  1. This site Dominican Republic Weather | dominicanrepublic-guide.info gives really good averages for temperatures, rainfall, etc. even down to the time of day ... tons of details and info on hurricane season.
  2. I had the same situation except that my "off the rack" dress had a footprint on the train (which I discovered after I got it home). I took it to the cleaners and had it back in 2 days ... are you sure they don't think they're cleaning and preserving it? When I brought my gown in that's immediately what they thought I wanted and I had to explain to the girl at the counter that the wedding wasn't for 6 weeks and I had yet to wear the dress. I don't know, my dress is pretty simple and not at all "puffy" so maybe that has something to do with it, but a month seems insane!
  3. We haven't planned out for the whole trip practically except for the actual wedding part. We're getting married at 4 pm and I'm having my hair done at 11 am ... other than that I have no idea. Since it's just us and we only have the photographer for an hour, I doubt we'll do much other than the wedding and photos afterward. Sweet and simple I hope!! ;-)
  4. That's so wonderful you're helping her!! Ask anything you can think of on this site and if the brides/vendors don't already know they'll help you research it - it's an amazing resource!
  5. Congratulations and welcome to the forum!!
  6. Does anyone have any packing tips for getting the bridal bouquet to your destination without getting damaged? Can you carry it on or does it have to go into luggage because of all the wires inside?
  7. Rosa - they're wonderful!!! I love the carousel shot. Looks like you both had a great time!
  8. Don't worry - we got engaged on Valentine's Day 2009 and are getting married next month. It'll be just under 5 months so I think you've got some time. :-)
  9. We had our legal day this past Tuesday. We went in the middle of the work day so we weren't wearing anything special. It was literally about the paperwork for us, so afterward we came home popped open the laptops and finished out the work d ay on the sofa. Real romantic I know, but like some of the other girls our DR wedding is the big day. No one knows about the courthouse wedding - we even had to borrow the judicial secretaries for witnesses! LOL!
  10. We registered for literally about 15 or so items via myregistry.com. It allows you to register for absolutely anything. We put a few things that could use replacing on there (tea kettle, towels, etc.), some items we still want and finished it up with a listing for gift cards to Home Depot to go toward a new lawn mower and stuff to do some remodelling. In the end, the ladies are right - including any registry info in your invite is inappropriate and asking for cash will likely put off quite a few people and you'll get lots of tacky picture frames of your guests like Sandra said. LOL!
  11. We're having a very traditional AHR, with hors d'ouevres, drinks, DJ, etc. We have the hall for 24 hours (midnight to midnight which isn't exactly handy for clean up so we're paying them to do that, and I can't say I'm terribly sorry about that situation), but I scheduled the reception for 4 hours, mostly to keep costs on food and drinks down to something manageable. :-)
  12. I think you should wait until you know it's "THE ONE" or you might end up not loving your dress or like petals said, buying a second one and trying to sell the first. I bought mine really quickly (only went to one store and bought it that day), but I definitely knew that it was the perfect dress for me. Good luck and don't feel pressured - you have lots of time and there are lots of dresses!!
  13. I'm wearing mine and my FI is wearing his wedding attire too. We're eloping so no one will have seen my dress at all and I think would be very disappointed if I didn't wear it. Tons of people have asked me that and were all giddy when I told them that I was wearing my dress. :-)
  14. Our AHR is two weeks after we get back and I wanted the RSVP deadline to hit before we leave which is 1 month prior to the reception. So ours went out about 10 weeks in advance (with the wedding announcement) giving them 6 weeks to decide whether or not to come. Of course, apparently no one seems to think you need to RSVP anymore as pretty much only our parents have done so! LOL!

It took 2 weeks for the rings to arrive (no engraving) and there was no confirmation from the store about when they would/did ship or any sort of email with a tracking number for the package (sent FedEx so there was a tracking #). When they arrived they looked fine, but the more I looked at them I began to notice that one of the bands is misshapen (sort of comes to a point at the bottom and isn't the same width all the way around). I was just going to ignore that, but when I took them both to the local jeweler today to find out how long it would take to have them put into a set with my e-ring, the jeweler discovered a crack in the metal of the OTHER ring. So, we're returning them both. Obviously, my experience was a very different one from Jacilynda's, but I thought I should let everyone know to be careful and make sure you have your rings inspected by a jeweler very quickly after you receive them. These are very thin bands so they have more tendency to crack, but it seems like they would do a final inspection for quality prior to shipping and they didn't. Hopefully we won't have any trouble getting a refund.
  18. We just got my FI's second ring in (the first one was too big so we had to get a different size) from Titanium-Jewelry.com. Here's a link to the one he got ZURNOV J.R. YATES Tungsten Carbide Ring. It's really great looking and high quality. He loves it and they were terrific on communication and shipping. We had two rings in under two weeks! Great site!
