RIU RM Palace Brides??
KimmyG replied to Jaime's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Jannae- your pup is adorable!! The chairbows look nice but remember that the chairs don't look like that at RPRM. Katie- I didn't realize that you've been in contact with Ael already! I must have missed that somehow. WOW, i'm right behind you!! When did she contact you? Grad school girls- what are you studying? I'm finishing my pharmacy degree this june, yay! MrsMarch4- i'm not sure about getting the live music for other parts of the night. I wanted the band for the cocktail hour so i will look into it. I know that they charge for 45 min so having them at the reception could get very expensive very quickly. -
FI ordered a suit from StudioSuits.com (i found out about it on this forum) and it truly came out wonderful! He ordered it Jan 3 and had it in his hands ~Jan 23. Not bad, 20 days for a custom made, beige linen, $99 suit! So, if anyone's still in need of wedding attire it's not to late!

FI and his dudes are going up to Windsor (canada!) for a weekend for his bachelor party. I'm trying to organize a cocktail night for my party... we have a cooking school that offers "girls guide to cocktails" where everyone gets their own shakers and learns to make drinks. sounds like fun! more my style than a night of tiaras, sashes and penis straws, hehe

We're getting legally married at home a few weeks before going to Mexico. I don't care to be secretive about it, i'm just not making a big deal about it. BUT I see it as a great way to "celebrate" with the important people who aren't traveling to Mexico with us- FI's grandpa... he's not coming to MX but i know it'll be special for him to come to the court house and out to dinner afterwords. Does anyone know the specifics of doing the legal parts locally- do you have to make an appointment in advance? Anything you have to do or can you just show up the day you want to do it?

I'm so sorry to hear all this. I know you wouldn't wish this on anyone and i'm sorry you're going through this yourself. sending major hugs your way -

Does anyone know what is the turnaround time from the day you order it until it arrives at your door? -

I am getting excited with all this OOT talk and want to start my shopping but I am insisting I wait until my RSVP date. I want to put together a list of things to buy so I can do it right when my numbers solidify. Here's my list: Raffia Fans (from oriental trading co) Keycard holders & wrist coils (online? anyone have suggestions?) Bubba Keg mugs Pashminas and Something for guys (any ideas) Welcome to Mexico brochure (i'll have to make it on vistaprint. need to find a good template!) First aid kit: tylenol, aloe, hand sanitizer, band aids, tums I want to take a trip to Target or Dollar Store and hope to find a few additions to add in. I haven't thought much about the actual bag I'll be putting things in...

A question about rings...
KimmyG replied to VA_Bride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I figure that the ring is bound to get scratched over time anyway, so I don't worry about scratches from leaving it on. As mentioned above, the safest place for the ring is on your finger! Times I do take it off... cleaning with harsh chemicals, swimming, when im cleaning it. that's about it. I went on a cruise with girlfriends last year and bought a fake e-ring from Claire's to take with me (and left the real one home)... I didn't want to worry about losing the ring in the sand/ocean, but I also didn't want to appear single, so the fake worked great! -

Katrina, welcome to our thread! I think the price depends a lot on where you're flying from. For us (coming from Cincinnati) it seems like a 3-night trip (Thurs-Sun) is about $850, 4-nights is about $1200. I'm not sure about 5-nights but it's definitely more than $1000/person/including flight&insurance. With that in mind, it's also the nicest resort in the area and you won't be dissapointed. You don't want to stay at a cheaper resort and have everyone look at the amazing resort next door and wonder why they aren't staying there! -
I'm trying to keep things as low-stress as possible... not bothering with a seating chart (since i know nothing about the tables/setup at our resort), not doing favors (just OOT bags and marraccas once we get to MX), and not doing a program for the ceremony. I'd like to do a welcome brochure and list with everyone's name and room number but those are just going to have to be last minute things, i suppose. I'm also trying to keep calm with the whole RSVP thing and assume that if I haven't heard a peep from someone that means they're not coming. Of course I may be wrong, but I'm assuming most people who booked their trip would be excited enough to let us know! If they're rude enough to show up without RSVPing then they don't get an OOT bag hehe

Hi everyone! I'm starting to get antsy bc i don't have any plans for a BD shoot but it's something I definitely want to do! Erin, I wish I could have made it happen when you were getting yours done, it would have been a blast to do it together. This is the first time i feel like i'm on a mega time crunch with the wedding. It's always seemed so far away until now! We received our first physical wedding gift today- a copper frying pan. It's nice, but it was pretty funny opening the box and finding a frying pan. Somehow I feel like I should be a bit more excited about wedding gifts? Don't tell the sender Bed Bath & Beyond lets you return gifts for cash but DF is way opposed to this- he thinks it's being deceptive! I think I'd rather have a new TV fund/house fund than a frying pan.... hehe

RPRM vs RiuMexico: i heard the same things that were mentioned above- RPRM is newer, nicer, and not much more expensive. Add in the gazebo and it makes for an easy wedding decision! Wristbands- hadn't even crossed my mind! What color are they? If they're white i don't mind if everyone leaves them on. I don't remember them from any photos! Booking- we booked with Riu as soon as we knew our date, then emailed them saying we weren't ready to book the room yet... they gave us the okay and just said to get back to them when we had our reservation... so get in touch with them and don't worry about the 60 day limit!! -
We mailed our message-in-a-bottle invites on Saturday and 2 people let me know that they received them today already, yay!! I hope this gets people booking :-) Single digits chicas!!!

KimmyG replied to Jaime's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Our invitations are FINALLY in the mail!! What a project... we did Message-in-a-bottle invites by buying the materials online and assembling them ourselves (with lots of help), and it's nice to have them shipped off We're doing electronic RSVP (on our wedding website) with a deadline of Jan 29, I hope people actually do it. That'll put us right at the 2 month mark to know our guest count when Riu wedding coordinators come knocking! FI ordered his suit last night from Studio Suits.com, I'm keeping my fingers crossed we took his measurements right! Happy New Year everyone! -

Plus, Jan 29 sounds way earlier than Feb 1 I don't think there's any prob having an earlier RSVP for a destination wedding. You're right- they should know if they're coming or not, by then! -

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!!!!! Does anyone know, Is there free wireless internet at the RPRM? -
Wow I really like the picture of Petals' cake... beautiful with the purple flowers! I hear RPRM (my resort) isn't known for their cakes, but the other desserts are pretty impressive.

Hi everyone! I'm pretty far behind on planning.... in the process of getting out invitations and working out photographer; had first dress fitting, but that's all ive got under my belt! Busy career time right now... I'd like to start gathering OOT ingredients but i'm low on funds and on storage space in the apartment! I'd also like to start our registries so we can add the links to our webpage. Is anyone doing a honeymoon registry??

RIU RM Palace Brides??
KimmyG replied to Jaime's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Another question!! Do people "fight" for beach chairs or were there more than enough for everybody? I know at some resorts people save chairs by putting out towels very early so the late risers don't get a lounge chair! I don't plan on waking up early on my honeymoon so i figured i better know in advance!
