So instead of being a completely different girl on the big day, he'll be able to look at me and see the woman he's woken up next to for the past 9 years (well, with a bit more makeup hehehe). Great response Miranda. I agree you need to look and feel comfortable as YOU on YOUR wedding day. I dont wear glasses but my FI has worn them everyday for the last 9 years I have known him, i'd be gutted if he took them off just for the wedding cos he looks like a totally different guy without them. Just treat your decision to wearing your glasses the same way as your decisions regarding your dress, hair, make-up etc. Do whats right for you, what you feel comfortable and confident with and no doubt you will look stunning. Some things to keep in mind are when testing eye make up do it with your glasses on (if you decide you're wearing them on the day) to get the full (true) effect. It may be worth mentioning this if someone else is doing your make-up on the day just in case they assume you're not going to keep them on. And also remember how glasses sometimes flare in photos. Ask your photographer to look out for this and the best ways to avoid it are to tip your glasses (or your chin) down slighty so the flash isnt hitting the lens straight on. Good luck with your decision.

As long as everyone is aware of your plans and chosen dates they should automatically start budgeting. Another idea is to loosely base your info on last years prices plus 10%, but give yourself plenty of time to research this and make it clear that these are not set in stone! A good way to do this without printing costs is to put all your info on a wedding website and you can just update easily as the info comes in. Dont forget to include the address on your STD's and hopefully everyone will be so distracted looking at your site they will give you a break about final prices...for a while anyway. Be patient it'll all workout. x -

Does anyone know why some resorts allow three and others four? They do seem to have a confusing system. My advice would be to narrow down to the resorts you like and contact each of them for an individual confirmation. I know it seems a pain but there is so much difference between them that its the only way to get the right answer. Also worth bearing in mind when choosing not to look at the resorts that specify 4 days prior is that some resorts include the day you arrive and the date of the wedding so its easier to fit into a 7 night holiday than it first seems. I would hate for you to turn down your dream location because of the 4 day rule only to realise you could have managed to fit it in. Finally if you do set your heart on somewhere but are still worried or unsure of the days prior thing speak directly to the WC at that location, from reading through a lot of the threads on this site I have come across several instances of WC's "bending" the rules to the brides advantage... Its always worth asking nicely. Hope this helps x -

This thread is too much, I got the munchies real bad now... Some fab inspiration here girls. Im just having a small simple cake as we only have to feed 13 including me and FI but I really want it to taste good. Thinking of going with Baileys flavour, I'll bring a bottle from duty free cos I dont think they'll have any in Tulum? I have a friend who's a chef and he's gonna come up with the recipie and make me some trial tasters but my question is this, is it rude to present the chefs at my hotel with a recipie? I really want it to be good but dont wanna P**s them off by suggesting they dont know how to make cake... etiquette experts some advice please! -

Is it HOT in here or is it just me? ...What the hell, im doing it...You've convinced me.

Love this thread. Here are just some of my impressions of planning our DW so far in advance, maybe it will help out some of you girls that are still undecided.... Once we got engaged March 2008 we discussed with close family and friends that we would definately be having a DW, that the date would definately be 26th March 2010 (ten years to the day that we first met so this is really important to us) and that they should begin saving with that in mind. We quickly decided on Mexico and started trawling the internet for ideas. Criteria we looked for included child friendly, free child places, reasonable amount of extras included in wedding packages and of course cost versus facilities. Unfortunately once we had announced that we were having a DW we seemed to be under a lot of pressure to name the place and start providing estimated costs etc. In hindsight I really wish we had resisted the urge to come up with something quickly just to satisfy everyone else. We decided on Dreams Tulum and everyone seemed happy to have a "Name" and nice pics to see on the internet. We booked our date with the hotel, created our wedding site and everything rolled along without much progress, we based everything up to that point on 2008 prices (allowing a 10% mark up for each year) and deals we had seen advertised on the net. However once we actually approached high street TA's at the beginning of this year we realised that travelling from the UK is NOT an easy ride and from the 5 featured TA's two had withdrawn our chosen hotel and two were way out of our price range leaving us only one TA to deal with and no bargaining options! Another factor against us is the standard price increase that applies over Easter. We approached a number of the internet companies we had previously based our estimates on only to find out that the deals we saw in 2008 never existed (except for 1 week in hurricane season!) They could not match the price our high street TA had given us and with increased pressure to sort it out we eventually accepted this price. Since setting our heart on Dreams Tulum for its child friendly features ALL the family and friends with children have had to drop out due to the fact that the free child places advertised only apply to American and Canadian Nationals and the child prices through our TA are unacceptable. We have also had to down scale from "the ultimate" wedding package (also another major reason for picking that hotel) to the "free" package we could have gotten at virtually ANY AI hotel in Mexico! This is in part due to us secretly paying excess charges for our family and scaling down the overall cost to them, we are doing this without their knowledge to save their pride because we couldn't bring ourselves to ask them to pay the full cost! We have had to do all this without any possibility of site visits. After all that being said I am pleased with our choice, I know we will have a wonderful day, shared with our very nearest and dearest and I have been much encouraged by the wonderful reviews on this forum. I guess the moral of this is that I URGE ALL OF YOU TO TAKE YOUR TIME! Its so easy to run away with the excitement of it all but please take advantage of the time you have available. Those that can manage site visits go for it wholeheartedly, I have so many "daft" questions that could be answered in one site visit. Most importantly DO NOT allow pressure from outsiders to influence your choices.. be brave, time is on our side and happy, happy planning to you all. x -
Hi Starryt, new to blogging, just read your entry and really crossing my fingers for you that everything turned out OK. Would you mind letting me know who you used for your dress. I'm seriously considering going with wedding dress, prom gown and bridesmaid dress by landy bridal but would like to hear your feedback on who you used and how it all turned out. x

Hi only just found this bit on the forum... does anyone read these? I've never blogged before is it just a place to vent or is it a way to get feedback on issues that you've not had resolved by posting in the forums. Also I cant seem to figure out how to search the blogs for things that may interest me, they just seem to display randomly...... a little help please. x

Hi, can anyone let me know if there are power outlets at the front of the chapel? Preferably on the left hand side (as you face towards front). Also our guitarist has a portable amp and some kind of special effects pedal to plug in, will they lend me an extension and adapter or should I bring my own. Also we are not hiring the speaker system but If I wish to use a power outlet will I have to pay? If you dont have to pay extra to be "plugged in" is it not possible to run our ipods from a power socket rather than worry about extra batteries? I have seen numerous people outside the seaside grill on the beach with lanterns and tree lights at receptions so there must be a local power supply, is it not poss to hook into this? Any help appreciated. x

Hello 2010 brides! We got engaged on 2nd March 2008 and started looking around almost immediately. After pondering over Miami we settled on Mexico and set to deciding on resorts. We are now booked with Dreams Tulum for the 26th March 2010. We sent our STD's out and set up our wedding website pretty early (summer 2008 ) in order to give everyone as much notice and saving up time as possible. I have however been frustrated that apart from a few polite emails when our wedding site was first launched no-one seems to EVER log on Good luck with all the planning. -
Hi, can anyone point me in the direction of pictures of weddings that have been taken in the chapel, tried searching but it just brings up all the posts with the word "chapel" in them. According to the brides info list on page one people do get married in there but every photo I've seen has been taken on the beach, just trying to get a feel for the quality of light in the chapel cos it looks fab on the dreamsresort site but im a little worried that no-one seems to post actual wedding pics from the chapel...or maybe im just not looking hard enough! x
-
Hi, would love to see your pics but every time I follow the link there is nothing there Especially excited to see them as im also getting married in the chapel and most of the pics are of beach ceremonies. Been struggling with the idea of stretching the budget to an outside photographer but with so much positive feedback im holding off until I see your pics. Your review was great, glad all went well.

Awesome..Thanks for such great tips, I've got 11 months to go and have moments when I feel so angry with myself for stressing over the details, this thread has helped chill me out enormously and gives me real focus for whats really important. You girls are the best, dont think I'd be doing half this well without you...even if my FI is a little worried by my forum addiction!!! HA HA -
Thanks for the feedback girls. We brits have a big pearl wearing tradition at weddings, I guess while im trying to incorporate elements of mexican tradition the pearl thing symbolises my own wedding culture and tradition so i'll prob just go with it. Special thanks to Ayita for the links... 25 days to go, how on earth do you find the time!! Hope all goes well.

A little help here girls, I've been doing a lot of research about mexican wedding traditions some of which I would like to incorporate into our ceremony. Something that has cropped up is that in Mexico a bride is not suppossed to wear pearls as it is beleived to symbolise future tears and unhappiness in the marriage I had considered using pearls as my big theme. I was going for the whole affinity between pearls and love such as the length of time it takes a pearl to develop, how it begins as a grain of sand and can only be complete if all the elements come together perfectly etc. Im not big on superstition but I dont want to cause offense to the judge or co-ordinator or for all the mexicans I encounter on the day to be aghast at my faux pas! Is this something any of you have heard of? Should I play safe and consider doing away with my pearls theme altogether? Thanks for the help.

Have you researched poss ideas linked to your Destination Wedding. Im getting married in Mexico, none of my girlfriends can come so im going to bring mexico to them for my hen night (as we brits call it!) gonna go with a mexican / fiesta / beach theme, thinking of hiring out the local dance school, (where future hubby and I are currently taking classes for our first dance) to perform and give latin dance classes to all my girls....sexy male dancers optional of course! You've picked your DW for a reason so have a brainstorm session and come up with everything you love about it and im sure you'll find loads of inspiration. Have Fun

Hi Hartyt509, Thanks for your response. Our original choice was Cancun, wish we'd stuck with it now! We checked with Caribbean Warehouse (it was initially their advertised offer prices that made the whole thing seem cost effective!!) Once we gave them our actual dates (22nd March) they were quite pricey. My fiance got them into a bidding war with Thomas Cook and after minimal discounts and lots of umming and aahhing they eventually refused to meet the Price that we got from Thomas Cook. We did get it for less than brochure price but still costing £1,700 per adult and £550 per child and to be honest they are not doing a lot for their money, still insist we have to pay more to pre-book seats and now trying to charge us an extra £30 "difficult" booking fee cos some people are travelling at different dates! We will be checking carribbean warehouse regularly closer to the time to look for late deals for those that cant book yet. Im mega intrigued about the free child place thing, you'll be pleased to hear you definately got a bargain there cos in the small print on the dreams resort site it states they are only for USA and Canadian citizens. Im def going to mention it to T.Cook! We have also been told another poss price issue may be our wedding dates proximity to Easter and Spring Break. Im originally from Leeds, but future hubby's a Lancashire lad so now we're based in Preston. Whereabouts are you? Just over a month to go for you.... Hope all goes well in the run up to the big day.

Hi girls, Just wondering if there are any Brides travelling from the U.K to Dreams Tulum for their wedding? We are booked with Thomas Cook now but really struggled with getting a tour operator who actually goes there. None of the advertised rates seem to exist, the free child place offer does not apply to us Brits and lots of our preferred guests have 2 or 3 children each and simply cannot afford to attend. We feel that we are paying a fortune for the privelige of "choosing" the hotel we want rather than let the tour operators preference dictate where we go!!! Would love to swap stories with anyone with similiar experiences. After seeing the wonderful reviews on here I wouldn't now consider changing venues but still feel that I wish I'd looked around more before setting my heart on Dreams. Good Luck with the planning girls, many thanks for your inspiration and ideas so far.
