We've hired a photographer in Punta Cana from HDC photography. The guys name is Arnaud and he seems really good from the pics on his website! His prices are fairly resonable for the amount of photo's you get. We too didn't think that the resorts packages had enough pics to justify the price.... -
I have to confess that I'm not excited about our 'new' plans for our wedding. I was so choked when our flights were cancelled for our original plans in Mexico, that I'm not into planning this new one at all...luckily the FI is trying to do it. Lol! I really wanted to go somewhere I'd never been for our wedding, and I've been to the Dominican before, and while it was nice, I had no intentions of returning. However it was the only place within our price range that we could re-book for. And why didn't we stay with Mexico? Well with the H1N1 crap happening we couldn't take the chance that our flights would be cancelled again! Don't think I could handle that stress AGAIN. Doesn't help that all of our friends are super stoked on the Dominican and I'm like "yeah, whatever". I feel like a mopey little kid that doesn't appreciate anything....kinda hoping I'll snap outta this before we go..... Thanks for listening to me feel sorry for myself!

YAY!! Another Canadian off to Dreams Punta Cana! We're getting married there July 21st, so if you have any questions feel free to ask me as we're mostly done our plans....

There are also heaps of pictures to be found on that forum as well. Hope this helps you out with your planning!! We too were originally in Mexico until our flights were cancelled...... Cheers! -
Anyone heard of/using SKY LANTERNS?
lp579 replied to bcbride's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
We lit some of these while we were in Thailand last fall, and it looks really pretty! We were trying to order some through a friend over there however that's fallen through...let me know where you found the biodegradable ones on-line, I'd be keen to try and get some as well! Cheers! -

I would check with Moments that Matter photography (they are a vender on here) as they could come onto the hotel property as a guest or book one night (they are Canadian) and already live in the Cancun area. We had them booked originally, but when our flights were cancelled we had to change countries.... Their prices were quite resonable as well as could possibly work out cheaper than bringing someone with you.

But it sounds like you all are adjusting and rolling with the punches! I guess all you can do at this point! I commend you all! Did it cost a lot to book another date? I am sure it is been gut wrenching! Props and love to you all! BTW, I hear July is a great month to get hitched! It has actually been almost heatbreaking to go through all of the decision making again...but you gotta go with the flow and roll with the puches as your said! We changed from Mexico because it was going to cost us more to stay there as July is slightly higher prices than May?! But we stayed with Dreams resorts in the Dominican and the one in Mexico said they would return our depsoit or transfer it...just waiting for confirmation of this! The worst part has been looking for another photographer. We had Moments that Matter for Mexico and I'm super choked that we no longer have them for our wedding, as we LOVED their pics, and are struggling to find someone as good! Oh well, it'll hopefully work itself out. Now I'm just trying to find new DIY projects to keep me busy!!

I'm sure it will all work out! When we were still on our first plan in Mexico we were 9 days away from our wedding and the coordinator still wanted to finalize everything when we got to the resort...it was a Dreams property as well! I wouldn't stress about it, just go with the flow and complete things closer to the date. Also, we found that if you call them early in the morning there is usually someone in the office to talk to..... =) -
How long did you have to plan?
lp579 replied to SandDD's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
A wedding can definitly be planned in 6 months...that's how long it took ours to get together! Now due to our cancelled flights to Mexico (4 days before leaving) and moving the whole shin-dig to Dominican, we've got 2.5 months to twiddle our thumbs! Lol! Whatever time length you choose, you'll make everything you want your wedding to be, happen. -

I thought I would check in and say hi! I am finished with most of my planning...considering, and now just have some finishing up to do over then next 2 months! Hi Maybride2009! I too am a May bride transplant, and I'm happy to hear that you were able to re-schedule your wedding!! We just confirmed our newest plans on Friday! Having most things ready for our wedding I'm wondering how I'll keep myself busy as wedding prep made the time go by so much quicker before! Lol!

Just to add to the comments...I've been to both Cuba & the Dominican and the food in general was much better in the Dominican. If you have any American guests going with you they can have a difficult time getting into Cuba. Just some thoughts... =) We had our flights cancelled 3 days before flying out and have changed our wedding to July in the Dominican, my thoughts are with you as I know how tough & challenging it is to make these alternate arrangements at the last minute! Good luck with you decision making!

Hi Everyone! Joanna I know exactly what you're going through as we had all our flights cancelled by the airlines 4 days before we were supposed to leave! Tomorrow was supposed to be our wedding day at the Dreams Puerto Aventuras in Mexico...instead we'll be getting a couples massage to make all the stress of the last week go away...hopefully! To everyone else here, I'm having a really tough time getting any responces from the coordinators regarding a deposit for the wedding package. I just want to make sure they don't give our new date away...not sure I could handle another set-back! Lol! -
adnil - We are currently trying to re-book at DPA for later this year so as to use the same packages. And we did book land and air seperate as we were staying for a second week at one of the Secrets resorts....our travel agent is busy trying to find a week to accomodate our group of 40! We did try to get other flights for Saturday however it was going to cost around $750 per person and they would still be left with a credit for the air portion only to be used by the end of October...not very useful for our guests. So with all that being said we're at a stand still right now trying to see if Jacy will refund our deposit or hold it for a possible later date...and seeing if we can get our photographers to hold on....not sure on those details yet! Hopefully all of this will blow over before you are due to leave...we still wanted to go despite the flu, so fingers crossed that all will work out. If you don't get a reply from Jacy, she does answer when you call her....hope this helps you!

We were booked with sunwing and they cancelled all their flight portions of their vacation packages. We're now trying to figure out if we should book another flight and just go or forget about it all together? It's so frustratingly hard to think straight right now and the thought of how much $$$ will be lost due to all of this if we don't go....I'm lost. My fiance has really stepped up to take care of things as I've kinda crumbled under this last bit of stress...reminds me why I'm marrying him! I hope that everyone who's wedding is being affected by this turn of events remembers the bottom line...we will be marrying that special person at some point, and this will just make the bond that much stronger! Thanks for listening and good luck to everyone!! My thoughts are with you all!

Good look...not sure if it helps, but our land packages at the resort are still available and there are flights through some other airlines. We're trying to book another flight tomorrow...just have to see what happens. I can't even talk to anyone without getting tears in my eyes, so typing is very therapeutic...thanks for listening....
