  1. My friend got married and her nephew was the ring boy. He is a well behaved kid, but like most 3 year olds, he got bored. When the JP was doing his thing, the little boy yelled out, "Papa! Come here!" as he stood beside the bride. Papa got up, the boy grabbed his hand, and made him walk to smell the flowers that were off to the side of the guests. Papa missed 5 minutes of his daughters wedding lol but the photog got a great shot of the grandfather and grandson smelling the flowers. The little boy walked back to his spot beside the bride. By this time, the bride & groom had exchanged roses. Again during one of the JP's speeches, the little boy asked the bride (his aunt) if he could have the flower. He smelled it and looked at it for awhile, then started swinging it around, and eventually the head bent over lol. It's just pure innocence of a 3 year old little boy. He wasn't loud or talkative, but it sure made for some GREAT photo's and memories. Good Luck and instead of feeling embarrassed, try feeling proud
  2. you can jump off the plane and get married that second if you want. Mexico has a mandatory 3 day period but not DR. You can arrive on a Saturday and get married on the Tuesday if you want. My ideal time frame would be arrive, meet with co-ordinator next day, wedding day after that.
  3. Oh no Jackobelle! I think alot of us know what you're going through! Like Lisa says, relax. I'm 260lbs and I encourage you to look at my TTD album. Yes, in some cases maybe I do look that big and of course, not all of them made it to the album and I'm angry that I completely forgot to put on makeup (ugh!), BUT, they are still beautiful. I'm almost positive that when it comes time for it, you will feel awesome. You won't have such negative thoughts running through your head. For me, I plan on going to PC again, and when I'm comfortable and feel better, I will do a TTD session again so I can get those "killer" shots. Kelly Homac's Photos - TTD (trash the dress) | Facebook let me know if you can't view the album
  4. Well, I'm far from sexy! When my photog asked me for a sexy look, I gave it my best. When I got the pics back I almost peed my pants! Let's just say after that look I gave him, he never asked again for a sexy pose!! This was the best I could do

  6. One thing I wish I would have done is to make a table or display or something for those who couldn't come to the wedding, people like my grandmother, best friends, cousins, etc. I did have a photo charm on my bouquet for my grandmother who passed away, but my other grandma is just as important and wasn't there either. I should have done something to include her and my grandfathers
  7. I just came across a site for chair sashes and table runners. What I would have done differently is purchased these plus coloured chinese lanterns to add a splash of colour to our plain white chairs, tables, and which linen centerpieces. I never even considered them because I thought it would be to expensive in the end, but its NOT! Don't rule anything out without first researching it. Looking at our pictures, the tables looked plain and boring.
  8. I felt the same way before the wedding. I was disappointed in myself because you only have 1 wedding and 1 chance for those unforgettable pictures. I had a year to lose the weight and didn't. But after you put on that beautiful dress, with you're hair all up, your jewelery all sparkley, your MOH & mother helping you get ready, and walking down the aisle to see all of your family, & friends smiling at you, you forget about your weight. You look infront of you and you see your soon to be husband smiling at you, and maybe even shedding a tear. You kiss your father/mother as they give you away and hear them say you look beautiful and their proud of you. After all of this, if you still feel fat, disgusted, and disappointed, THEN YOU CALL ME COLLECT RIGHT AWAY AND I'LL HAVE A SERIOUS CHAT WITH YOU!!! This is who you are - PERIOD. Your husband chose you for a reason. Your friends and family love you. In the years to come, when you lose weight, and if the pictures still bother you, then I say that's a great time to go back to your destination and get some glam shots with an incredible photographer! The day of your wedding, you will feel amazing. Just like all our "skinny" friends no matter WHAT size you are. Accept the fact that this is you. Look in the mirror and say that you're still okay the way you are! When you are ready to lose weight, you will go after it and you'll fight hard! Obviously right now just isn't the time for you. But one day it will be and you'll get there.

I'm confused!! Thanks, Nicole Ya, you're right. That is the regular steakhouse menu. Weddings are a set menu Surf & Turf (Tenderloin & Grouper) with potato, veggies, etc I'm guessing the potato was in the tinfoil? Not too sure as I was sick during dinner and in my room If you don't want Surf & Turf you can have ONLY Chateaubriand (not Chateau and Grouper)
  11. I stayed in Higuey city (40 minutes SW of PC and inland). It was hot and within 3 days I had a heat rash under my arms. I bought Body Glide and the next 2 times in the city, I never had a problem

Reading a review on the Facebook group, it says that the terrace is no longer available? The terrace is the outside of the steakhouse so the bar is about 20 feet away. Remember, if you're not doing open bar, you only get the reception area for 2 hours. (if you can't get the terrace), I say get your guests to grab some drinks on your way to the reception and they'll be fine. You won't have to do many "drink runs" I'm sure if it's only 2 hours.
  13. I believe all resort photographers take nice pictures. They are not crazy spectacular, but they are simple, beautiful photo's. I think that you will be happy with them. For me, photo's were the main thing, and I spent more on the photo's than my entire wedding package. I think Hispaniola will put you in classic poses on the beach, and around the resort. They will not play too much with photoshop. I wouldn't worry You can contact my photographer. He may already be down there during your stay. You can do a TTD session with him a few days after your wedding. See my link below to his website. Congrats on the wedding!

That's the day after my birthday! They really don't provide much decorations. The only thing I would have liked to have brought was stuff for our beach reception. We basically only had tables and chairs. Nothing for centerpieces, not even a table runner, so it looked kinda bare. I wouldn't go crazy. Looking back, I would have brought table runners (to add a pop of colour to the tables), and even just a simple candle holder for a centerpiece. They do make pretty decorations using extra napkins or table cloths or something, so even if you had that with a coloured votive holder, that would be nice. Check the link again. I'll add the setup of our beach reception.

Who reads them so the bride and groom can "repeat after me"? 3 - If you reserve the terrace for dinner ($300), do you have to pay for an open bar, or can your guests just go to the nearest bar for a drink during dinner? 4 - Where can I find nice, inexpensive chair sashes and table runners? 5 - Is the cake cutting at dinner or at the reception? 6 - How much does the resort charge for the translation of documents? Thanks for the help! Happy planning:) 1 - not sure. They kept my CD that I made so that should be there! HA! 2 - Yes you can have traditional vows. You can either write them on paper and read it yourself, or you can get the co-ordinator to read it for you. (Maritee did for me anyway). 3 - You can rent any area and not get the open bar. Keep in mind, that you only get the section for 2 hours though (8-10) 4 - don't know 5 - you can do the cake whenever you want. Just let them know. 6 - The resort does not translate your documents. Which documents are you talking about? You need to have any documentation prepared before you get to the resort. Hope this helps?! congrats!
  16. If you view my pics, don't just look at the thumbnails. I've entered descriptions under most of the pics answering alot of the questions brides have. You can fit 80 at the Gazebo. Look at some of the pics, you'll see that there are chairs outside of the "roof" thingy. They are also a step lower so they may not be able to see and the sun will be on them. Buy fans if possible. You will be on a microphone so everyone will be able to hear.

So then I could book it for Tuesday but would not find out until June if they go back to Thursdays for a direct flight so my wedding would be on my last day there. I hope that makes more sense. Oh and Punta Cana may not even be the place they flight to direct from THunder Bay, a few years ago it was Cuba. So I am likely going to have to book through Toronto and hope for a great seat sale. We're pretty limited here with the next International airport an 8 hour drive from here to the west or 18 the other way. If you could see me I'm pulling out my hair. Westjet has offered direct flight to Punta Cana for 3 years now leaving on Saturdays, so smile! You'll be fine! I'd book your wedding as early on in the week as possible. Eliminates the chance of tan lines. Try for a Tuesday.
  18. I've copied all of these images from the Facebook group. I don't know who the brides are, or who the photographer is. Keep in mind that these set ups and details can change. Set-ups pictures by homackel - Photobucket Let me know if you can't view it. I will not email pics however. Sorry
  19. If Phil isn't available, his nephew is just as incredible and they work together in the studio editing.
  20. VBVB - Add the info that you're looking to share Phil, and add in his website. You're allowed to post it in your siggy and will get you more feedback. Also, I think you know, but use Facebook - Majestic Colonial Brides, and I'm almost certain you'll find another bride getting married the same time who wants to use them. Brendali - Kenny and Kiko have really improved over the last 2 years (and I think Phil gave them some ideas, as well as Photoshop training maybe?). Brides all have different wants for their wedding. Some don't consider photo's that important and therefore don't want to spend a fortune. For me, they were the most important (more so than the dress), so I spent money on Michael Steingard. If you're looking for beautiful, and simple photo's you'll like the resort photog's. Hope this helps a little?
  21. Awe! I remember when I used to be at the bottom of the Date List, then I slowly grew to the top, and now . . . I'm gone So sad! But so happy that I can help future brides in any way. To add to the Phil and Michael Steingard photog's, they are always in the Dominican. I think Phil traveled 9 times last year? Sometimes he's even there for like 3 weeks, so if you do like their work, then I'd definitely check out their prices just in case. Sometimes they can be very comparable to the cost of a resort photographer, but these pictures are like magazine shots.
  22. My guess is she misread something and is saying that May 2010 is full. I am almost 100% positive that May 2011 has not even been started yet. They never book more than a year in advance. I think you'll be fine. Although they speak and understand English, you still have to simplify things. Use very basic words. I don't even use ' when I send them emails. I say do not, instead of don't. Just make your email like your writing to a 8 year old. Don't use extra words that aren't needed. Good luck!
  23. oh Cougs, I TOTALLY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL! It's like one day you look in the mirror and say "What the hell happened to you?!!" Did that just last week.
