  1. We stayed at the Akumal Beach Resort for my sister's wedding. We had about 40-50 people in our group, so with the bus to your group, you don't have to make all the stops at the resorts along the way. The extra stops is what adds time to the trip. Most people didn't find the trip long at all, but it definitely does take away a few hours of beach time that you could have had at a closer resort. If you do choose to stay at the Tulum location, make sure that your guests don't go get completely drunk the last night they're at the resort. The bus ride is pretty bumpy and speaking from personal experience, isn't fun when you're hung over. We had a few very sick people on the bus on the way back. Too much fun! Longest bus ride of my life! (on the way back.)
  2. Hey ladies, My fiance and I have this resort pegged as one of our fav choices for our DW January 2010. It looks great so far, except for one thing... We're emailing with Ana about booking the buffet or booking a specialty restaurant for the supper. Has anyone heard any rationalization why we would have to pay $20-$50 per person for a meal that they would be getting for free otherwise (with the all-inclusive package of course)? My sister got married at the Akumal Beach Resort January 2008. They told her as well that she needed to pay $30 per person to book a restaurant for their supper. She told them that we'd just grab a few tables in the buffet and go eat there instead. One week later they emailed her and told her they'd book her into the Mexican restaurant free of charge. We're hoping something like this happens for us. It doesn't make sense why they would charge you for one meal that you would be eating anyway, especially when you're bringing 50 people for one week into their resort. It's huge revenue for them! We'll see what happens with it, and I'll keep you posted. Tennille
  3. Are you DBs choosing shorter cut dresses so they don't drag in the sand? Or are you worrying about that? We're shopping for dresses in a couple weeks here and I'd like any feedback on what worked/didn't work! Thanks!

    Hello!

My name is Tennille. My fiance and I are getting married January 2010probably in Mexico (mayan riviera) or the Dominican (Punta Cana). We haven't decided on a place yet, but I'm hoping this will help! So far from what I've seen, this forum is a great resource! We've only been to one place in the Mayan Riviera so we don't have a lot of personal experience with destination weddings. Although our families have travelled a lot, it has turned out to make things more difficult because everyone is telling us where we should go. I've found it difficult finding accurate information that isn't completely bias on destination weddings. The resort websites and books just focus on their good points (good marketing )and tripadvisor seems to be incredibly negative. They're two different ends of the spectrum, both of which aren't very helpful! Tennille
