easy as it's a big resort, but there are shuttle cars that run every 15 min or so.. http://www.dmitrimarkine.com/pages/Paradisus-Punta-Cana-Map.jpg Hope it helps!! EDIT: Found a site which shows what those numbers mean. You can get it here:
  8. I photographed a wedding there not too long ago. You can have a private reception there. Food was pretty good!! They have 2 queen size bed rooms, suites, and other options. Of course, suites are more expensive and look amazing inside. Speaking of service...they have big bottles of rum, gin, beer in the room(free). I don't drink and I haven't used them, but I've never seen so many choices in any hotel I've been to. It's very beautiful there, but the beach is pretty crowded since the resort is huge. You'll have a lot of naked/half naked people walking and standing around Cheers!
  9. How about an advice from someone who've seen a few hundred brides I had a few weddings where brides had traditional big dresses and they were suffering a bit. September-November is pretty humid and you'll be sweating a lot. If you are ok with that then go for it. The thing with heat is that if one part of your body starts to sweat, the heat will transfer to the rest of your body, including your head. You might want to make sure your make-up is waterproof. Even summer weddings here in Canada sometime are tough brides and they end up making adjustments to the layers to make it easier for them. Sunset in November is around 5:30-6pm. So,if you put on your dress an hour or so before the ceremony then you'll be ok. On the second day you can dress up again and do the "trash the dress" session with your photographer. I am sure your photographer will have suggestions for you in that aspect. Cheers!
