Flying with Wedding Dress
Destination Scout replied to pugmomjenn's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
Can you put your dress in the foldable suit bags in order to get it through security and then unfold it and lay it on the top of the carry-on bags when you get on the plane? -
We had a similar schedule and number of people. I was terrified that people would be bored out of their minds, but it worked out really well. It didn't hurt that my mother-in-law was on valuum and tequila the whole time. Ours was as follows: 5:00-6:00 cocktails with classical guitar ($150/night) 6:00-7:00 dinner with classical guitar 7:00-8:30 first dance, cocktails IPOD 8:30-9:30 salsa lessons ($180) 9:30-on IPOD dancing the party lasted until about 11 and everyone went home happy and everyone actually danced through the whole thing Things that kept the excitement up were: photographer set up photo booth if dancing got slow the photographer would put the camera on the ground and have people do handstands over it (the guys and kids got really into this) DH's parent's started breakdancing (what a hoot!) salsa instructors brough props Here is our slideshow. There are lots of pics of the reception. Dreamtime Images Blog Archive Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd

I was also married in Tulum a few months ago. I made two planning trips out there as well and stopped at pretty much every resort between Playa and Punta Allen. Let me know if you have any questions. Dreamtime Images Blog Archive Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd

Grooms attire
Destination Scout replied to pvbeachbride10's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
My husband was so excited about wearing a Tommy Bahama silk shirt for the wedding that he ran out and bought one before he bought me ring! The problem was that Tommy Bahama doesn't have a white white, they only have a natural white, which meant that I had to match everything to his shirt. Luckily I was having my dress made anyways, so I bought the dress fabric and fabric for his pants to match. Here are our pictures to give you an idea. Hidden World Cenotes
Destination Scout replied to Jen_S's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Wedding Vendors
We used Nathan Welton at DREAMTIME IMAGES WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY - Colorado, California and destination wedding photographers serving Denver, Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek, Estes Park, Boulder, Santa Barbara, Steamboat Springs, Colorado Springs, San Luis Obispo, Cambria, Phoenix, B He is great and a lot of fun to have around. He really tries to work with you on price. He even has a very good associate package if you need it. However, we bought his biggest package, which meant that he came out for as long as we wanted him (4 days), took pictures the entire time and we got all the digital images. He really is amazing. -
Congrats! There is a lot to do in the Tulum/Playa area. When we went with our guests we had too much to do. Most guests got to Tulum and decided that all they wanted to do was sit on the beach Hidden Worlds - zipline, snorkel in cenotes, skycycle several cenotes that you can snorkel in for an afternoon snorkel in Akumal/Soliman Bay kayak or hike in Si'an Kaan scuba dive salsa lessons and dancing at La Zebra on Sunday nights catamaran rides out of Akumal tour Tulum ruins

Hi Lisa, What kind of place are you looking for?
-
Hi Tia, You are able to shoot at the ruins, you just need special permission. You can e-mail [email protected] or fax 01 983 83 72411 I suggest using the fax number. Also, you can use the cenotes as mentioned above. We used Hidden Worlds, but Labna Ha is also beautiful. The beaches are beautiful and secluded towards the end of the hotel zone in Tulum. You can park at Mil Amores and walk into the preserve if you would like.

Hidden World Cenotes
Destination Scout replied to Jen_S's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Wedding Vendors
I used Hidden Worlds for our cenote photo shoot. Dreamtime Images Blog Archive Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd I worked with Gonzo. He let us in for $10/person and they shut down the cenote for us since it was early on a Sunday morning. Granted, we had just bought 16 $70/person packages the day before, but they were really good to us and the photos came out great. Drop me a line if you have any questions. -
I agree with Jacilynda. We invited 100 people to the DW knowing that most would not be able to come, and would only make it to the AHR. In the end we had a small party of 20 and a beautiful wedding under $3K that included, dinner, dancing, salsa lessons, and three days of bar tab, excluding our photographer, who was $5K but he was worth every dime. We didn't go with a resort because I couldn't commit to the 10 room minimum and I wasn't willing to ask my guests to pay $200-$500/night. Our ATR will be very simple, BBQ and Ipod in my mother-in-laws beautiful home.

Beach Wedding Locations Recommendations?
Destination Scout replied to TnA2009's topic in Southern California Weddings
Have you thought about the beaches in San Luis Obispo? Pismo Beach is one of my favorites. -
It sounds like you are on the right track. The only other thing you might want to consider is an area with rental homes vs. all inclusives. This would please both your anti-touristy and well traveled guests. Places that come to mind are Soliman Bay an hour south of Cancun. All the rental homes are next door to each other and include common areas. May include private cabanas so people get a private house and kitchen but can walk next door to visit. All the convenience and privacy of a hotel, but more peaceful and intimate. I'm sure you can find similar areas in any of your locations.

Congratulations! This is an interesting string. Granted - it was on a Mexico forum, but I thought you might be interested. What would you do? - tulum.info forum

Congratulations! What are your priorties? Travel costs for your guests? Travel time? Do you want rainforest? Beach? Palm trees? What type of activities? All inclusive or boutique? It becomes easier to narrow down the choices once you list out your priorities.

Since I was in Mexico when Cancun was in the headlines, I had completely missed the news reports everyone is speaking about. So I spent a few minutes researching what is going on. Here is the travel warning published by the Department of State. Note that they warn against travel along the borders, especially along the Guatemala border. You will be no where near this. MIG: Mexico Travel Alert Here is a link to the Tulum board (also a great place to learn anything about Tulum) addressing the recent article. I agree with with Howie, that a stronger police and military presence is a good thing. Just think of it in terms of the US. If a US official were murdered we would have a higher police force, actually making the area safer. Goings on in Cancun... - tulum.info forum I noticed that the referenced article is no longer published. I found one published the same day. It looks like the murder in Cancun was a political assassination and not applicable to tourism (in my opinion). http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/side/6254358.html

Hi Shabado, I know exactly what you're going through. I just had my wedding in Tulum last week. I interviewed 7 coordinators, ended up hiring and then firing one and ended up just doing it all myself. The varying travel time is also a challenge. By the time I finished though, I had it all figured out - a little too late of course. Anyhow, I ended up at Mil Amores in Tulum. MIL AMORES TULUM It's two mansions that have been renovated into a hotel. The staff and management is super accomodating and will probably allow you to put a temporary hold on the entire hotel for 15 days and then your guests can finalize their own room. Here are pics from my wedding. As you can see, it's an amazing venue. Let me know if you have any other questions. Dreamtime Images Blog Archive Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd
