Hey guys, just to update, we had to switch our desitination from Cancun to Maui, b/c along with not wanting to take 2 small children to Mexico with a swine flu outbreak, our travel agency canceled all their charter flights to Mexico for the month of May. Anyway, after emailing all the vendors to try to recoop some of the money, I got an email from Vanessa Jaimes (florist) that I thought was quite interesting so I thought I would share. So here it is: HOLA KIM I AM SO SORRY FOR DELAYED RESPONSE, WE´VE BEEN VERY BUSY WITH ALL THIS SITUATION. BUT SO FAR CANCUN IS A SAFE PLACE AND WE ARE SO UPSET ON HOW OUR GOVERNMENT MAKE SUCH A BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS. WE HAD OVER 100 DEADS LAST YEAR BEACUSE THE SWINE FLU AND NOBODY TELL ANYTHING. NOW THAT WE HAVE SELECTIONS IN 2 MORE MONTHS AND AFTER OUR ECONOMY IS GOING DOWN ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, THEY MAKE ALL THESE BAD RECOMMENDATIONS TO COME TO MEXICO. SO FAR WE JUST HAVE 3 WEDDINGS CANCELLED LAST WEEKEND, THIS WEEKEND WE HAVE 3 MORE AND THEY STILL COMING, BUT IF YOUR CLIENTS WANT TO STAY IN THE STATES, WE WILL UNDERSTAND. UNFORTUNATELY I DID SENT A DEPOSIT TO MY SUPPLIER LIKE A WEEK AGO, BUT WE JUST SENT $90 USD, SO I CAN GIVE YOU THE REST, PLEASE SEND ME YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AND I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN WE MAKE THE DEPOSIT. IF YOUR CLIENTS CHANGE THEIR MINDS ALSO LET ME KNOW RIGHT AWAY TO HOLD THIS DEPOSIT AND USE IT FOR YOUR WEDDING. SORRY FOR DELAYED RESPONSE BY THE WAY. KIND REGARDS So anyway, things look fine in Cancun & as we suspected, the media appears to have blown this whole thing out of proportion. Good luck to you ladies that were able to keep your weddings in Meixco. I was so excited to go back to Cancun, but Maui is just as exciting I suppose.

Jessica, You guys will have so much fun with Cancun Catamarans. I have talked extensively with the owner & he is so pleasant & helpful. The crew members that he has working for him are just a total blast. The day we spent aboard the Next Wave, was probably one of the most memoriable days of my life; it was sooooo much fun. Have a great time & let us know how it goes. -
Hey guys, I just wanted to give a quick update. I stated previously in this thread that Rebecca of allurementsbyrebecca.com was generous enough to create a mongram for me free of charge simply b/c I was a BDW member. The monogram turned out fantastic & I used it on serveral things. With the outbreak of the stupid swine flu, our charter to Mexico was canceled forcing us to change the destination of the wedding. I contacted Rebecca & she was once again very generous & offered to change the monogram to reflect the new destination (Maui.) If anyone is looking for a monogram, I would definately recommend that you contact Rebecca through her webiste; she's great at what she does & she has a very fast turnaround time.

Ok girls, so after much consideration, we have begun working on plan B. I made some calls to some resorts on Maui (I know, how do you go from Cancun to Maui, but I love them both for different reasons.) The good news is that they have the date open & their wedding packages are actually priced better than Mexico, the bad news is that unless they issue a ban on travel to Mexico, we will have to pay a $250 fee per person to change our reservation. So, were not sure, but 3 1/2 weeks out I feel like its better safe than sorry, so we came up with a plan B. We are bringing children, so if things don't perk up soon, Maui here we come!

I thought this website was helpful: Swine influenza and Severe Cases of Respiratory Illness in Mexico | CDC Travelers' Health It is from the CDC & has current updates on the situation. It still states that the "CDC has NOT recommended that people avoid travel to Mexico at this time. If you are planning to travel to Mexico, follow these recommendations to reduce your risk of infection and help you stay healty." You can read their recommendations on the website. Hope it helps give some of you some peace of mind (I think it helped to put me at ease just a bit to know that they are not recommending people to avoid travel to Mexico.)

I'm not sure, but I think that between the time that you pay your initial deposit & when you pay the remaining balance that you can add trip insurance. Like I said, I'm not sure b/c I didn't even consider trip insurance, b/c I said come hell or high water we're going. But to put people's lives at stake is a totally different scenario. So, in retrospect, I truly wish we had purchased trip insurance, b/c we would be going to plan b right about now!!

Prohibiting travel to Mexico b/c of the swine flu, is yet another thing to worry about!!! While I understand the need to possibly prohibit travel to Mexico, I truly hope it doesn't come to that. If they do prohibit Americans to travel to Mexico, I wonder what happens to all the money all the guests have invested in their travel (none of us purchased insurance, so does that mean we are SOL?) Everyone keep your fingers crossed that this situation greatly improves very quickly!!!

Ok, I'm breathing I'm glad to hear that someone has actually been to a hospital in Mexico. I just always imagined the worst as far as their hospitals. Like I said I just worry mostly about the two children (our 5 yr old son & my 2 month old nephew.) Hopefully within the next 30 days, the situation will have improved. Thanks for your advice, I feel just a bit more at ease about the situation (this site is just so great, especially in times like these.) Thanks again!!!!

I actually contacted a fellow BDW member who just recently started doing custom monograms along with several other things & she did an awesome monogram for me for FREE! Her website is Allurements by Rebecca. She does custom monograms for $3.50, although it may be worth emailing her to see if she is still offering the special for a free monogram for BDW members.

Yeah, I did read that it's already made it to NY, TX, CA & most recently KS, so I agree if it's already here, you run the risk of contracting the flu at home as well. However, the US has only 10 confirmed cases, while Mexico has 1000, so I'd venture to say you have a greater risk of contracting the flu in Mexico. I don't know, maybe it's just me being my normal, overly paranoid self (I think it runs in the family b/c my mom's freaking out as well.)

AJS, Good to know I'm not the only one who is freaking out over this new flu epedemic. We are going to Cancun in one month & we have just gotten everyone to settle down about all the violence & now this!! We are beginning to think it wasn't meant to be, but so many people will loose so much money, so we must trek on. I just worry the most about the children & elderly that will be traveling with us, as I don't think they have the immunities that a young adult has. If it's not one thing it''s another!! Hopefully they can contain it soon & I've read it's mostly in central Mexico (Mexico City), so hopefully we will be fine. Keep me updated on your thoughts and decisions, so I don't feel so alone in my freaking out

Would someone be willing to send me thier monogram/logo that they made in Word, so that I can manipulate it with the correct names. I would like a pic of something tropical (palm tree, etc) with names & date. I have been on Word all day trying to get the stupid colors right & the writing to line up. I would appreciate any help you guys can give. Also, how do people get there logo/momogram in a circle? I'm usually very computer literate, but don't do much work with clip art & that sort of thing so thanks for all your help!!

I'm new to vista & trying to make a logo to go on some things. I just wonder why you can only choose from the color combos that they give you during the last step. Is there a way to choose your own color combos? If not, is there another website where you can create a free logo with your own color combos?? Thanks in advance for your replies!!

Jess, My cousin is a bridesmaid & also in the military & so is her husband. She is not active, but in the reserves & there are not any restrictions on her going to Mexico, but her husband is in the active military (I forget which branch, does that make me a bad cousin:) & he is prohibited from going. I'm not sure if all areas of the military have the same rules & regs. Hope that helps!! I hope your friend & hubby can go

Hi girls, I just came across this great website while looking for supplies to make starfish placecards. They sell the starfish by themselves along with custom made tags, but they also carry pre-assembled starfish placecards (starfish, ribbon of choice & custom tag.) The prices are about $.90 for a custom tag & the pre-assembled placecards are about $2.50, which I didn't think was bad if you're not a DIY bride. Just thought it might be helpful; they have lots of great things (even if you're just looking for ideas.) Shore Chic Beach Theme Wedding Accessories - We sell Seashells for weddings by the shore
