TIPS & INFORMATION: ~ Using a glossy paper will make colours POP dramatically ~ I used 11X17 paper - landscape ~ I re-arranged all the pages so that it would fold up into a booklet during printing (THIS WAS THE HARDEST PART) ~ Booklet has 10 pages front and back printed in full colour. Therefore I had 20 colour pages. Pages are 11X17 and therefore a lot more expensive for printing. ~ One Booklet cost approximately $8 ~ You may want to check other sources to see if my information is still correct before using it yourself. ~ I notice these threads go on for years so notice the date I posted it and know that information can change a few years from now. I created a website because my booklet it too big to upload the template. The website is strictly for content because I couldn't do formatting and adding pictures, so the actual design of the booklet is up to you. I worked sooooo hard on this and I feel so good now that it's done. Thank you to everyone who has helped contribute ideas for me! Majestic Colonial Information Booklet

This is my favourite DIY project that I made for my wedding. I had travelled to the Majestic for my friends wedding, and then I had photos taken with my FI on a second visit to the hotel. That is where I got most of my information. I used content similar to ErinB http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t19955. I also saw images from someone named Daina & Dan. I looked all over but couldn’t find her thread. I fell in love immediately with her layout, colours, and raffia ribbon and I copied all of these to a T. I hope that Daina will acknowledge this to let people know it was her format completely. Here are my images with a description down below ***one more page***

They do a great job of setting up and decorating, honestly you do not need to bring anything extra. The one thing you should bring though is decorations for your cake (ie, flowers, ribbon, ect.). They provide you with a plain cake and you need to bring stuff to decorate it yourself. Thank you for your review. It's so true how they take care of everything. Alot of us North American Brides plan for so long without realizing how they do business in the Dominican. I feel bad for brides who want something specific and don't realize that the Dominican can't supply it (like your flowers). It makes us really upset when we can't get what we want, that's why I love that they make all the final arrangements when you arrive. No room for disappointments. I'm so happy that you weren't upset about the small details. I'm sure that really helped to make your day fantastic. I'm so happy you had a great time and enjoyed your wedding. (I'll have to check out that cave bar thingy you talked about!) Thanks again Jodie! -
BachataBride & Malisa you guys rock Documents should be no problem. Only takes at the most 10 business days, then you just fax them. Problem is my FI is Dominican and I finally found out his requirements, so I can apply Monday. I have to assign a project a day I think. After all my calculations, I should have about 13 days free to relax so I'm still good

Majestic Colonial ** WARNING **
khomac replied to TammyWright's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Their policy has been that way for at least 2 years now. My friend inquired about it in August '07 -
I confess that I have been lazy with the wedding plans. I have 37 days till I leave. EVENTS - 2 wedding showers, 5 Passion Parties to present at, a 2 day trade show, a bachelorette, a going away party WEDDING PLANNING - send away for the translation & notarization of documents, plus my FI is dominican and I have to fill out 40 pages of sponsorship forms, hem my dress, get his ring, organize my playlist for the reception, complete my DIY bouquet, flowergirl pail, ringbearer pillow, get a viel and tiara, make corsages/bouteniers, put together a slideshow of FI family & country Seriously? Is this even possible in 37 days?!?!

Most Economical Wedding in Punta Cana?
khomac replied to Soon2bMrsC's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
My friend paid $1750 for the wedding package at the Majestic Colonial, plus $800 for the resort photographer, $65 for her hair, and $135 for two flower bouquets (bride & grooms flowers are not included in the package). Plus her costs of travel This did not include a private reception. We had a semi private dinner at the steakhouse (didn't even notice anyone else around), and then we went over to the Garden Bar to dance to the jazz music until 11. At 11pm we headed over to the disco. Her's was a small wedding with 12 people. -
I say try anything. I thought I wanted a light flowy dress. I tried on every dress in the store in that style, and "liked" one. I went back a second time and said "I'll try whatever". Turns out I "LOVE" A-lines with a train. Who da thunk it! Try several stores. Let them bring you something slightly different. How many different days have you tried shopping? I also suggest only bringing 1-2 people. Any more than that, and it's all about their opinion, not yours. Go with YOUR heart, no one elses. Good luck! We'll all be waiting to know if you find the perfect one within your price range!

I know straight chlorine (like chlorine bleach) can damage 10K gold, but if it's diluted with water (pools, etc), that can't damage it can it? Maybe in the long run with repeated uses of pool over years the metal can break away? What was your experience? I'm curious now

Diamonds are the hardest stone period. They go through a process called caustic fusion. Technicians use Hydrocloric acid, and caustic soda beads in a furnace that reaches 320C. This process burns away everything except a few types of minerals including the diamond. Diamonds NEVER get harmed. Guys, imagine how many people visit this resort on a dialy basis, yearly basis, and how many stories do you hear of people being robbed? How many brides visit these resorts? People wouldn't continue if they didn't feel safe. I had never been out of Canada or the US before and I even knew better to bring a suitcase lock and put all my valuables in there. The Dominican police are corrupt. Even locals admit that and fear being falsely arrested. Keep in mind communication problems. My fiance is dominican and even though I speak slow, and clear, he still won't understand what I'm saying. There is no way she was refused to make a call. All she had to do was go back to her room and use the phone there. I feel terrible that her ring was stolen regardless of anything else that happened or what was said. I just don't want anyone to be afraid to go. The Dominican survives on tourism. I honestly don't believe everything the bride posted.

Where did all you ladies purchase your wedding night lingerie from? Plus sizes please like 18+
-
I got my Spanx at Lane Bryant definately has plus sizes. Heather, I'm 250lbs and that is a size "E". They had sizes C-E for sure (C being like 150 I think). Also when I was shopping at Davids Bridal, they sell a type of Spanx. The girl said it is the same manufacturer, but theirs sells for $15 (in Duluth, MN) whereas Lane sold them for $35. I purchased Spanx Higher Power High-Waisted Mid-Thigh Shaper 032 - Spanx Hosiery - which sits under the breasts, and half way down the thigh. I purchased these ones because they cover the thigh to prevent heat rashes on my thighs when they rub in the heat

Any "chunky chicks" (lol - I love that) have experiences with trying on dresses made of light, flowy fabrics, versus something more structured and which looked better on? My original thought is that something flowy would be good at hiding my tummy, but for all I know it could just make me look pregnant!! I was going to buy a light flowy dress too. I found one that was "fine". I had tried on a light one here at home and it was $900!!! And there was no way I wanted to spend that much on a dress so I was going to settle for the one that was "fine". Well, I went back and said "I'm willing to try anything". The first one they brought was an A-line full of crinolyn, layers and layers, and . . . IT LOOKED AMAZING!!! And for the same price and the "fine" one! I say try anything and don't limit yourself. Go in with an open mind. SPANX - LOVE THEM! Considering getting a pair for everyday of the week to wear under my regular clothes. I can now wear a tight fitting top and not have 2 bellies!!

No planning until arrival?
khomac replied to KPEG's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
My friend is such a "worry wart". But when it came to a wedding at the Majestic, she booked her date, booked a flight and that was it!! The day after she arrived, there was note under her door to meet with the wedding co-ordinator where they chose locations, food, flowers, cake, hair appointments, etc. The caribbean is a beautiful setting anyway, decorations aren't needed. DW are supposed to be simple and stress-free. It's truly about the marriage and not putting on a "big show" for your friends/family. Once you get to the resort, you may end up changing your mind anyway once you see all the beautiful options. -
So many posts I want to comment on! jerseykitten LMAO!! Totally hilarious!! Meg, I wonder if she is saying this because she THINKS you are sad about it? You know? Like trying to be on your side or something? Tam - Communicate!!! You should never have to feel like you're walking on eggshells!! Be polite when you talk and never sound like you are attacking him or someone. Talk to him just as you would your closest girlfriend! Nam - LMAO here too. I feel sorry for you lol KLC77 - YAY!! what a relief!

My FI is Dominican. He said that there isn't really any traditions (broom jumping, smashing glass). I mentioned the coin thing and he said that it's a catholic thing. I asked about the sand ceremony, he said that is normal. He also asked me something about the Godparents. He said that they normally only have 1 groomsman, and 1 MOH, plus the flower girl and ring boy. Looking at that website that was provided earlier Dominican Republic Marriage, Funeral, New Years and Last Names Traditions it sounds like this is exactly what he was talking about.
