How long did you date before enagaged?
~Stephanie~ replied to Tamster808's topic in Share your Wedding & Engagement Stories!
FI and I met online and met in person two weeks after we started talking. Little over a month after meeting he proposed the first time- sort of unplanned, blurting it out (very cute). The Official proposal came at 1 year 10 months. And we will have been together 3 1/2 years when we get married. -
Final Fitting...Done!

These were all after concert meet and greets: Skid Row, Firehouse, Warrant, Slaughter, Quiet Riot, Winger, Collin Raye, Robert Schimmel (comedian), Mancow (radio personality), Hinder, 3 days grace, Seether, KISS, Cold Filtered If you can't tell I am an 80's hair band junkie. My coolest most star struck moment though was meeting my biggest hearthrob, Bret Michaels of Poison. After he did a concert at a local dive bar in 2007, his roadie came out and asked a group of us if we wanted to stick around. I couldn't believe it because I have seen him perform a zillion times and he usually doesn't do autographs after. Long story short, only 2 of us could go and I ran out the door before anyone else could, leaving my FI in the dust, and jumped on his tour bus. Got pictures and got to talk for awhile. I have been his biggest fan for 20 years and I thought I was going to die, especially after he gave me a giant hug and kiss! My FI knows that should Bret ever come to his senses and realize that I am the love of his life that FI will have to make room! LOL. We do have some local celeberties. Slipknot lives in Des Moines and my FI and I run into them occationally, mostly the lead singer Corey Taylor. One of my co-workers lives next door to them. Also my FI and I met Ben Linus from Lost the other day- he was in visiting family. My cousin is a up and coming country singer, but I'm not a country fan. Jason Brown. He is making it big here and in Nashville but its a work in progress. My FI has met some interesting people through work, he used to be a blackjack dealer for 9 years at Harrah's casino in KC. During that time the following played at his table: Kevin Smith (director), Cat Williams, All of the comedians from the Kings of Comedy Tour, many of the KC Chiefs football players, Payton Manning, James Brown, Louis Anderson.

Congrats! That is really exciting!

Yay April! You, me and Betsy! WOOHOO! We are on our way to...well nothing.. I am just so excited!

I-80 to work everyday- not so bad really. I would so move to somewhere warm if I could. The snow/cold here is getting really old fast! I have fantasies every day of winter of Florida, Georgia, Mexico.... By the way, planning a wedding in Mexico while living in an Iowa winter is very depressing! lol

Mummergirl - Having kids young is overated! I had my 2 boys during my first marriage at 21 and 23 and I am the most tried 29 year old you will ever meet! I love my kids to death but I wish I had waited, life would have been less of a struggle financially, physically, and emotionally. I feel like I don't give them what they deserve. If I could do it over I would wait till I was older and enjoyed other things in life more and saved my money! Being broke sucks! LOL.

Betsy! Are we the only Iowa girls active on the forum? What town do you live it? I live in Newton but work in downtown Des Moines. Pst.. what do these people know, there is always trouble to get into in Iowa! LOL
-
I sent mine out about 14-15 months before because I know that I have a lot of people that would need to save money and so I wanted to give them plenty of notice. There is no rule when you need to but most websites I have looked at recommended 9-12 months before. I knew my family and friends would need more time than that.

To put it into perspective ladies, when my kids were little it cost about $150 a week per kid for daycare. Now keep in mind I live in Iowa where cost of living is cheaper too. So with 2 kids in full time daycare I was spending more a month on daycare than my mortgage payment!! Something to think about... the rest is nothing that can't be handled, clothes, diapers etc can all be worked into a budget...

Unprofessionally, I spend my days on BDW when I should be working. Professionally, I am a paralegal for the Special Litigation Division of the Attorney General's office. My FI was in the Army and then a blackjack dealer for Harrah's casino for 9 years, now that he moved to my state he is going back to school for IT

Duh, that's what cell phones and computers are for! So, we are putting in our counter offer today. I hate to feel like I'm "making" him do something, but really this has to get done... Do not feel bad! You are not making him do anything! Just because you told him he has to call doesn't mean he can't tell them he wants to wait. You are doing the right thing. He needs to grow up and put on his big boy pants! Keep us posted, I hope you feel better now, keep standing up for what you want, there is nothing wrong with that especially when he is not holding up his end of the deal.

He doesn't give a shit because I'm the one who has to call the mortgage guy and tell him and call the RE agent and tell her. He just has to tell me. He makes me waste other peoples time as well as my own and I've had it. Its not like we thought they were going to accept our first offer. We knew we would have to counter. He has an unrealistic view of what he wants to do and I'm sooo mad right now. I've had enough of stressing over the where we are going to live subject. I'm so sorry, I would be fuming too! I say that he needs to be the one to call if he is going to be like that! Maybe getting your own apartment (or threatening to) will put his priorities in perspective or scare him enough to! Good Luck, I wish I had some better words of advise.

I don't think I can have a cupcake. I want one (curse you) but I was very bad and had a large (ok like really large, so big my FI asked if it was to share) piece of chocolate b-day cake last night with lots of extra chocolate frosting.... I want cake.

I've lost 10lbs and can't seem to lose anymore....mind you I'm not putting in as much effort anymore. I can't quit because my guilt of wasting that money would never let me, but secretly I really wish I could just drop it. lol. Oh I hear ya! I paid for a year membership last fall and I am dragging my butt out of bed every AM at 5 and I am not really seeing the results I want. I am not a morning person and I just want to give up and cry and eat a big tub of ben and jerry's. But I WILL look amazing in my dress and for the photos, so I keep going... sadly.

It happened.. I was let go from my job.
~Stephanie~ replied to sunsetbride1's topic in Just venting or funnies
I'm sorry to hear about your job, I can't imagine what you must be going through. I have been lucky so far, I work for the State and we are looking at furloughs next fiscal year but there have not been any talk of layoffs in my office (cross-fingers). Many of my friends have not been so lucky. Its been a few days just thought I'd see how you were holding up, espcially with the start of the new week and not heading off to work on Monday... Let us know if you need anything. -

Everybody gains weight, but that is fixable. I would tell her, your son doesn't mind the extra cushion for the pushin. LOL....I hope everything works out for you. Good Luck! OMG, you are too funny! I can just picture saying that to my FMIL- "he doesn't mind the extra cushion for the pushin!" I agree, I would not apologize. If anything I might apologize for getting so upset or the way I handled something, but never for the thing that the other person did. That is like saying that your feelings do not matter.
