What price is acceptable?
midnight24 replied to frannkie's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
one main thing to remember is people are going to complain no matter what. depending on the location i think $1000-1500 range is typical for an AI 4+* resort. anything more than that you will find guests really complaining. we choose not to do a group rate quote because they were asking for $500 more per person compared to if we went online and booked the trip individually. i didn't think that was fair to ask our guests to pay that much more money. it may mean a few less people might come to our wedding because they had to find their own travel arrangements, but i think spending a few minutes online booking yourself or calling a travel agent is worth it over spending that much more money so we could all fly together on the same trip. so far most of our guests have been happy we did it that way, they all found great deals and got to pick & choose which dates to travel and what city to fly out of. good luck! -
there's a few things you can do as well: -every morning when you wake up drink a glass of hot/warm lemon water with sea salt (regular salt will do at the resort), it acts as a gentle detox to remove toxins and keeps the bowels regular, wait at least 30 mins before eating anything else. it's best to get into this habit daily before the trip as well -stay hydrated in the hot sun, drink lots of water (maybe do 1 for 1 - one glass of water per glass of alcohol drink you have if you plan on drinking alot) -avoid processed flour & sugars as much as possible, they will bloat you the most -limit dairy consumption -eat lots of protein, veggies, fruit -you may benefit from taking probiotics and digestive enzymes if you don't get enough fiber in your diet you may want to bring some psyllium seed husks with you to take daily to get things moving, just make sure to drink tonnes of water, if you don't that will just make the bloating worst. if you plan on drinking alcohol here's a few tips on things to help the hangover, stomach issues: po chai pills - Amazon.com: Po Chai (Bao Ji Wan) Pills - Herbal Supplement (10 Vials Per Box) - 1 Box: Health & Personal Care -take one vial(don't chew) when you are drinking and before you go to bed. if you live in the Toronto area you can buy these at most herb shoppes in Chinatown for $3.50/box, there are 12 in a box nux vomica (colubrina) - homeopathic remedy -this is found in most health food stores and is under $10, take 4 pellets when drinking and 4 before bed i always bring extra supplements with me on vacation because i am more concerned about getting a cold than having stomach issues (and i have stomach problems) -bring extra vitamin C, B complex vitamins, oil of oregano any more questions...i'd be more than willing to offer up some tips (i'm a holistic nutritionist in case you were wondering my source of infomation)

Help me pick a wedding dress!
midnight24 replied to mslis007's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
i think both look good on you. my 2 cents is that the maggie - reese dress is so popular i'd be afraid another bride at the resort would be wearing it too. i considered it but then on here all i was reading was everyone talking about this dress. -
it's always something with MIL's, eh! i say get her to make the 'groom' cake...and then tell her someone else is getting you a cake as a gift. white lie if you have too. that or i seem to be using a lot of reverse psychology lately on family that i don't want to do things for our upcoming wedding. i say oh we'd much prefer if you just relax and enjoy the day, not having to stress out about making a cake, doing photography (whatever the issue is). that seems to work for most people...they get the hint.

oh wish i would of known about this place a couple weeks ago. i just ordered my flowers.

congrats! it's an exciting time...enjoy it! as for destination here's a few things to consider: -think about how much money you want to spend? -what time of year you plan to go? -for how many days? -do you want lots of family/friends to come along? -do you want to get married legally (check what needs to be done) -do you want a private beach ceremony or are you ok with other guests be around (ex. at a large resort) we choose our destination because we had been there 2x before, we really enjoyed and we thought it would be a beautiful place to get married read the reviews on here, ask lots of questions you will get more valuable info here than if you walk into a travel agency IMO

i have to laugh because last year on vacation my friend got stung by a sea urchin and i had to pee on her! haha my dreams so far have been about not fitting in my dress, forgetting my dress, losing my dress. i think i'm pre-occupied with this stupid dress!

this is just my opinion but i bought one of those ELAN dresses for myself and i hate it. i am not very big busted, nor am i overweight but i do not find that dress flattering on me at all. if anything i would use it for a beach cover up, but not to wear for a wedding. they are very thin material and if you have girls of all different sizes (like any sort of weight around the middle) i don't think they will photograph well. but like i said that is just my experience. what price point are you looking for? under $100 or less?

Not going all out with decor
midnight24 replied to Megan24's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
don't worry about it. we are not bringing anything extra down with us either for decors. the only thing we are doing is bringing silk flowers for the BM's bouquets and we are having peacock boutonierre's for the guys. we are bringing them back home for our AHR 3 weeks later to save money. we might hire the mexican band to play our wedding...but that is still yet to be decided as well. and depending on how many guests we might buy something local like maracas to use a wedding favours. we even decided not to have a private reception afterwards because there are so many great areas of the resort for us to go for FREE and celebrate. the scenery is one of the major reasons we choose a DW...and we wanted our photos on the beach. -
this has been my experience so far... we decided not to use a group rate quote for our guests because it was outrageously high compared to if you went online yourself and booked the trip (i'm talking like $500+ per person). we have a wedding website and requested online RSVP for guest to either our mexico wedding ceremony and our at home reception. we mailed out STD's to all of our guests 7 months in advance and with less than 3 to go...we have had 3 couples RSVP on the website. i know how many people have booked the trip so far, and others are still deciding. we are sending out formal invitations with an RSVP only to our AHR reception. hopefully we will get a better response the traditionally way. we are sending out the formal invites 8 weeks in advance as a reminder for guests who didn't book yet, and we have requested the RSVP for the AHR to be in one month before the reception. we are having it less than 3 weeks after we get back and i need to notify our vendors 14 days in advance of final numbers. good luck with what you decide to do. be prepared to have to contact people personally. if you don't have their email or phone number try to get it beforehand so you aren't left closer to the date trying to get a hold of the one's who didn't reply. also...if you are mailing out STD/invites overseas check in with guests that they received it, or have a family member do so. i know some of our postcard STD did not make it at least 5 of the guests. lost in the mail somewhere.
