I don't have the numbers b/c I have always stayed in all-inclusives in Cancun - but we have gone out to dinner off the resort and I thought the prices were comparable to NYC prices. So, if people think they will eat cheaply there, that is definitely not the case. Drinks were at least $10 per drink and all-you-drink clubs were in the $30s. When we did take a cab, it was $20 to go to somewhere nearby on the strip.

Problems with Locals?
DGG replied to Outdoor_girl1010's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
You can just tell them to stay on the resort then. Those that want to explore on their own can, but if other people are worried, they can just stay at the resort or only go on organized excursions.. Your wedding is in DR, right? When we went to DR for a wedding (one of our friends is from there and has a lot of family) - she told us not to go off on our own at all and her family's drivers took us everywhere and said not to take cabs.. so I was a little concerned that the "locals" were warning us about taxis or other people.. But, I think they were just worried and were extra cautious b/c they didn't want something happening to their guests in their country. And tourists always stand out and are a draw for those looking for trouble. I mean, I love NYC and feel perfectly safe there on my own, but if my friend from another country (or even state) came to visit me here, I wouldn't want them wandering around on their own.. So no matter where you are, you have to be cautious and use commonsense.. but if people are so worried, they can just stay and enjoy the resort.. -
To Veil or Not to Veil??
DGG replied to Lilpaisley's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
If you had wanted the veil, you should definitely wear it. If it is a single layer veil, you should be able to see the back detailing through it. Your friend did a lot for you making the dress and you should appreciate that - but it is YOUR wedding and if that makes you feel like a bride, then I say wear it. When else in your life will you wear a veil? Just make sure to take some pictures without it - especially from the back - that should make your friend happy -

What OOT bag to pick!
DGG replied to binzer's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I just ordered my bags off Amazon - they were 5 or 6 bags (depending on color) for $9.95. I think each order comes with a free tote bag. They come in a variety of colors and you can order either a mixed pack or a pack of a single color. They look nice online - I can post a review when I get them. here's the link - Amazon.com: Reusable Grocery Tote Bag Lavander 5 Pack: Everything Else -

Beach wedding isle

Here was my idea - I can't decide if I love it or if it's crazy - I like how the aisles where the line the sides with flowers, but flowers are ridiculously expensive at my resort - so I though to line the sides of the aisles with white starfish. You can order them online for about 50-60 cents each and they supposedly don't break easily.. then I am going to have rose petals sprinkled down the aisle.. What do you think of the starfish borders -

I was looking at similar bags on Amazon - here are some links to ones I had it narrowed down to. I think I'll need about 40 bags, but a lot of the wholesale places start at 50. By any chance, are you getting married in the Bahamas? That was all I wanted to write on the bags so people could use them again and not have our names all over it.. I ordered several samples of the ones from cheaptotes and I thought they were somewhat flimsy and looked sort of cheap. The dark blue and teal colors looked better. The lavender color looked really cheap. OOT bag welcome letter
DGG replied to RRsmile's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
My idea was I was going to make a postcard from vistaprint and include some last minute info for wedding events - my plan is to sent it several weeks before the wedding. I though it would be cute and get people excited for the wedding.. and they keep having free offers, so I'm hoping to get it for free (or at least some of it free because you have to pay to add color and stuff like that). -
It says on one of the websites that you should spray with waterproofing spray to have it keep the color in case they get wet at all - but if you waterproof it, then you can't re-dye it, if that's a concern.. google dye-able wedding shoes and there are tons of sites..

I like the first amazon one - the white with black.. how much does that one cost? Does the last amazon one come in other colors? I think it's cute, but you're right - I don't know if a lot of other people would like it.. I've been having the same trouble picking bags.. I just can't decide either - I don't know if it's worth spending so much more money or if we should go with the cheaptotes bags?? -
We are using miles to upgrade ourselves to first class basically just for that reason. We almost have enough miles now, but FI said I should book just one first class ticket so I can carry my dress on - he said he doesn't care where he sits, so he'll sit in coach - hahaha, how awful would that be of me what a way to fly to our wedding

I am getting married on Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas and you can have a Catholic wedding there as well. For Roman Catholic weddings, it has to be in a church - I had thought this rule was relaxed, but apparently not. I know someone who got married in Puerto Rico by a Catholic priest - it was a regular wedding, but the Church in the US told them they have to renew their vows in a church for it to be recognized. In the Bahamas, we could only find a RC priest that will marry us inside of a church, but at least we won't have to renew our vows for our marriage to count in the eyes of the Church.

please help with colors - Lilac and ???
DGG replied to DGG's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Thanks for the ideas - do you think it would look okay with darker purple tablecovers (i was going to get organza tablecovers so it would be a little sheer over the white tablecloths) with the lavender hydrangea/white rose flowers and then lavender chair tiebacks? -
Hi! So far our only wedding color is lilac - my bridesmaids' dresses are a light lilac color. I was thinking a baby blue might complement that. But here's the issue - we are having our reception on the lawn (next to the beach) and for our centerpieces, we are actually going to be using the bridemaid's bouquet's but the wedding planner is going to open them up (maybe add some more roses I'm not sure) - the bouquets are white roses with lavender-colored hydrangeas which will then be in a vase lined with green leaves. So for the table cover and tie-backs, what color should I use? For the table cover, I wanted to put a colored organza over the white tablecloth - but if we use lilac, will the bridesmaid's blend into the table. Or if we use baby blue, will it look like the centerpieces don't match the table?? Should I use the same color for tie-backs? I like the look of both the blue and lilac tie-backs, but will the lilac look bad on the grass? I know I'm obsessing over details - but please share your ideas

organza for beach chairs question?
DGG replied to latinalocany's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I emailed the company and they sent me a response saying 50 chair covers will weight about 30 pounds - in case anyone else is interested -
I'm getting married in the Bahamas too - on Grand Bahama Island.. One place you should check out is Bahama Beach Club - it's on one of the out islands, so a little harder to get to, but it looks so beautiful and got really good reviews. The main reason I chose against it was because it's on an out-island it's a little harder to get to and we are having at least 40-50 people coming so that was more of a factor for me.. For your small group, you should definitely check it out..

organza for beach chairs question?
DGG replied to latinalocany's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I have a question for those of you who brought the chair sashes down - Did you pack them in your luggage? If so, about how heavy were they? I'd need about 50, so I don't want to go over-weight on my baggage - I can divide them up if I need to, but I want to know if this is reasonable... Also, did anyone order chair covers from them? I'm guessing they're a lot heavier.. -

Samantha, I agree - I was sooo angry.. When you are spending so much money at a place, that's the least they can do. I was not going to pay money to help me decide how I would spend more money there... I hope it works out for you in the end too..
