My optimism didn't pay off!!!! $#&? Transat!!!
Chanti replied to Chanti's topic in Just venting or funnies
I refuse to change the resort, we've put so much time and effort into organizing the wedding. I'm viewing it now as an opportunity to travel with the majority of our guests to get there, and to have a "real" honeymoon week after everyone else leaves! I just hope the resort can accomodate our change... -
I was reasonable amongst this whole swine flu nightmare, optimistic that Transat would NOT extend it's "not flying to Mexico" beyond June 1st, especially given that things seem to be quieting down there... Just got an email from my TA informing me that Transat has cancelled all of it's flights up until and including June 22nd. We were supposed to leave June 20th, for a nice week of relaxation, before our guests join us June 26th. Well, now our guests have flights there and WE DON'T!!! Grrrr..... On the bright side, it appears there is still space on the June 26th flight, so as long as Dreams Tulum can accomodate us from June 26th to July 10th (instead of June 20th to July 4th) we'll be OK. I just want to GET THERE, get married and have a relaxing and fun holiday... Is that too much to ask for? Wow, I'm sooooo frustrated... Thanks for the opportunity to vent, I'm sure this will affect more Canadian brides that were striving to remain optimistic in the midst of this airline fiasco... Chantal

Denise L's Dreams Tulum Wedding Review - April 10, 2009
Chanti replied to Denise L's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Denise, thank you so much for your review! Now I'm even more excited for our wedding, we leave June 20th!!! Suzanne, you're big day is right after mine :-) We'll probably run into each other!!! Chantal -
Hi Tamasin, I'm really sorry to hear about what you are going through. My fiancé got laid off in January, 6 weeks after we decided we were doing a destination wedding. In the end I'm glad we are doing this, it will end up cheaper than if we had had a wedding here. He still hasn't found a job, but is doing a lot of the organizing for the wedding, so it has been a big help. Best of luck, and PM me if you would like to chat more. Chantal

Kits55 Pro Pic Teasers
Chanti replied to Kits55's topic in Post your Destination Wedding & Engagement Pictures!
Hey Kelly, these are amazing!!! I love the underwater shots. Curious, what did you do for make-up for your TTD session, knowing there would be these water shots? -
Situation reversed in our case: I am the workaholic! Bring home work in the evenings and need to do at least 4-6 hours every weekend. Answer all emails, any time of day. BUT, I will be leaving my blackberry behind when we leave on June 20th. I need a real holiday and I am the first to recognize this!

LOL mummergirl, I agree!!! I'm actually starting to get all excited again about leaving for our 2 week weddingmoon! I'm glad this seems to be blowing over (knock on wood) and that I can enjoy the wedding planning part of it again... I'm still a bit scared that something will go wrong and feel horrible for the brides who's plans were drastically altered, but I'm trying to be more optimistic...

KLila, we're of the same mind-set. No change of plans at all, and I'm getting super excited to leave! I've started packing although we only fly out June 20th :-) Have a SUPERB wedding and a wonderful, relaxing time!!!

Dreams425 Dreams Tulum Review 4/25/09
Chanti replied to Dreams425's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Wow, what a great review!!! Thank you so much, you have reassured me :-) Quick question, when you say you didn't have to pay to set up the sound system for the ceremony, did you bring your own or did you use the resort's? They want to charge us $150 USD for setting up their sound system for the ceremony, and then $325 USD for setting it up at the reception: because of this, we have just bought a portable iPod docking station.... Gorgeous pictures by the way, you look absolutely stunning!!!! -
We'll be in Tulum 14 days: it is a weddingmoon :-) We liked the idea of relaxing and staying in the same place... Alone for the first week, then being joined by our guests for the wedding and post-wedding celebrations. I'm very excited, we're leaving June 20th so it's fast approaching!!!
-
Not cancelling, wedding is June 29th, leaving June 20th for Tulum and getting excited!!!! All our guests are supportive and no one has decided to cancel so we're lucky... To all those who decide to cancel or switch, good luck, I wish you all the best :-)

I remember reading somewhere in this thread that if you upgrade your room to OceanFront or better, you have access to some sort of lounge? Does anyone know what I'm talking about or did I dream I read this? We have 3 hours between cocktail party and the start of dinner, so we're looking to have a Wii Mario Kart party. If indeed this lounge exists I'd like to see about booking it so that we can play this video game as a team against our guests while we wait. Pretty cheesey, but our first date after meeting on eHarmony was to meet online and play Mario Kart together :-)

Post your Hair and makeup ideas
Chanti replied to EDYTA's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Oooh, I love this messy chignon look!!!! I don't have many ideas so this is a great resource for me! -
Hi all, I just realized I have no clue what to do with my hair for the wedding... I've looked at a few web sites but nothing really stands out at me. I was thinking of half up, half down, but now I'm worried that my neck will be really hot given the ceremony time of noon in Mexico! Does anyone know of good web sites, or have suggestions? Thanks!!!

Great thread! Also looking for something similar, and if possible, a station in which you can plug in a microphone...

Hi everyone, as I have a June wedding planned in Mexico, I have been following this issue closely. I have been asked to do a camera interview for CBC about how this whole swine flu story is affecting destination weddings for Canadians. Someone found out that I am a physician planning a DW so wanted my perspective! Right now in Canada, airlines and tour companies are no longer flying there for May, but are expected to resume operations in June. Rerouting to a different resort in a different country is possible, but I recognize that to plan a wedding with 1 week notice at a new resort is not an easy task!!! Many of us have been planning our big day for months, and despite the airlines being willing to reroute your flights, there are still an incredible amount of issues and work to deal with :-( There is no travel ban from the Canadian government. I think it's also important to keep in mind what so many of you have already mentioned: seasonal flu (i.e. influenza) kills a lot of people every year in Canada and the US (mostly infants, the elderly and the immunocompromised) AND the swine flu does respond to medications, which is different from the whole SARS/Ebola virus story. It is a bit concerning that the casualties so far have been healthy, young individuals, but despite this, I do feel that this is somewhat being blown out of proportion, and we are lucky that so far our guests recognizing this. All we can do is wait: a lot can change (in either direction) in a few days when we're dealing with infectious diseases! A lot of it will depend on the position of the WHO. If they upgrade to a 5 from the current 4, then things will likely get worse before they get better... On the other hand, officials in Mexico City are stating that the situation seems to be stabilizing RE: deaths and presumed infected individuals - maybe (knock on wood) this is a sign that things are taking a turn for the best? I'm really glad I have this forum to turn to: makes me realize that I am not alone in my concerns/fears/stress, and that we are here to support each other in situations like these!

Kara, my heart goes out to you... Have you looked into the possibility of changing the destination? I know Sunquest is offering switches to affected travellers, maybe you can find a resort in Cuba/Dominican/Jamaica/etc... that has a day available for a wedding? I really hope things work out!!! I'm keeping a close eye on the situation too since we're supposed to be leaving on June 20th for Mexico...

I'm been running 2 miles minimum at least 5 days a week since 3 weeks and this has helped me lose weight! I think my initial goal of 105 for my height (almost 5'2") is unrealistic so I've reset a new goal of 108, I'm only 2.8 lbs away from it as of this morning!!! My boudoir photo session is tomorrow, I was hoping to be 110 by then... Off to exercise I go, will do my circuit training :-)
-
I ran for 3.1 miles on the treadmill and then did a 75 minute hatha yoga class last night. Tonight I'm planning on trying to make it to 4 miles (my treadmill keeps shutting itself off anytime after 30 minutes lately!) and will do my circuit training routing.

I ran 3 miles yesterday on my treadmill and walked to 3.4 miles as cooldown. So far, so good with the knee. I think I was just being overly cautious!
