$1400 for our wedding photos, rip off?
jk1101 replied to Just Plain Chad's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
first of all - Carly, how freaking cute is your dog?!!!! I am paying more for photography than anything else in my wedding. A great photographer is worth it...to me anyway. You guys are right - the behind the scenes work is just as important as the actual taking of the pictures...it's a lot more than pointing and clicking. It's an art and you can't put a price on it. -
I just need to get this stuff out. I invited a few single people - women - that are SINGLE, like not dating anyone. my 2 friends are sharing a room. My one friend who is married - her husband can't come and she told me she's bringing her friend and said "obviously she won't be at the wedding". FI's single friend is bringing her aunt. i understand that it's cheaper for double occupancy. And i have actually met the aunt. but when I sent out a note last night to get a count on entrees, she responded "i will have shrimp and my aunt will have chicken" What? I didn't invite her with a guest...FI told me not to worry about it but seriously, it's not right... FI needs to give me a copy of his divorce decree to fax to the WC. Or fax it himself. He doesn't understand why they need to know he's been divorced. I don't know, but they already do, so just give me the papers or fax them over...mine are already over there...just do it please. I'm also starting to freak out about not having decorations for the tables at the reception....and I was trying to save money by not buying extra flowers...so now i'm trying to figure out a cheap but pretty thing to do, that can be easily flown to Jamaica, along with my OOT bags.... And i am spending extra money on a cocktail hour on the beach, because although the wedding is at an all inclusive resort, they have found a way to charge me for food and drinks for this wedding..... i need a massage!

Chad If you love the pictures and are happy, then it's a great deal. if you wanted more pictures or thought you were getting more, then it's not. I looked on your blog but didn't see your pictures. I am paying a LOT more than that, but will be getting a lot more - Pictures are very important to me and I did a ton of research on photographers in Jamaica before I chose one. -

Congratulations!!! -
i'm paying 135 extra for my bouquet and bout. GP was going to charge me over 200. So now my dilemma(s) i wasn't planning to bring any extra decorations for the reception - do you think it will look too plain with just the flowers from the ceremony? I'm going to have 1 U shaped table for everyone. My other dilemma is that my ceremony is at 4 and reception is at 6 - what do people do in between? When I asked Phyllicia at GP, it turns out they offer a Cocktail hour at 15/pp which includes drinks and hot and cold appetizers and can be done at the ceremony site or infinity bar. Attached menu - FI was like "are you kidding...it's an all inclusive resort - can't people just go hang at a bar till the reception" but I kind of like having a cocktail hour on the beach.... Any thoughts? GROUPS-Appetizer Menu 1[1].doc

I'm very interested to hear what happens. I tend to agree with JENISE that your really find out who your friends are and where people's priorities are when big life events happen. FI and I definitely learned that this year. His "so called" best friend couldn't come, one of my "best friends" disappeared from my life and my cousins, both of whose weddings i was in, couldn't come to our wedding, but managed to take multiple ski trips this year. My sister also isn't coming, even though she was offered a free trip. I hope your FI's friend just forgot.

My Dress is Finally Here!

So pretty! I can't wait to get my Maggie - fitting tomorrow! -
Just an FYI ladies - i just booked all my hair and makeup stuff online for Renova Spa - they wanted to charge my girlfriend $101 USD to do her hair...my mom's shampoo and blowout is only $60. since she is not my bridesmaid and just thought it would be fun to get it done, she has opted out of that - kind of pricey if you ask me.

I'm getting married in ONE MONTH!!!!
-
wow did I miss a LOT in such a short time!!! I missed you guys and so much has happened here, huh? So now I am SO HAPPY we are not having bachelor/bachelorette parties, although paintball and rollerskating would probably be awesome for me...it's sad when someone has to try and mess with your happiness Meghan, but I agree with the other girls that something is lacking in his life that he wanted to get a stripper for your FI...it sounds like you guys have a strong relationship so it isn't an issue, and sometimes you realize who your real friends are at times like these. Sad but true. it is really getting down to the final countdown - I'm still waiting for orders to come in of my (free) tshirts...ok i paid for some of them from vistaprint...they were 80% off...I actually woke up in a panic last night about it....i've been so calm till now, but with the new job and getting"final information" emails from the WC I think it's starting to set in for me. I have no list written down - it would probably be helpful to do that...I just have things running through my mind when I'm trying to sleep - FI went in the other room last night....I think we're sleeping separately till the wedding now because I'm tossing and turning so much. I have my first fitting on Thursday - hopefully it will be ok - I know it will have to be taken in. i'm really glad I got this job but starting a job right before the wedding might not have been the best idea! Anyone else panicking? Or is it just me? Tracy, did you make brochures or postcards from Vistaprint?

That is a very cute story! -
I received this email today and thought I'd share it. The date is while I'm IN Jamaica, so flying down on Air Jamaica and back on Caribbean Airlines? If any TAs have any insight as to what this means, if anything? MIAMI, FL – March 5, 2010 – A preliminary targeted transaction date of April 12, 2010 has been set by which the operations of Air Jamaica will begin the transition to Caribbean Airlines. This transaction date dovetails with the airline’s major schedule change that was previously announced. However, the transaction date could change as the details of the transition are finalized. Seamless Operations The following are important points to note as the changeover is made: The transition to Caribbean Airlines will be phased over a period of up to one year, in order to ensure that customers will continue to be provided with the best possible travel experience. Air Jamaica aircraft will continue to be utilized during the transition period. Current Air Jamaica pilots, flight crews and ground staff will operate the aircraft for the schedule already published. All customer services, including reservations, website and sales, will continue to operate in much the same way as today, for a period of time. “We have enjoyed a tremendous relationship with our loyal customers in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, as well as throughout the Diaspora, and we are pleased to advise that our company is also committed to continuing these relationships, doing everything possible to earn your loyalty and trust,†stated Bruce Nobles, Air Jamaica’s President and CEO. Schedule Advantages As of April 12, the airline offers a superior schedule between Jamaica and its core destinations – namely four daily flights from Fort Lauderdale, three daily flights from New York (JFK) and daily flights from Philadelphia, Baltimore and Toronto.

The dress is BCBG Max Azria - From the outlet store so I got a really good price. As for tanning...basically no sun is good sun and all sun whether indoor or outdoor causes skin damage and cancer. Sad but true. both of my parents have had skin cancer and FI works with the dermatologist. That being said, I love being tan and will still visit the beds a few times before we go, and will spend time in the sun on our trip...I wear sunblock when I'm outside, and you HAVE to on these islands or you will burn burn burn! I will not be a pale ghost in my pictures or be sunburnt and neither will FI. When I went to Dominican Republic a few years ago the day I got there there were these 2 poor girls who obviously didn't put any or at least enough sun block on and they were so burnt, I can't imagine that they enjoyed the next few days of their trip. I wore SPF 30 the whole time I was there (7 days) and got very dark. That is my lecture for the day.

How to keep stress free during the planning stages
jk1101 replied to Tennyt1's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
I think picking the resort was THE hardest thing to do. Once I did that and had my date booked i felt so much better. Then it's a matter of taking things step by step...having BDW has helped me so much - just having all the other DW brides to get ideas from and have something in common with...it's a great tool and support. Good luck! -
OOT Bags - Out of Control!
jk1101 replied to Girasole's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I'm the same way - love shopping for them and keep thinking of things that would be cute, not to mention my major VistaPrint addiction, but what has stopped me from buying anything else is realizing i'm going to need one entire suitcase just to get the stuff to Jamaica, and then put them all together once we get there. After I put my Hangover kits together and saw how much work just those took, I realized i needed to stop...I have everything I need for them and I'm done...
