Hi Everyone, FI and I just complteted this newsletter that we sent to our guests yesterday. The first page (which is not included) is specific to our event and therefore probably not very useful to the forum. The remaining 13 pages however may be of use. It's broken down into the following sections so you can decide if it is worth downloading: 1. Brief overview of Tulum and the Yucatan Peninsula -location, culture, landscape 2. Regions of Tulum -Archeological zone -Tulum pueblo (town) -Hotel zone (beach hotel row) 3. Accommodations in Tulum - we only highlighted a selection of accommodations that represent a range that we think will meet our guest's needs 4. Getting to Tulum -Entry requirements: passports and customs -Cancun International Airport and transportation 5. What to bring 6. Things to do in and around Tulum -useful travel and planning websites 7. Useful information -weather -currency -time zone -remaining healthy -remainins safe -useful telephone numbers We hope this helps anyone who is traveling to Tulum or trying to put something together for their guests. Tulum Newsletter- Version II.doc

Because you are having a BBQ, my first thought is to get personalized bottles of BBQ sauce or hot sauce with your logo or picture from your wedding as the label. You could also pick up something like that in Cancun such as mini bottles of hot sauce. Another way you could tie in the location is to use photos from your wedding as table numbers.

Hi TorontoGirloutWest, I think it's a great idea to hang out at Milamores when you go to Tulum for a visit. Whether you stay there or just spend time on beach at their property, check it out. When my FI and I were in Tulum in March, we didn't stay there but visited Milamores on 3 consecutive days and had an amazing time getting to know Pamela and Alberto (owners). On the last night we were there, they invited us to participate in a menu tasting and everything served was delish!! Daniel, the chef at Milamores, is a genius. Pamela and Alberto are very personable and accessible and I believe that they will neotiate with you especially if you are not interested in an open bar. I believe that they will go out of their way to accommodate your needs and you might be able to come to a mutual arrangement such as 1-2 hours of open bar or establish a fixed menu price and pay for drinks as they are consumed. I am confident that you will be able to work something out with them. As for the ceremony set-up, I think that in part it depends on how many people will be attending your wedding. We are planning on having approximately 75 guests (yikes) and are working with a coordinator (Gwen Grosset) who has informed us that Milamores will provide the tables and chairs for the reception but we will need to rent chairs for the ceremony. Unfortunately I think this if fairly customary with most locations as FI and I visited several establishments and met with 4 different coordinators and this seemed to be the same throughout. Chairs are generally $6/chair. I do not know what Milamores' responsibility will be pertaining to set-up, but they are working closely with our coordinator and again I believe that they will be very supportive and helpful. As for now, we are planning on having our ceremony on the beach in front of the smaller villa (which as of now is the main entrance of the property), our cocktail hour on top of the terrace of the larger villa (unbelievable!!!), and dinner/dancing/beach lounge/cigar roller/bonfire, etc on the beach. I told Pamela about the style of decor I like and I think they will let us use things that they have on the property free of charge (I think..I hope). Everything else will either be be arranged by our coordinator or we will bring it with us. I hope this information helps and I an happy to discuss this more with you. If you would like more details about the menu, other services, things to do in the area, our wedding coordinator, etc, just let me know and I would be delighted to supply you with more info. I am so confident with our decision to get married at Milamores and believe that once you see it, you will be floored. My FI and I were stunned when we first walked in, which is why we had to go back a second and a third time. You will be able to create the wedding that reflects you personalities and suites you taste. Good luck!

Quote: Originally Posted by TorontoGirloutWest I contacted Hotel Milamores (through a wedding planner) based on their website and the rave reviews of a recent Milamores bride. I was expecting their costs to be reasonable but I was shocked. The quote I got back was for packages starting at $150/pp and that doesn't include tax and gratuity. They wouldn't break it down for individual costs it's a per head cost. I was sad because I was really hoping to include it in my list of potential wedding locations! Yes, it's true that Milamores now charges a flat fee of $150 per adult and $55 per child which includes a pretty extensive menu and open bar for 4-5 hours. I found this rate to be equivalent to other properties we visited in Tulum but what was really the deal maker for us was that Milamores does NOT charge a site fee, unlike other properties. After doing the calculations, my FI and I decided that for the type of wedding we wanted (intimate location, rustic-elegant venue, beautiful property, good feelings with ownership and management of the property, etc) it was more economical for us to proceed with Milamores. I know the prices are not as cheap as one would hope, but you'll be getting something special if you choose to get married there or stay there.

I'm getting married at Milamores this November and couldn't be happier with this decision!!! My FI and I were in Tulum this past March and accidently stumbled upon the property and absolutely fell in love with it. While Milamores is beautiful, it was the amazing hospitality of the new owners that had us sold. Pamela and Alberto went out of their way during our visit and are sure to make our wedding a wonderful experience. We have reserved the large villa for the weekend so some of our guests can stay there, and believe me when I say the rooms are fantastic. I am planning on posting some information about Milamores however I am waiting until their new website is up and running (in approximately 1 week) so that people can easily reference the hotel. I would be happy to share any information I have in the meantime.

Justustwo - How awful! I completely understand your state of mind right now and the sense of panic you have, but all hope is not lost! I recently had a package of photographs "delivered" to my house from USPS that came with some drama (although not nearly as intense as your). While tracking this package, USPS had indicated that it was delivered several days prior, when it was not in fact delivered. After talking to numerous folks at the post office, I was continuously given the run-around and was told that I could file a report, but they insisted that the package was delivered. After several agonizing days and phone calls, we figured out that the package was delivered to the wrong address (postal carrier inverted my address with my neighbor's) and the package was then correctly delivered to me...unopened. Your package could still very easy show-up. There are these mix-ups all the time unfortunately, but there is still hope. Do you have a neighbor that you frequently get your mail mixed-up with? I'm sending you the best and all the positive energy I can!!!

Gr8ful - Great analysis of resorts in the area and congratulations on your selection of Rancho San Eric! I have not been to that establishment, but will be getting married down the road from it at Milamores Villas and will be visiting Hechizo for a special pre-wedding dinner. Hechizo is highly recommended and I am excited to try it out. We might have some guests stay at Rancho San Eric, so I may have questions for you down the road. Congratulations!

Words can't describe how saddened I am for you and everyone experiencing this mess! I am truly sorry that you are going through this and know that you and your FI will find a way to make sense out of all this crap. It suck that it's fear that is perpetuating the hype and paralyzing people. You have a supportive community here at BDW to listen and help problem solve. But for now, tears and disappointment are understandable.

JennyK's TTD pics!
boven replied to JennyK's topic in Post your Destination Wedding & Engagement Pictures!
You guys look great together! Beautiful shots and you can't tell from the pictures that your husband suffered that terrible accident in the hotel. Thanks for sharing! -
That would certainly piss me off, so I understand. How does your FI feel about this? I can see that this could become sticky if your FI does not take issue with his brother's actions. How many people did you and your FI want to invite? For instance if you have set a limit with the number of guests, you could tell your FI's brother that at this time you don't have additional room for added invites. I'm so sorry and completely understand your frustration!
