    Newbie!

Congratulations Lindsey, welcome to the forum. Oahu is beautiful and there are many folks who have planned a wedding in Hawaii here on BDW. Happy Planning!
  3. No worries Bubblebee 287, everyone on this forum is looking to create a special and meaningful celebration and that comes in many different forms. One thing my fiance and I are doing is putting a twist on the old tradition of "something old, new, borrowed, and blue". During our cocktail hour we will have have 4 signature drinks that are as follows: 1. something old: classic margarita 2. something new: mango mojito (or something like that) 3. something borrowed: lemonade, non-alcoholic - this is my FI mother's recipe who has passes and will be one of many ways we honor her memory throughout our wedding 4. something blue: mineral water with fresh blueberries We will also do a sand ceremony with another slight twist. I grew up on the West coast while he grew up on the East coast therefore, we will bring a small amount of sand from both locations and merge it with the sand from where we marry. There are so many great ideas that will inspire you so that your personalities will truly be reflected throughout your wedding. Good luck!
  4. Congratulations Laura and welcome to the forum! I know it's hard to choose a location with so many great countries and cities to select from. Have you traveled to any beach towns with your fiance before you got engaged? If so, that could be a great place to start. As Sapphire723 said, there are many different locations detailed throughout this forum such as Jamaica, Hawaii, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, etc. Also, remember, Mexico is a huge country so you could choose a spot that's very different from your friend's wedding. It can be challenging to select a location but it can also be a lot of fun as well. Happy planning!

    Hello

Welcome to the forum Jess, you will find lots of useful information here to help plan your wedding. Happy planning!
  6. My FI and I have also deliberated on this issue and have decided to quietly get married in the States and have a symbolic ceremony in Mexico. We decided this for two reasons: cost and personalizing the experience. In addition to the hassle with translating the paperwork and completing blood work, having a legal service in Mexico will cost an additional $1500 according to the numerous wedding coordinators we have communicated with. We also would like the flexibility of having a loved-one officiate the ceremony as opposed to a stranger. Hope this helps
  7. Excellent ideas Lil miss frogg! I love it
  8. That's so wonderful that you enjoyed your wedding experience at the Riu! Congratulations!

    Hi!

Hi Jen, welcome to the forum. You will find lots of useful information here to help you make decisions about location, venue, and everything else in between. Like you, my fiance and I wanted to get married in Mexico but wanted to find a location that is intimate and not filled with mega-resorts. Have you considered any particular region in Mexico (baja, cabo, mayan riviera, etc) yet?
  15. Welcome to the forum Vicky. You will find lots of useful information here. Happy planning!
  16. Welcome to the forum Bethany, you will find lots of useful information here. My fiance and I are also getting married in Tulum but at a different hotel. There are many Tulum couples on this forum, most of whom are getting married at Dreams. If you go to the Mayan Riviera section of BDW, you will find many posts about your hotel and the surrounding areas. Good luck and have fun!
  17. Yeah, this design is the inspiration behind our decor as well. I have seen pictures of the ceremony set-up before but have not seen the entire look. Thanks for this post!
  18. As a groomsman, I've received moneyclips, pocketwatches and bbq sets, but I thought the best idea was sports memorabilia that reminded the groom of me. He gave a piece of memorabilia to all of his groomsmen specific to their favorite team. He also told a story behind what made him think of giving us that piece of memorabilia. The personalized touch really stood out.
