We chose The Royal Playa del Carmen for several reasons. We had our choices narrowed down to Aventura, Excellence RM, and El Dorado Royale. We wanted an adults-only place. I am picky on rooms so I was looking for posh rooms with hottubs. Most of these fit the bill. However, the Aventura does NOT have a beach, it has a lagoon. So that one was off the list. El Dorado suffers from beach errosion like many resorts and I really didn't want sandbags in the background of my wedding photos! The Royal has an excellent location. It has a sister property right next door in case we have guests with families or need a cheaper alternative. Also it is one block from 5th avenue in Playa del Carmen (famous for night time entertainment and shopping) so our guests will have many options without an expensive cab ride. I spend months reading reviews on Trip advisor and this resort ended up having everything I wanted! Good luck in your search and use trip advisor! It was a life savor in deciding!

Shannon, You do have time on your hands today! But thank you thank you because so do I and the more time I have to sit here and plan with no answers from my TA the more pissy I get! So I will plan on the package at the listed price and then do my upgrades/additions. IF and WHEN you do find out about the Dance floor, please please let me know! I will probably be expecting a small group as well (under 20) and I do not plan on using a DJ either (using that money for a better photographer!) so I want to know if I will still get the light up dance floor. (I really do want that! and at 50pp I would really hope we could!) Holy Cow, we have a lot of wedding days coming up!! I feel like mine is a million years away! I am surrounded by snow! I wish it was here now!

HELP! Ok, this question is for those further along in the planning process or who already had there wedding. Does anyone know if you can customize the wedding packages? For example if there are things in a package that I do not want can I take them out and get a lower price? Also, Angie at villa world said that 2010 pricing wasn't out yet for the packages, but if I make my reservation in 2009 shouldn't they honor the 2009 pricing? How is anyone suppose to plan otherwise? Trying to get my budget under control! I think I may lose my mind!

Kate, I will send you the emails of attachments that I have, I don't have pictures of cake options (which I am hoping to get from someone as well) but I have other stuff. I have only been in contact with Angie too, through my TA, so thanks for that bit of info, I will make sure they communicate my date with the WC. Stephanie

Veronica- Yes Shay is such a Rockstar she emailed me several things! I would like to know if anyone has pictures and prices of anything other than the "standard" wedding cake? It's a little plain for me, cute, but would like something just a little more, even if it were 2 tier instead of one. Also, does the Royal provide any decoration options for the gazebo? Even at a charge do they have anything? I saw a picture on their website with white linens curtained back between the polls, it was pretty. More imporant question, my TA contacted villaworld (suppose to be the corporate office for The Royal) and talked with a gal named Angie here in the States, instead of the WC at the resort. She is suppose to be able to confirm my wedding date etc. Does this sound right? Anyone else go through The Royal like this? She did say however that I can have my outside vendor (photographer) for the $100 fee! So I am very excited about that. Told my TA to get it in writing!! lol. ~Stephanie

Shay- Thanks so much, I will send you a message! I am just so anxious to see everything! Anyone know what time the sun sets in June in Mexico? Trying to figure out when to do my ceremony. I know from reading on here that it is like 5:30 in November, but surely June would be much later? Also, I am going to do my own STD cards and was wondering if anyone could recomend any suggestions for websites or programs that would be cheap?! Thanks!

Hi Ladies and Groom! Wow! So I just spent the last 2 days reading all 68 pages of this thread and I must say, holy cow! That took forever! But now I really feel like I know each one of you, which is very cool! So I feel like I should share a little about me! I was referred to this site by Jentwo. I met Jen on trip advisor and she has just been the best thing! (shout out to Jen if you are still checking this site!)My fiance Michael and I are planning to get married at The Royal, we are just at the beginning stages of planning, (I'm sure you all remember how that felt!) where I am overly excited and can't possibly get enough information and dying to start planning! We are hoping for a June 2010 date but have not heard back from the WC yet. (No surrpise there). We are working with a travel agent and she is going to try and get some communication going. So many of my questions were answered from reading and from Jen but I am still shady on the No outside vendors policy. I have read how some of you gals got them to allow it with a $100 per person fee. I am willing to pay that but will they allow it still? If not it may be a deal breaker for me, photos are the most important thing for me! Also, I was planning to marry legal/civil ceremony but it sounds as if you can't do the sand ceremony or write your own vows with that? And after reading this site I don't know where to have my ceremony now! I was going to to the beach- no hesitation there- unitl I read on here about the privacy issues! No I am so confused! What's a girl to do! I am from Iowa, a beach wedding means getting your feet in the sand and out of the snow! I will stop rambling now, but I just wanted to introduce myself and hope that any brides left on this thread will help me out along the way too! By the way, if anyone has the attachments that Zulma sent, for cakes, flowers, ceremony site pictures or anything else I would be forever grateful if you could email them to me, I can PM whomever has that stuff with my email addy. I do have the "funever" photo stuff (which I hope I won't need). Ok, I just read back over that, sorry it was so darn long! Stephanie
