So...there are two types of UV light, UVA and UVB. One can't pentrate your skin deeply and causes your cells to burn. The other goes deeper into your skin, causing a tan but also causes more DNA damage (what leads to skin cancer). A tan is brought about by your cells sending melanin pigments to the surface so as to block some of the damaging rays. Tanning beds use the type of UV light that goes deep into your skin (so you tan instead of burn). However, it IS much more dangerous than getting a natural tan (because your skin has no time to react and send a "buffer" up to protect your DNA). With that said, spray tanning is healthier but something i've never personally tried. I have used a tanning bed a few times (because I too wanted that base tan so I didn't get burned). I have dark hair but white skin and I started using the tanning bed around 8-10 minutes each time for maybe 3 times a week. Initially I was a bit red but never had any flaking, itching problem - just turned tan within a day or so. Over time, you can increase the amount of time you spend in there. I got up to about 15 minutes. While its more dangerous, I don't see any problem with using a bed just for things like this (would NEVER do it on a regular basis). I'm probably going to start going about a month before the wedding. I want a good base so I don't burn when we get down there but I also don't want to be unnaturally dark. I, personally, don't want the mess of a spray tan. Also, a warm tanning bed is REALLY comfy and relaxing during the winter months! Just my two cents...

I hope there's not already a thread for this. I searched and couldn't find anything. I'm having a hard time deciding on my jewelry for the big day and need inspiration. So....show me your jewelry! A picture with your dress would be awesome so I can see how it looks against dresses (also not sure the size of jewelry I should be looking for). Thanks girls! You're THE BEST!

It's very convenient for people to jump in their car and go to your LOCAL wedding because it's just a party with FREE food and alcohol...it's EASY and it's CONVENIENT. BUt the second they have to go the extra mile and step out of their comfort zone to be there for YOUR special day it becomes too dificult. I think they're the selfish ones for putting that on you.... it's YOUR day - You're supposed to be selfish and do it your way. To me this wedding has been a great way to weed out the people who don't need to be there in the first place but I would "have" to put up with if the wedding was local. As far as I'm concerned the people who REALLY matter will be there and everyone else can kiss it. All the people who I'm really close to, love and will make that day special have said they will be there no matter what and they are super excited. Those are the kind of people I want in my wedding and my life. Don't let anyone make you feel like crap about how you decide to celebrate the biggest day of your life. I TOTALLY agree. My "friend" who I asked to be maid of honor got mad at me. I asked her to stand up with my and she acted like she would do ANYTHING to be there, which I thought was weird because she's getting her masters and I understand she doesn't have a lot of time or money. BUT she's my oldest friend and was the obvious choice for a MOH. A couple months later (AFTER I flew her to see me to go dress shopping) she looks up prices and calls me to tell me she can't come (this was ELEVEN months prior to the wedding mind you). I told her that I had thought that initially since I know how much she has going on and that she doesn't have a job (therefore, money). She got really at me for saying that I assumed she wouldn't go. Well, wtf? I didn't want to get mad AT HER for not going or make her feel guilty or like I expected her to go into debt for me. What did she want from me?! Later she emails me about how i'm a different person and she thinks it was a mistake on her part to be my friend in the first place if i'm going to do something like that. And how dare I have a wedding where friends and family can't attend. Then my brother got mad at me for it too - telling me I was being selfish and all that. My aunt laid the guilt trip on because my grandmother was 89, I was the first grandchild to get married and my grandma wouldn't be there to see it. My grandma wouldn't even have know what was going on and as it turns out, she passed away 3 weeks ago so it's not even an issue anymore. (not that I don't LOVE my grandma and wish she could have been there, but I would liked to have had her there and KNOWN what was going on). With all that said, YES it stresses me out when people do or say those things. But in the end, I know that those who love me WILL be there. And if you're going to throw that kind of tantrum, I don't want you there anyway. One of my favorite sayings is "Be yourself. Because those who matter don't mind. And those who mind, don't matter"

Getting your OOT Bag there
KJT1985 replied to Girasole's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Ohh. I think that would be pretty risky and probably not worth the cost. If we do OOT bags, the stuff will definitely get packed in our luggage. I'm slightly worried about this. We get two checked bags for free (and carry on of course) but we're going to be gone for two weeks and I want to carry my dress on. So, i'm limited to two bags and I keep thinking about all the stuff I potentially have to take with me. Then I remember that my fiance will have two bags as well. We should be able to get our clothes in one each and then could use two bags for wedding things if needed. Then it's no problem. Check with your airline, it might not really be too much of a hassle to just take them. -
No reception, we didn't want to pay the extra money having something private would cost us. I don't care AT ALL about the dances or cake cutting. We're having two AHRs so we can get the dance and/or cake in then and once is more than enough for us both. Why don't you get some prices first and then lay it all out for your fiance? You can usually do a private reception on the beach which doesn't make it seem silly with so few people in a big room. This might cost $40+ a person. And once you see prices it may not matter that much to you anymore either. Also, if you're having a reception back home - consider doing all those things there instead. Good luck!

For me I think it's been the reaction to us having a destination wedding. I've had people tell me i'm selfish for doing it, people tell me they can't go and then expect me to change our plans for THEM, people laying guilt trips on me. It's really been the absolute worst part. I'm not stressing about everything else because most of it just doesn't matter that much to me. And the things that do matter are mostly in my control. I have my moments where I stress about the dress or if the salon at the property is going to be capable enough to not make me look like crap. But the worst of it is definitely the reactions...

I was already overweight when I got pregnant last year, 200lbs, and then gained an additional 60lbs during the pregnancy, and still had 30lbs left over from the pregnancy by the time my son was 10wks old, which was in March of this year. Yep, 230lbs. I made a decision to lose the weight, after first making a quick trip to the donut shop , because I can't be 230 with a toddler. I'd be exhausted! So, I started with the 1st day to 5K running program, a strength training program my friend gave me, and the Extreme Fat Smash Diet. I lost 9lbs in the first 3 weeks. By the time I finished the 1st day to 5K program, 10wks, I had lost 30lbs and brought me back down to 200lbs. But, instead of quitting and just being happy to be back at 200, I kept going, ran some 5Ks, and currently training for a 10K, and now I'm down to 170lbs...staring at the oh so elusive 160s..lol But, I've lost 60lbs since March, and I have asthma. It takes hard work, but it can be done. Trust me, this is coming from the person who joined the Marching Band to avoid P.E..lol Ahaha yeah! I cried every year at field day because I didn't want to run. I weigh 170 now too. A year ago I was 135. 9 pounds in 3 weeks is amazing!! I'm swimming and doing weights. I lost a couple inches everywhere but still have yet to SEE it. I got down to 135 initially by running but I hate it so much and love swimming. I don't FEEL like i'm getting as good of a workout, even though its supposed to be better. Guess I need to get back to the couch to 5k program....thanks for the motivation!!

That's awesome! There really seems to be a direct correlation between the amount of time I spend on SP and the amount of exercising (and eating right) I do - not to mention my level of self esteem. When I stop checking in, my eating and exercise habits go down the drain. I gained 40 pounds in the past year (crying inside)!! I need to get it off. I started going to the gym a couple months ago but have only lost 5 pounds. Now I need to drop 35-ish before the end of February. I don't think it's going to happen. Not that it's not theoretically possible...I just can't seem to lose that much that quickly. And I certainly have a hard time pushing myself hard enough to make it happen.

So about a year ago somebody suggested that I check out Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople but I was slightly skeptical because we've all seen those "do this and you will lose weight" type websites. BUT I checked it out (might as well since its 100% free) and I've been hooked since. I hate recommending the website to other people simply for the fact that I always feel like an infomercial when I do. I just LOVE the site so much though. You can log your food, exercise, make blog posts, join support groups, and get active in their forum community. My fiance calls it "facebook for fatties" but its so much more than that. It's even for people who just want to be conscious about living a healthy lifestyle. I do SO much better with eating and exercise when I visit the website frequently. It really is THE BEST tool I have found to keep me on track. You earn points with everything you do and can buy electronic goodies (or send them to friends). I cannot praise the website enough. If you're interested in trying it, use my name as a referral "KJT1985"
