  1. Congrats Zuzel! I'm in the same boat, girl! My date is Oct. 3rd 2009, and picking a resort was overpowering. I fell in love with a different place every time I got a few hours to look around online. I think I have decided on Excellence Playa Mujeres, but my super-close runners up were Aventura Palace, El Dorado Royale (but there's no pool or beach food/drink service), Secrets Maroma (the beach was voted best in Mexico by the Travel Channel) and Occidental Royal Hideaway. I have been to the Moon Palace a few times, and I remember seeing weddings there that were gorgeous! I just want to go somewhere new. I have only been doing my research for a few months, and I have until the end of April to put down my deposit b/c they have a promotion going until then. I'm just stalling b/c I am so indecisive. If you have any questions, please let me know...I have found out a LOT of little details about different resorts that took me a little digging to find. CONGRATS!
  2. Hi Ladies! One of the most important aspect to picking my AI resort is quality of the beach. My fiance has never been out of the country and has as his only wedding request for the beach to "look like the ones on the Travel Channel". I have been to a few Carribean islands and Mexico a couple of times and I just want to make sure that he isn't disappointed with the beach, because I have been places where the beach wasn't all it was claimed to be online. If anyone has any info. or advice about beaches at AI resorts near Cancun, Maroma, Isla Mujeres, and Playa del Carmen, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I don't want weird seaweed, scratchy rough sand or sandbags. We would like to be able to swim in gorgeous water and snorkle close by! Congrats everyone!!!
  3. Hi ladies! I didn't see anywhere for October 2009 brides to post that was our very own...so here we go! What colors are you using? Does weather stress you out? If anyone who has been married in early October near Cancun, please let me know what the weather was like...I'm a little nervous. Congrats to all!!!
  4. I just wanted to know if anyone out there had any clever ideas of a wedding tradition other than garter belts and "sand ceremonies". I just can't piture myself doing either of these. I know the old adage "something borrowed, something blue..." but there's got to be other options to get that "heritage" feel to my wedding without the cheesiness. Congrats ladies!!!!
  5. I love the idea...starfish were already such a big influence in my wedding decor! I can't wait to get mine!
  6. I just wanted to drop a quick line and let you ladies know that I saw a few weddings at the Moon Palace 2 years ago when I stayed at the resort for 10 days. They looked AMAZING! The setting for the first one I saw (from a distance) was so breathtaking that I can still "see" it in my head! Congrats! to you all, you will definitely not be disappointed with the service, location, or anything else at this resort!
  7. Hi Tracy! I'm pretty sure we've decided to have our wedding at the Exellence Playa Mujeres too. My date is 10/03/09 so I'm running waaay behind. You mentioned in your reply under my thread about having a friend who advised you to pick the EPM. Did your friend love the beach? I'm always just so skeptical because there's so many ways to manipulate a picture on the web. I can't wait until I am sure that this is "the" place! I'll be sure to let you know if I get married here. Congrats to you too!
  8. I think that the surprose is the best part. I'm choosing NOT to go somewhere (island, town, or resort) that I have ever been to, so I'll have that "seeing Disney World for the first time as a kid" feeling. As long as your with your honey and do a little research on great forums like these....how could you go wrong CONGRATS!!
  9. CONGRATS!!! I would love to hear your thoughts on your recent wedding at the Excellence Playa Mujeres. It's in my final five resorts for my upcoming October 2009 wedding. Since I'm planning so late, I'm trying to play catch up--and any info, advice would be great. And again, congratulations!
  10. I am planning a wedding this fall near Playa del Carmen at the advice of some friends who LOVED it there. I have been to Cancun a few times, though...which is only about 45 mins away. Just in case you choose this area, make sure you check out the local cave-bar called El Lux in Playa del carmen. My best friend has shown me pictures, and it looks like the craziest place to grab a drink or meal..EVER. I cant wait to actually BE THERE! All of the historical Mayan sites are cool, too ( Chichinitza, Tulum, etc) and there are within like 30 mins, just make sure you price the trips with people who have been, I think we got riipped of when we visited through our resort. There are pics of it posted on Tripadvisor as well. Good luck!
  11. Hi! I'm Lori, and this is my first post. My weddding date is Oct 3rd (I know its hurricane season then, but having lived in Savannah, GA and Charleston SC all my life- I'm not run off by hurricanes). I am having SO much difficulty picking a resort. Any advice from those married in the Maya Riviera region would be greatly aprreciated. I only have about 8 guests coming, and chose a destination wedding to dodge the planning and stress coupled with my inability to make a decision. I definatly want my wedding in this region, and it has to be at an allinclusive resort (my dadwon't go anywhere else). My fiance has requested "a beach like the ones you see on the Travel Channel" whhich has led my closer to the Maroma beach area. The quality of the resort beaches (sand texture, water color and clarity, and ability to do minor snorkeling are priority. My fiance has never been out of the country ( I have been 6 or 7 times to the Caribbean and Mexico alone) so it is SO important not to disappoint him. I fell in love with El Dorado Royale, but I'm more of a fun loving, margarita girl than a romantic, uppity food girl (alhtough quality of food is very important- I wasn't impressed with the Palace resort food last time I went to Cancun). I don't want outside vendors, I want to keep it simple, and I want vibrant mango and magenta tropical flowers, so if your know of a the perfect resort for me...PLEASE help!! Thanks!
