  1. Where are you sending it and is it over $1,000? If it is in the US you should definitely send it certified mail. If it is out of the country and under $2,500 you may be able to make a direct payment into their account. I know that I am able to do that with my Wells Fargo personal account. They charge $0-$1.50 per transaction. If the amount is larger than that I would wire the amount.
  2. In Tulum there are many questions that you probably don't need to worry about: Do you have enough electricity to run a DJ booth & lighting (20 amps)? If not, will you provide a generator and set up? May I use a caterer of my choice? Are there additional charges to do so? Do you have european plan pricing as well as all inclusive? Do you have someone at the resort available to steam wedding clothes? What is the server to guest ratio? How late can your event run? Is it possible to pay an extra fee for a longer reception? Do they have decorations that you can rent vs their standard free decorations? I recently learned that an all-inclusive resort was charging an additional event fee for dinner, when I asked why I was told that it was because they had a special event menu. I also learned that if I wanted to use their regular menu I didn't have to pay the special event fee. If you have a small group or group that will not likely stay the minimum number of days for your wedding package ask about group rates instead of wedding packages. Of course you'll want to see pictures of past events, locations, and transportation options. How will your plans change if the weather doesn't cooperate? Outside vendor fees? I think there is a broad range of questions you can ask. I think it's easier to just go knowing what you want and making sure they can provide it. Always ask for samples or photos. If anyone would like to join us in Tulum just let me know.
  3. A nice picture frame. You may be able to work something out with your photographer and coordinator to have pictures of them printed and sitting by their bedside the evening of the reception. You could also buy them a nice bottle of alchohol.

I am so glad each one came with us and they all enjoyed the experience. Joann - we had our TTD at Hidden Worlds. We spoke to Gonzo after our group excursion and he made sure we had transportation down to the cenote and the guys who usually do the ziplining into the cave pretty much told everyone they couldn't go down (oops!) We had to pay $10/person and there were four of us. I think you usually have to pay twice that amount but we got a discount because of our group excursion.
  5. August is rough in Mexico. Even if you don't get rain, the weather will most likely be humid and uncomfortable. Tulum is on the other coast and has lots of little boutique hotels. The beach is much nicer than in Sayulita. The two larger hotels are Mil Amores and Blue Tulum. Mil Amores has 24 rooms. Blue Tulum has 72 rooms, but is also the only place in town with air conditioning.
  6. Congratulations! I was married in Tulum, Mexico. It's a great little town in the Riviera Maya that has all sorts of small boutique hotels.
  7. They have two zip lines and they probably start at 30 ft and then end on the ground.
  8. Our party went to Hidden Worlds. They have ziplines throughout the park, many go into cenotes. There are two snorkeling tours and a skycycle. Everyone had a hoot. Your wedding is in July, you might wan to look into the whale shark diving off of Holbox. This is a beautiful phenomenon that anyone interested in diving will enjoy. I would highly recommend exploring the ruins of Coba on bicycle. This is a huge property and you can spend the entire day riding around the jungle and climbing on ruins. However, it is inland and will be very warm and humid in July, so be prepared. There is also a lake outside Coba, but I'm not sure how accessible it is or if you can rent kayaks or something that would be a fun way to cool off.
  9. I also vote for Spain or Italy. One of my girlfriend's is a huge fan of Spain and has spent 3 weeks traveling the countryside. It is absolutely gorgeous country, and Europe is so close for you.
  10. Heather, I love your signature. It's stunning.
  11. Welcome! You will absolutely love Tulum. We were just married there in Feb and all of my guests are asking me to coordinate a return trip.
  12. My friend, Julieta, is a well established wedding coordinator in Cancun. She is very responsive, speaks great english, available on Skype and is very dependable. [email protected]
  13. There are three local girls. Nora and Lili work together. Jackie will probably set you up with them. I have pictures of their work I'd be happy to send to you if you PM me your e-mail address (it's just easier for me to forward you her e-mail). There is also a new salon called Fashion Look Salon and Spa. The salon looks really nice and people have written great things about it, but I haven't seen any of their work yet. Here's a little write up Tulum Living: Fashion Look Spa - estetica & spa I hope to stop by on my next trip, which is also in November.
  14. Are you planning a legal or symbolic ceremony? The reason I ask is because Sunday is difficult because most countries require a legal officiant to perform the ceremony, which is why you are having a problem. Your task becomes a lot easier if you are willing to perform your legal work at home and have a symbolic ceremony abroad.
  15. It depends on how far away your speaker is to your guests. Our guests were gathered around us in a circle and we didn't have any need. However, I can see it being helpful under a traditional setting.
  16. We flew in to Mexico a week before our wedding and stayed after the following week. The kids flew down with us and then went home the day after the wedding with one of our guests. We hired a nanny to stay with the boys while we were on our honeymoon the week after. It was great to have them with us. We spent a few days traveling around the country visiting ruins, staying in little hotels and teaching them that not everyone gets to live like us.
  17. Very very cool. I saw all the signs to Rio Secreto and never got down there. Now I have to go! Thank you for posting your pics. They are amazing!
  18. I just saw reviews of a white and beige wedding http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t48435 Also, someone mentioned that there were only a few shots of our ceremony. Here is the full set. FYI: We got a ton of pics, so don't feel like you have to look at them all. Wedding Photos - a set on Flickr
  19. Thank you. It really was a beautiful ceremony. Butterfly, have you shown her pictures of what you are going for? We got a lot of flack and questions when we first told everyone, but then we showed them the pictures and everyone completely bought in. Our photographer even stopped at a roadside stand and bought pants the day before the wedding so that he could be part of the fun.
  20. If you want to fly a vendor down, it's on them to pay for a guest to come with them.
  21. It sounds abolutely wonderful. I was so glad my sons were with us for our wedding. You will love it.
  22. Those are all very reasonable fears. You can ask the hotel to keep the cake inside until it is time to present it. If you are having an outdoor nighttime reception you should work with your photographer closely to make sure he has adequate lighting. Are you having it poolside, where there are lights, or under a cabana, that is also lit? If not, you may need to bring extra lighting. You can do something fun with colors if you would like. Regarding your dress, it sounds like you already have yours picked out, but if not, this should certainly be something you consider when you shop for one. I had mine made, because I wanted it to be weather appropriate. It was very comfortable, but I imagine something satin and with lots of bustles may get uncomfortable. Especially in the May humidity.
  23. My wedding photos are at Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd – Dreamtime Images My photographer had done another wedding that he's taken off his site, but you can e-mail him at [email protected] That wedding was our inspiration.
