Glad to see everyone is doing fairly well! I miss this board a lot! Not sure who remembers me--I was supposed to get married in JA in October...but found out I was pregnant in March and had to cancel all my plans. My wedding is next Sunday!!! I can't believe how quickly it snuck up on me. I can't wait to hear all about your fabulous Jamaican weddings and I hope that one day I'll be able to make my way to Jamaica!
-
Ladies, it looks like after planning two weddings (one in my home state and then of course Jamaica) that I'll actually have to plan another different wedding. We found out that I'm pregnant yesterday! We will be due two weeks after our original wedding date--November 18th. So obviously no flying for me. We are going to move everything up and keep it local instead.--probably within the next two months. I'll definitely still keep up with you ladies and I can't wait to see pictures from your lovely days!

I'm still debating on doing invitations. I'm thinking it's not worth the money as we have invited by phone calls everyone and confirmed their arrival. Pretty much 99% of the people going are super close family/friends so I see and talk to them every single day. We are going the Ipod Route---so I'll definitely need to add that to my list--we need to load all the songs...thanks for the reminder! Does anyone know if the resort has a cake cutter/server? Or do we need to provide that? I don't really need anything special to remember the day or anything like that. HA! Completely forgot about the rings! Adding thank you cards and honeymoon plans to my list also. We weren't originally going to have a honeymoon really. We were just going to come back home and hang out. But his family just generously gave us a large amount of money and the use of their timeshare...soo woohoo! We are getting a honeymoon now! This thread has been dying down a bit---Let us know how everyone is doing and what stage in planning you are at.

My wedding went from 17-20 people to just 13-14 people total (including me and my fiance). I was a little sad about it, but I keep thinking of the good things. This is really lowering the cost of everything. Less tables = less centerpieces/linens. Less people = Less for the cost of shuttles. Less people = less for the rooms. If I just think of the good things, then I don't have to think about all the people I love that aren't attending one of the biggest days of my life. Here's a list of things I'm focusing on for the wedding (let me know if I'm forgetting something). Cake and cake table decorations Reception Centerpieces Ceremony Decorations Wedding Dress--Shoes, accessories Groom and Groomsmen outfits Bridesmaid dress My bouquet--BM Bouquet Flights Passports Sending off info to the resort to make everything legal Linen Chairs Tables Hair/Makeup Reception Decorations Clothes for the trip Rehearsal Dinner Restaurant--not 100% settled on Glistening Waters Reception Food Vows Shuttle for guests to/from airport to resort and for the rehearsal dinner Picture Frame for Guests to Sign Possibly Welcome Bags Another Excursion outside of the rehearsal dinner. Let me know what else I need to do!

Caves versus Tensing Pen or somewhere else?
taovandel replied to futurerana's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
I've seen lovely pictures of couples getting married by themselves and the bride was in a dress and veil and everything. I see nothing wrong with the idea of it and would go that route if I could only convince my fiance to do it! -
I received pictures of the chairs... There were three pictures... One was a metal chair (This is the chair that the chair covers would go on)--They look like your standard metal chairs (remind me cafeteria chairs or something--or the ones that wrestlers hit each other with! lol!) Then they have white wooden chairs (The type you normally see at destination weddings--that you can attach things to the side of the chair). And then they had like plastic lawn chairs (Looked really cheapy). I'm going with the white wooden chairs--they looked really nice. I have no idea how to attach pictures. So I'm no help!

We aren't really doing a honeymoon, we are just going to come home and hang out like normal (we both are complete homebodies--we figure we could go somewhere later). I emailed Kerry and she said that they have a ladder and access to cliff dive now (I specifically said access that isn't on another property--Tensing Pen). So it looks like they now have their own access. They made these new little sub folders---I figured out where the thread went.
-
Did anyone else have a problem finding the thread? I had to do a search to find the thread---it disappeared! I think I do my best work when I'm stressed...so I think I'll be good...hopefully my guests won't mind a very busy first day.

It will be a combo rehearsal/Welcome dinner I guess. I'm a bit worried that I'll be rushed my first day there---We arrive in Mo Bay around 11ish--get to the resort around 1:30ish. I wonder how much time I'll have to meet with Kerry/Linus and do the rehearsal. Then head out for dinner. We are only in Jamaica from October 28-31st...we wanted to get married after 24 hours so we could have time to enjoy the place instead of being stressed out with the wedding. Now I'm wondering if I should push it back a day...what do you ladies think? Do you think everything will be fine with just a few hours between when we arrive and the rehearsal starts? I was hoping the email contact would get better when the date is closer so pretty much everything would be in place. And it would just be a matter of knowing where to enter and where to stand---ya know?

I'm about 90% sure I'm doing the rehearsal dinner at Glistening Waters. It's a restaurant about 1 1/2 hours away from the resort (that's the only negative I could find so far) But they offer transportation. They serve a huge range of food and it's right on a marina. The best part is---they offer boat rides out to the Luminous Lagoon. Have you guys looked at that? It looks so amazing! Check out the glisteningwaters.com website for more info on the lagoon with pictures . Food ranges from like $6.00 for a hamburger to $34 for a seafood platter. So I think it's very reasonably priced. The transport and boat ride are about $40.00 per person and you get 1 free rum (or virgin) punch on the boat ride. So woohoo! Even if every guest eats the most expensive item on the menu it's still cheaper then eating at the resort (and there is no way that everyone would eat the seafood platter).

I'm on your mom's side. I don't think it's worth the hassle to pack everything up and bring it with me. I'd freak out if I forgot something or what if it gets lost in baggage transfers. I'd rather just pay someone else to do all the work. The only thing I'll probably be bringing is the tablecloths for the reception (I don't want plain white for that--and it'll only be like 2) and maybe some raffia fans for the wedding ceremony for the guests. Stuff that I won't be too upset about if something were to be lost or forgotten. I'm narrowing in on a rehearsal dinner site! I'm getting excited!

Waiting period to get married?
taovandel replied to mellibean's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
My coordinator said 24 hours. I'm assuming they would say 48 just because it gives them more time to coordinate everything with you without rushing. -
Is anyone doing any excursions? I have one free day where we can. I was thinking of doing Glistening Waters through Talk of the Town tours. It looks fascinating to me. Or maybe bamboo rafting.
-
omg! 2 months and 22 days til your wedding claudette! That's crazy. How much do you have left to do?
-
I emailed Kerry a few minutes ago---but figured you girls might have an answer also. Can you mix and match the food packages? I like pretty much everything from package two but I wanted to put in some stuff from package 1 and 3 also. I'm really hoping I can do that.
-
I just created a compilation email for the FI to see some ideas for the wedding. It got me soooo excited for the wedding! I can't wait. 8 months and 1 day to go (243 days!)
-
I got a few different ones from the one I saw before (or else my computer went wonky and only showed me a few of them)
-
I received some awesome pictures from Randy, finally. The place looks fantastic!
-
Oh no! I'll never see my FI now with the computer in the room! I've been looking at dresses and I'm definitely trying to keep the cost down as much as possible. Under 600 for the dress and accessories. Thankfully a lot of my favorite designers also make destination dresses that are way cheaper then their main line.
-
Ahhh! We dropped off to the second page! I've been looking at pictures of wedding dresses lately. I'm getting excited for when I go finally start trying on dresses. What dresses have you guys decided on?
-
Thanks for the pictures. They look gorgeous but I much prefer seeing the pictures from Jennifer and the ones posted on Tripadvisor as they aren't done in a "professional-selective angled" kind of way. Jennifer's pictures and the ones on TA still show off the beauty of the resort without being overkill. Thanks again!

I didn't receive them....I'd love to see them. [email protected]

mmm, that sounds delicious--I love mango! You could still go to a local bakery and ask for those flavors just to make sure you do like the flavor together. It probably won't be the exact same as what is made in Jamaica but you should be able to get a general idea if you like it. I haven't even thought of dress shopping yet. I've casually looked but I've not even thought of trying the dresses on.

Congrats on booking. Thanks have definitely gotten better with replies from Kerry. I'm really not stressing out like I was before---I definitely should thank you for helping with that! As for the cake---Margaret Myrie ([email protected]) has been a huge help in picking out flavors. http://media.theknot.com/ImageStage/...arge_image.jpg This is the cake the fiance and I loved. She then sent us a list of flavors: As for flavours, My signiture cakes are Tropical fantasy. a light banana/pineapple cake with coconut and coconut rum cream filling. or Amerito Orange with filling, The other flavors are carrot (with coconut and pineapple in the mix) with cream cheese filling and frosting, vanella with cream filling or your choice of filling, Chocolate with cholcolate filling and and obtion of raspberry filling (can) Jamaican traditional rum/fruit (raisen, cherries prune etc) or vanella rum with rum cream filling, strawberry, lemon etc or your creations I'm going with a vanilla rum icing with a chocolate cake with chocolate filling. We asked first if those flavors would be good together and she suggested some ideas but said that those flavors would work well together. She takes her deposit 30 days before the wedding (50% deposit). I'm so happy to get to check something off my to-do list for the wedding. Now on to flowers---I'm soooo picky! I'm sure I'm driving them (Rose at floralfantasiesjamaica.com) crazy with all my questions. Is anyone doing welcome baskets for the Guests? I was thinking of doing it--if it's in my budget. They aren't that expensive on floralfantasiesjamaica.com's website.

She keeps saying I'm okay to get the $210.00 cake. I'm just trying to get her to say that there is no minimum for the cake. I don't want to show up and be surprised by the extra charge. I want it in writing. I'll definitely let everyone know what happens with the cake.
