  1. Well what might make them different prices are whether the pearls are freshwater or salt water. The akoya pearls have a nicer shape than freshwater. Plus it might be the necklace that makes the cost different, either silver or gold plated. The interesting thing about this is there is a chance, albeit slim, that you will get a rare blue pearl which is worth some money (I think like $80 - $100). I personally don't think it's tacky or weird, just for fun. It depends on your bridesmaids I guess. I think the pearl makes it an interesting "beach" type gift.
  2. Hi All, I couldn't find another post talking about this but i've come across a fantastic gift for the ladies in your wedding party...They are called akoya wish pearls and they come in a kit with a real oyster and a sterling silver or gold plated necklace. You make a wish and the color of the pearl determines the luck you will have....SO FUN!!! They also are very inexpensive if you shop around for them. The pearls have never been opened so it truly is a surprise to see what you get! Here is a link to check them out: Unique Glow: Wish Pearls This site is just to show you but I would shop around, EBAY is good, you can get them much cheaper, especially if you buy them in bulk.
  3. Oh whoops...I didn't see this post and I started a new one about the same thing. I heard that as well I was in the boutique yesterday and the sales lady told me this, I thought it was a sales technique at first...She said they are going up 20% next week at some point. I bought my dress yesterday...I GOT LUCKY THERE!!!
  4. I know what you mean about the prices going down but it could be that people won't be buying as many Maggie dresses due to the economy so the only way to make $ would be to increase the price of the entire line. People that can afford them will likely pay more. (just a theory though)
  5. This could also just be an increase in Maggie's line at the shop I was at (in Calgary)...but it wouldn't hurt to double check!
  6. Hi All, I just purchased my Maggie Sottero dress yesterday, "Eleanor" and the sales lady informed me that all dresses in Maggie's line will be going up 20% due to the economy(?) sometime next week. Now i'm not sure how much truth there is to this, it didn't matter to me or force me to purchase because I was making my purchase regardless yesterday. I'm in AB Canada so i'm not sure if this is happening anywhere else or if it's a regional thing. I really just wanted to bring this up so that if you are hesitating on a Maggie dress you make a quick decision or talk to your sales rep because 20% is a significant amount when talking about these dresses.
  7. Love Love Love your dress!!! The layers are amazing and super flowy (I'm not sure if flowy is a word or not You look gorgeous!!!
  8. First off gorgeous dress!!! I like both veils but I am a strong believer in keeping things simple so I would have to go with the first one. Your dress has so much detail I think the first one actually enhances the detail on your dress due to its simplicity. Although I have to agree with everyone else that the second is beautiful as well.
  9. That dress looks like it was made for you!!! I agree the bustle is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing
  10. Okay ladies...update here...I just did my second brazilian myself!!! Sure it may not be as great as the professional job but it near perfect and was 1/8 the price. I used the Nair cooling wax strips. I think this was easier because I had it done professionally the first time and the regrowth was quite a bit thinner. Whatever hairs were missed can be easily plucked. My tip be brave....it hurt way less the second time. Also if you are going to do this yourself make sure you pay attention to the direction of the hair growth to avoid ingrown hairs and make sure you hold your skin tight. If your skin is super sensitive, DO NOT do this yourself. Also...ask for help if you need it...some men get strangely excited about helping with this kind of thing, lol!
  11. Help Please.... I'm hoping someone may be able to give me some insight on these two resorts; Royal Decameron and Melia Vallarta. I am trying to decide which would be better for our guests to stay at. We are getting married offsite at a restaurant on the beach, the location is closest to the Decameron. Both resorts have decent reviews online on Trip Advisor. Both are inexpensive which is important as cost is an issue for some of my family members. I've read the reviews on this forum but i'm really wondering if anyone else has info to share.
  12. Hey Jen, I was just at a wedding at Gran Bahia, Akumal....it was beautiful!!! Anyhow back to the waxing...you also need to stay out of the sun for about 24 hours or so after and I was warned not to tan within 24 hours prior to the appt as there is a chance the skin will be more sensitive and you can get a scab. It's rare and likely won't happen but it's good to be aware of these kinds of things before you go in for your appt.
  13. Have you decided on the Royal Decameron for your wedding? I am getting married the same date as you in PV but we're doing a beach wedding at a restaurant in Bucerias called Karen's Place. I was thinking of booking my family in at the Decameron for the duration of our stay.
  14. We're staying at Casa Amorita (bed and breakfast in PV) for our honeymoon. Check out the site: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Bed and Breakfast Inn - Casa Amorita - Puerto Vallarta Lodging - Introduction Also the reviews on trip advisor are amazing and Rita the owner is a pleasure to deal with. Just know it usually fills up quickly so if you decide to book you'll need to make a quick decision!!!
  15. I think it depends on how fast your hair grows. It's been a week for me now and i'm still good. You should try it and see!
  16. Wow great info...my FI has been telling me he wanted a black ring like one of his buddies and I just found something similar online that's a black plated tungsten ring. They are very reasonably priced.
  17. Okay so i'm back and I survived!!! It really wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be. She did the first strip and I was like "That was it?" I pretty much talked the whole time which helped distract me from what was happening. She also applied pressure and that definitely helped! I obviously had a very good and professional waxer, as I had heard good things about her from some people in town. She did inform if you have an inexperienced person doing this you will likely be in a lot more pain. She said she actually gets this done herself and knows what helps get her through it. Don't be shy ladies....this is totally worth it!!!
  18. Here's a link to the site if anyone else wants to check it out: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Bed and Breakfast Inn - Casa Amorita - Puerto Vallarta Lodging - Introduction
  19. Amazing tips....I feel a lot more confident going into this now!!! At least I know people have survived this, and the "it's not so bad" comment is truly motivating
  20. I just voted. What a beautiful picture!!!! I would've voted for you regardless
  21. I've booked my wedding at Karen's Place for January 2010. Let me know how everything goes. I've never been there but my parents have and they love it!!!
  22. Has anyone stayed at the Casa Amorita in Puerto Vallarta? We are thinking of booking it for our honeymoon. I have read that it books up quickly so we're gonna have to make a quick decision here!!!
  23. Hey Melissa, my advice is to find out how much you want to spend as well as how much you want your guests to pay to come. Some areas in Mexico are less costly and are equally as beautiful. Do you know of a good travel agent? That would be a great place to start!!!
