Evie & Latinhunny - thanks for the information on the wedding coordinator - I had hired someone and was worried that I missed out on the services from the El Convento. I finally signed up for my room block at El Convento! I was thinking of using a guitarist with a singer - but the violinist and piano player sound beautiful with the singer. If you have their contact details, I would love to get a quote for that - please pm if you don't mind. Since my reception will only be 20 people for dinner - I was just going to use my IPOD with a dinner music playlist. I knew planning a wedding was going to be hard work...just had no idea how hard! Thanks again to both of you for your advice!

These look great - I'm just starting my boarding pass invitations now!

I'm hiring my photographer for 4 hours the day of the wedding - I will just be having a small reception dinner so I didn't feel like full coverage for the reception was needed. The day before the wedding, we will also have a two hour shoot which will be some of our beach shots, etc.

I was thinking instead of doing an OOT bag (which I had never heard of until BDW!) - perhaps doing a dual picture frame with one side a picture of us and the other side a poem. I think this will cost the same as the OOT bag and it will be more useful...they can always toss the picture of us and the poem and re-use the frame!

I have a similar situation - we're having a formal reception and we're trying to keep the numbers down as well - I would be interested as well in the wording!! I was going to do the " & Family" for our immediate family. Hopefully, the rest get the meaning!

Evie - thank you so much for sharing your experience! My fiancee is Catholic and I'm not so I'm nervous about it. We're scheduled for our pre-cana in April and then hope to get all of our paperwork submitted so we can schedule the meeting ASAP. What kind of decorations are you doing in the church? I've seen some footage of the inside of the church on YouTube (yes YouTube!!) and it looks beautiful so I don't think it needs too much in decorations.

We finally put the deposit down on the reception at the El Convento and the photographer - I feel like I'm ready to get into full wedding planning mode!! I appreciate all the advice that I've received so far on this thread. I'm still working on the group rates for the hotels. Was anyone married in the Old San Juan Cathedral? I'm curious of how the interview with the priest goes?!

I vote for #1 as well! I'm about to get started on DIY invitations as well so I admire your creativity!

I was just checking out Vacation Rentals in Florida, California, Oregon, Hawaii & More - CyberRentals tonight for other alternatives to hotels as well...I don't think it will work in my circumstances - but there were many 1 and 2 BR places that would work out cheaper than hotels!

I appreciate the quick responses - it makes me feel much better as their Salon Martorell seems beautiful for a small gathering and the location is ideal for the group I expect to come. The coordinator said that the hotel needed a paint job and that it was overrated...perhaps she didn't have a good experience there? Everyone has different taste and I'm not expecting a place that's brand new! Evie - I received a price list from them - do they negotiate and are you using them as your hotel as well?

I have a few questions on the El Convento and I know a few of my fellow PR brides are getting married there. To me it's the perfect location since it's close to the church and the people attending will probably enjoy more the old town feel vs. the beach. The pictures on the website are beautiful. I talked to a wedding coordinator who was trying to talk us out of it and I'm not sure if it's because she doesn't have the relationships there? She was making it sound like it is run-down. Any advise would be appreciated. My party will be small - around 30 people and that Salon Matorell would have made a great place for a small reception. Thanks in advance!!
