My fiance's parents are hosting a pre-wedding reception in Canada for all his family and friends up there. His mom has asked me about wording for the invite and i'm having a hard time with the "no gifts, but" part. We aren't registering because we already own a house together and don't need things. IF people are going to get us something we'd prefer it to be money so we don't have things we don't need and things we have to ship back home or try to take on the plane. I'm just having a hard time wording it. I absolutely don't want to seem like we're asking or expecting gifts. But how can I tell them how to give a gift without it seeming like that?? This is all i've got. How does it sound? "A gift is neither expected nor required. The pleasure of your company would be the greatest gift received. For those who prefer to spoil the couple, please remember the bride and groom will be traveling back to their home in Louisiana."

If it doesn't sell i'm going to cut it off to knee length and make it a reception dress...

A little down about people's reactions...
KJT1985 replied to KJT1985's topic in Just venting or funnies
Vent all you want ladies. It just hacks me off people tell ME i'm being selfish on MY day! I know if it was THEIR day I would go above and beyond to make sure they were happy and getting what they want. We each only get one (hopefully) and shouldn't it be OUR feelings and memories that matter! They've all had or will have their day. And it's not like we're asking them to sell a kidney to come. If they can, they can. If not, they'll be missed but in the end it's our decisions because its OUR day. Yes, I suppose I am being selfish by wanting to do it OUR way and ignoring all the guilt trips and whining. But that's ok - it's the one day where it IS ok. -
Real vs. Fake flowers- your opinions?
KJT1985 replied to KJT1985's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Awesome! Thanks for all the links everybody! For some odd reason my fiance actually has an opinion on this - he doesn't like any fake flowers. I might just end up going with the free bouquet that comes with our package. I don't really care about the flowers THAT much but I'm certainly going to keep my eye out for what I want in silk flowers. Thanks guys! -
Try checking bravobride.com or ebay. Ebay doesn't seem to have any quite that cheap when you consider shipping but they might combine shipping for you since you're buying multiple colors. Bravo Bride doesn't seem to have any that cheap either but you can always keep an eye out there. Good luck!

Hoping for Costa Rican wedding in the fall...any tips?

I guess it depends on your budget and what type of wedding youre looking for. I know a few girls around here are planning wedding in Costa Rica. My fiance and I vacationed there last August so I can't really give you a wedding review but I can tell you about the specific resort we stayed at (only one in CR I've been to). It's called Paradisus Playa Conchal and is an AMAZING resort in the north west. If you want a really nice beach and lots of ocean life - probably not the best spot. I heard the East cost is much better for that. The resort however was beautiful, couldn't complain about the food or service. With that said, it was a bit pricey which is the ONLY reason we're not getting married there - because I didn't want to ask our guests to pay that much. For a week, including flights it cost us right at $5,000. It IS all inclusive so food and drinks were included in that price. There's lots of activities to do too. We did the kayak/snorkel trip (free) and the sunset cruise (free but book the day you get there! it fills up fast) and there were many other things we did not do. Anyway, here are some pictures if you're interested (including ones of the Liberian airport) Costa Rica - August 2008 pictures by Katie_T85 - Photobucket Most of the staff spoke decent English, the housekeeping staff- not so much but they try really hard to be pleasant and speak slow spanish if you indicate you know a few phrases. I never felt unsafe or saw anything bad while we were there. This is getting long but feel free to message me if it's something you might be interested in and have any questions! Katie -
stressing about the dress

Hmm. I guess I just really need to talk to my fiance, go dress shopping, hopefully find THE dress and ask them about that particular one. THANKS!!! -
stressing about the dress
KJT1985 replied to KJT1985's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
thanks for the suggestion. My concern with that is that you can't always take dresses in and have them look good because of the detail. I'd really rather not spend a lot of money on a dress, lose two sizes, and not be able to have it altered. AND I really doubt he'd go for spending that kind of money before I lose the weight. He'd be worried I'd want to slack off then (and I might). Haha -
I bought two on ebay from a store somewhere up north that was no longer going to carry the lines. They both came promptly and were in PERFECT condition! I couldn't have been happier - except that I wasn't as in love with the dress I wanted to wear for the wedding - long story, now they're both up for sale.
-
So I bought a dress off ebay that I hadn't even tried on because it was cheap and was everything I *said* I was looking for - even though I wasn't really in love with it (I tend to get too excited about things and rush into decisions). My fiance has offered to buy me ANY dress I want if I lose the weight we BOTH want me to. But now i'm starting to stress. Our wedding is in February and what if it takes me awhile to lose it then I don't have time to order a dress? What if i'm stuck buying something used or online again and end up with another dress i'm not totally in love with? I'm REALLY kicking myself for rushing into such a decision and also for not talking him into spending the money on the one I wanted in the first place (hehe). Now I only have 7-8 months to lose weight AND find a dress!!!! AHHH!!! Ok maybe this should go in the venting/stressing section.

A little down about people's reactions...
KJT1985 replied to KJT1985's topic in Just venting or funnies
Thanks guys! My parents have been relatively good about it - my mom's already out buying clothes for the trip (since the seasons will be changing soon and we're getting married in Feb). It makes me really happy to see that she's starting to get into it a bit more. My brother on the other hand still isn't planning on coming and has been complaining to other mutual friends. I'd really just like to slap him and ask why he thinks he should get a say in this. Haha. I love him and really wish he would find a way to go (it's more being stubborn than anything else) but if he can't i'm not changing my plans. Sure we'll both remember him not being there and be sad about it but my main memory of that day will be my fiance and I committing ourselves to each other and its important to do it how we want to. -

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think I could go quite that low on it. I'm just trying to get out of them what I paid. I hope you find something! Have you tried bravobride? Cheap Wedding Dresses, Gowns and Favors ? BravoBride.com Though, it seems like brides there are a bit more delusional about the prices than we are here. Good luck!

Haha. Thanks guys!

Thanks guys! The idea makes me more excited now hearing that a lot of people would have a blast! I feel like we need to have SOMETHING, no matter how small since a lot of people won't be able to make it and we're living in another state - gives us a good reason to go back and visit. Having something like this makes it super stress free and fun!

We're getting married in Feb and our colors are pink and green. My FILs are throwing us a reception in Oct or Nov. What are you opinions on using the wedding colors for the reception? Part of me likes it so its consistent but the other part thinks it'll look silly to have a pink/green reception in Canada in Oct/Nov. Another small part of me loves the idea of doing fall colors so I can get the best of both worlds and "milk" the situation for all its worth.... Thoughts

First time I went shopping it was just me and a gf and I tried on close to 50 that weekend and there was ONE I fell in love with. The next shopping trip was with my mother, FMIL, FSIL, and a different friend and it was hard to know what dresses I was in love with compared to the ones everybody else was in love with. No worries, you'll find one you can't live without! -
