  1. Hi everyone! I emailed Chandlyn asking for a script for the ceremony and she said she doesn't give them out. Has anyone had any luck hearing from her? My wedding is in 20 days and she is nowhere to be found! I guess an idea would be just to bring our own script - maybe it would be a little longer than 4 minutes
  2. Help anyone? I was looking at the ceremony location options for the ROR and noticed there is Beach or Gazebo. Does anyone know if the gazebo is on the beach? If its the one I think it is (that I've seen everyone's lovely photos of) then what is just the beach? Thanks in advance!
  3. SO lovely! Also, your information is extremely helpful!! I have a few questions.... 1 - what is seagrape 2 - where is the restaurant that you ate? My family is pretty picky eaters so I'm kinda worried about dinner.... 3- how did you figure out your flowers?? They are beautiful - green cymbidiums?? Thanks in advance!
  4. Hey! What you're doing sounds exactly what I'd like to do! I'm hoping to go in February of 2010. Beach Gazebo and poolside reception. We aren't big dancers so don't really want to go to the disco or anything like that after. Do you know if they let you play your own music at the poolside reception? Something about no music with dinner doesn't seem right to me. Thanks!
  5. Hi Everyone I'm pretty sure dendrobium orchids as well as phaelenopsis orchids are native to Jamaica. there are actually over 200 different types of orchids native to Jamaica. Orchids are a beautiful tropical flower that will really hold their own throughout the whole day - even out of water. Good Luck!!
  6. Hi KarenLynn First, beautiful wedding photos- I bet you love looking at them! I'm trying to figure out what resort in Jamaica to book my wedding at and it seems as though the ROR is the front runner. I just was wondering if you could let me know how you found the planning process to be. I was under the impression that the hotel supplied you with flowers but I read in your earlier post that you got your flowers from Tia Flora. Any reason in particular? Also, how did it work with your officiant? Did you get to communicate with them before your wedding? Did you have any say in how the ceremony went? Also, I have seen a few different photos of the beach gazebo - so pretty. But they all are somewhat different - chairs, flowers etc. Is this customization up to the couple? Does the Riu coordinator execute this? I was originally looking to work with a wedding planner on the island but if the Riu will 'customize' the wedding then I will just work with them. My main concern is the officiant... Thanks for you help in advance!
  7. Hey I'm pretty sure its an additional cost per person (somewhere between $50 & $100 USD) I'm not positive but if you call RIU (the 1.800 #) ask for the phone number for weddings they will give it to you. Another easy way is email [email protected] and ask them they should be able to let you know. ROR is the only RIU in Jamaica that you can do this at! Good Luck!

When I started planning, I thought the sequence of events would be this: Find out package prices for resorts, narrow down list of resorts, visit resorts, choose resort, book your group, THEN book your wedding date with the resort. I'm just confused because I see that many of you have booked your wedding date with the resort, and I don't think the package prices for spring 2010 have been released yet? Because the price that my guests have to pay will play a MAJOR part in what resort I eventually book, I'm just wondering what everyone else is doing? Are you booking the wedding, then just crossing your fingers and hoping rates don't sky-rocket by the time the package prices are released? As I've said, I'm new to this, quite confused, and hope that you guys can give me some insight! Thanks and happy planning! :0) PS - Why am I listed as "Lurker" when I post on here? I did sign up to the site!!!! Hi Taratoons I completely understand your confusion. From other information I've received your best bet is to either book your vacation with a travel agent as a package deal or to book a night at your hotel of choice. The RIU chain seems to bee quite desirable given that you can purchase any number of nights (although flight schedules will play a part in that of course). Personally, I'm going for the RIU palace in Punta Cana but the RIU chain globally is quite good. With RIU you can look on their site to see what average nightly rates are and then look at various airlines to see average flight costs so you can come up with an approximate costs for stays at different hotels. You should also be able to go to a travel agent and tell them a budget per person and they should be able to suggest hotels for you. Depending on where you go you should be able to get a good enough price. Also, I just noticed you're in Ottawa - as am I. A good place to go may be Handa Travel in Billings Bridge Plaza - or sometimes even Sears travel can be pretty good oddly enough. Anyhow, I'm also an Ottawa Event Planner/Designer so if you want any good resources just let me know! I'm designing my own invitations (but very different from your average invitation) but if you want any ideas for something that is destination I'm here to help! Best of luck and let me know how your progress goes. Marcie.
  10. Hi msemi305 (Marcie?) Its great that you were able to book your dates! I've had the same thing happen before when I went to book a trip many years back and didn't have flexible dates. I am actually getting married at RIU Palace in Punta Cana and am just waiting for the rates to become available in May/June. I spoke with a representative from RIU on the phone a couple weekends ago and he mentioned that the rates from 2009 for the same months probably won't increase too much for 2010 dates - especially with the economic downfall. I was looking at different flights because not all our guests will come for an entire week and Air Canada (if you're in Edmonton) seems to have a lot of flights scheduled but supposedly there is a possibility they will go bankrupt. Anyhow, I'm actually an event planner/designer in Ottawa so am doing lots of unique things for my own wedding. If you need any ideas or good resources let me know, I'd be happy to help! Marcie.
  11. Thanks for all the information - we are hoping to book our wedding there for Feb or March of 2010 - our dates are flexible but rates and availability are not released until May of this year. Does anyone know if its better to book with Riu directly or through a travel agent? Thanks!
  12. Hello, I'm getting married in DR in 2010 (Feb or March) at Riu Palace. Just waiting on pricing and availability which comes out in May. Thanks!
