Newbie - Help me with a venue/location
Destination Scout replied to Chill Bride's topic in Newbies!!
I was married in Tulum and now coordinate weddings from Akumal to Tulum. The only place large enough to host 50 guests on the beach is Mil Amores. It's very private since it's right next to the preserve. It is great since it is two mansions that have been converted into a hotel. They have a total of 22 rooms, some of them are multi-bedrooms suites. You could rent one or both of the houses out depending on how many guests you have. You would need to get a permit to have an all night party in Tulum, but it is possible. You might also look into Anguila, just off of St. Maarten. They have absolutely stunning beaches and loads of private homes. -

Who knew something so little could hurt so much?
Destination Scout replied to ~Stephanie~'s topic in Just venting or funnies
Aww Steph. It would break my heart if I heard my children call someone else mom. I'm so sorry. I would be especially hurt if they called her that and I knew she didn't treat them well. I'm glad your ex was understanding and I hope the problem cures itself. Hugs! -

And yes, comparing notes would be great! Just curious if you know much about Blue Tulum weddings? I've been reading some very mixed reviews lately. I know they've had new owners/management since Mid-April or so and I've been reading negative reviews about problems with management keeping track of reservations and one bride who was promised certain things by management only to have to deal with headaches on her wedding day b/c of miscommunication among the staff. It looks like a gorgeous place for a wedding, but if management is still working out the kinks, I'm wondering if I should even consider Blue Tulum at all? Is anyone planning a Blue Tulum wedding in the near future or was anyone recently married there - since May '09? Thanks everyone! I haven't seen anything on Blue Tulum weddings lately. I ended up not having my reception there because I didn't want one of their packages and found that I couldn't customize anything. Now that I'm coordinating other weddings there I have great group rates and I just do the coordinating myself. There are a ton of options including their event menu, which is $50-$100/person or you can use the restaurant menu for $10/person or you can bring in a caterer.

We were married in Tulum this February. Everyone loved it. I am now in the process of planning an anniversary for the entire party again. The MIL definitely complained during the whole planning process, up until the point that I unlocked her hotel room door and she stepped inside. From that point, she still never stopped talking, but at least she was happy. She had been to Cancun a few times and stayed in the Mayan Riviera Palace and swore that it was the place ever. She'd been to Tulum and was mystified as to why we would get married in such a small town where there weren't even any resorts. Now she swears she will never go back to Cancun. We just found a place to accomodate all her needs and got her involved in other parts of the planning process (we put her in charge of th AHR). Once she had a job she became manageable. What can you say to convince that the Tulum is better than something at home? You could send them my slideshow. That seems to convince a lot of people. Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd – Dreamtime Images Let me know if you need any help. I'm in Tulum frequently and would be happy to answer any questions. In fact, I'm running a scouting trip for a couple other couples Nov. 11-17. You're welcome to join us if you would like.

My dress on me!

It's a great cut for your figure. You look amazing! -
I am, but I'd be happy to answer questions about Tulum regardless of whether you hire me. It's hard to get real information about Tulum, so I'd be happy to just answer any questions or explore options with you. Tulum is kind of a funky place since it is so remote and environmentally conscious. It's nice to be able to just chat. I have a page dedicated to Tulum on my website. It doesn't list all of the hotel options, but it does list a lot of vendor and tulum forums as well. The direct link to that is Destination Scout

Welcome! My wedding was in Tulum this last February. We absolutely loved it. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. You can also look through my wedding review. I am now coordinating multiple weddings in Tulum since I built so many contacts doing my own. I am running a group site visit Nov. 11-17. You are welcome to join us if you would like or just ask me to research some items for you.

I just had a thought for you two. I'd be happy to set up a site visit for you two. You guys could make it a girls trip and share expenses, if you would like. You seem to be after similar things. I could make sure we set up visits for make-up, cakes, etc while you were down there. Even if you don't utilize me, I firmly believe that a site visit is the most efficient way to kick this stuff out and it's always fun to go with another girl. It's a lot cheaper and men aren't always the most help on this stuff.

Welcome! I'm running a site visit down to Playa/Tulum Nov 11-15. I'll be spending at least a day in Playa. We'll be staying at La Reve and I've promised to go visit Bluecocoa as well. I'll also spend some time walking the beach looking for your palapa style restuarant on the beach. I'll send you anything I find. Are you looking for anything else?

Welcome the forum. I think the first place for you to start, is by defining your priorities. Do you have a price point? A specific scene in mind? What do you want you and your guest to experience? Look through some of the reviews and make a list of what you like, not just which resorts or hotels you like, but what you like about them. Let us know what you find! Good luck.

My Father may not make it to the wedding!!
Destination Scout replied to jennierin's topic in Just venting or funnies
I'm so excited for you. I'm sure that everything will work out for you now. Sending you hugs. -
I've walked the beach in Playa and I'm not really expecting a lot. The hotels are really close together, and I would be surprised to find a "private beach". I figured I would check it out on my way into Tulum, where I know I can find a more private location. However, I'd be happy to take pictures of Bluecacao and give you the low down on anything I find while I'm there in Nov.

Welcome - If you want great weather I would plan for Jan-April. Any ideas where in the RM?

Welcome Artese! A few girls here on the forum were just married in Akumal. You should read their wedding reviews. Their names are Jaclynda & Marie Sam. I would highly recommend doing a mayan ceremony, with Marie & Charlie as your shaman. I used them when I was married in Tulum this February. They exude love and everyone at every one of their weddings always says that "that was the most amazing ceremony ever!" even my photographer. I coordinate weddings in the area and am running a scouting trip down there Nov. 11-15. Let me know if you would like to join or just want me to look into anything for you. Congratulations - you've chosen a gorgeous location. Your renewal will be wonderful.

Mid-November 2009? Holy crap you are nearly a Mrs.! Congratulations! Where in Mexico?

How wonderful! Welcome to the site.

Hey Karen and Andy, Welcome to the forum - it's a great group of girls here. There are even 5 or 6 of us in AZ. There aren't a lot of people on the forum getting married in AZ but it is a very romantic state with a lot of venue choices. From Sedona and Oak Creek, to Lake Powell and the Grand Canyon. I live in Phoenix, two hours from Sedona. I also coordinate destination weddings. I'd be happy to help in any way possible, even if it's just going up to Sedona, taking pictures for you and giving you a candid opinion on location. Have fun and congratulations on your engagement.

Welcome Emily! I am a wedding coordinator specializing in boutique locations in the Riviera Maya. Unfortunately, at this point, I've rather worked myself out of active referrals on the forum. I've made planning a wedding so easy for my girls that they don't really do anything about it or check into the forum very often. However, I'm running a site visit down to the Tulum and Playa Nov. 11-15. Our first stop is at La Reve in Playa (rated #2 in boutique hotels on TripAdvisor) and to get hair trials completed by the infamous Doranna. Let me know if you would like to join in or if you want me to check something out for you.

Oh I'm so sorry. That is heartbreaking. You still have 3 weeks. I'll cross my fingers for you. He sounds like such a sweet guy. You are lucky to have him. -
Hi I'm New and SOOOOO Glad I found you guys

Welcome Carla! My son plays lacrosse. It's a very cool sport. I was married in Tulum, Mexico, about two hours south of Cancun. Our ceremony was in the preserve and ceremony was at a hotel called Mil Amores. It's basically two mansions converted into a hotel. I now coordinate weddings in Tulum because I specialize in boutique locales. Either Mil Amores or Blue Tulum might be to your liking.
