So we did end up staying here for a week of our honeymoon. We had a great time, but I don't know if I would recommend staying there. We had stayed at Sandals in Jamaica before and it seemed like the service/attitude was much better in Jamaica. Most of the guests agreed that the service was slacking - apparently, they fired over half of the staff in the last few months and it definitely seemed like they could use more bartenders, etc. Some of the staff were great, but many just seemed overworked. We splurged on the butler service - a definite waste of money for us. We could never find our butler and anytime we asked for reservations, it was like pulling teeth.. but we met some of the other butlers who seemed amazing, so I think it was just her.. and the food at Gordon's (butler service only) was amazing . As for the nightlife, they have activities every night, but it isn't a great party scene - but definitely try to get a fire pit - they have firepits with a couch/bed next to it and a saxophone plays every night for an hour - very romantic . If you get there early, you can lie down and watch the sun set before the fires are on.. One other recommendation - if you go to the other island, wear lots of bug spray!!! Even during the daytime! The other island has some beautiful views and there are lots of private areas you can find on your own... definitely nice for a honeymoon .

Try RK Bridal - it can get crazy at times but they have discounted dresses and you can get a great deal. It's on 39th btwn 9th and 10th. You don't need an appointment but get there early and try to go on a weekday b/c the weekend can be crazy. Also - bridal garden (WeddingDay) it's on 21st btwn 5th and 6th. It's a somewhat small place but they have high-priced top designer dresses that are donated and sold at a greatly reduced price. And, the money you pay for the dress goes to a charity - I forget the details but you can check our their website. You definitely need an appt so call first (212) 252-0661.

I am also selling my wedding dress - It is an Alfred Angelo size 6, but I had it tailored down to fit me - I wear about a size 4 street clothes and am 5'3" (but was tailored with heels). It is white with an organza material, some crinolin in the skirt (not much) - it is pretty lightweight feeling. The dress originally had a very short train, but I had it taken off. There is beading along the top, some at the waist, and along the zipper on the back. I wore it for less than 1 hour in a church, it was my 2nd dress - so I wore the other dress for the rest. It is essentially in perfect condition and I can have it dry-cleaned before sending it out. If anyone is interested, make an offer . I can also send more pictures if you want.

I don't think I'm getting my parents anything for my wedding day. I have so much to worry about already. We are paying for the wedding ourselves and have done almost all of the planning ourselves - I definitely appreciate my parents and all they have done for me my entire life, but I don't really understand why I need to give them a gift on my wedding day. I am going to make them albums of pictures after the wedding - but I already have too much to worry about getting done before the wedding... If your parents are paying for your wedding or did most of the planning, then I think you should get them a thank you gift for that - otherwise, I just don't think its needed..

Newly Divorced Parents, Dad's new girlfriend=DRAMA!

Good luck talking to your father. I am going through sort of similar stuff with my dad - hopefully your dad will handle it well and will understand. I have been fighting with my dad about this stuff and it really hurts to have my father not thinking of me more at my wedding. It is not about your dad or who HE wants there - it is Your and FI's day and no one should be there that you are not comfortable with. I hope everything goes well with talking to your dad. -
I am happy you are both continuing your wedding. This whole thing is blown way out of proportion. It is the flu - we have all had the flu and survived... yes, the flu does kill thousands of people each year but not otherwise healthy people... and we don't lock ourselves in the house all winter b/c there is flu going around. and this is just another strain of the same flu virus we have all had in the past.. I feel so bad for all the brides whose wedding aren't happening because of this ... I think you are both making the right decision and will have an amazing time still.. If you want, maybe ask your doctor for a TamiFlu prescription to take with you just in case anyone does get sick - you need to start TamiFlu within 48 hours of symptoms so you should have it with you already.. not that I think you need it, but it would make me feel better to have on hand in case anyone does get sick...

I feel so bad for you.. This is all so silly though if you ask me - it is the flu, we have all had the flu probably multiple times and are fine...The flu killed ppl in Mexico city b/c they didn't have access to healthcare and it is an overcrowded city... yes, the flu can kill people but you are at risk of it every winter and people don't lock themselves in the house all winter b/c they might get the flu... I am so sorry all of this media hype and nonsense has ruined your wedding.. I know nothing I can say can make this better, but at least you can still find someway to get married and will have a great husband... yes the wedding is important, but it's only the start to the rest of your life.. so try to focus on that..

I bought some when I was there and it is good coffee, but not cheap. Personally, I don't think it is worth it for your AHR b/c people won't really enjoy it and may not even notice since they'll be eating dessert, talking, etc. Buy some and share it with your friends/family at home when they can enjoy expensive quality coffee...

I also use Crest Whitestrips and think they work well. I tried the GoSmile whitening system and didn't think it was worth the extra $. The GoSmile touchup tubes are amazing though - they smell little packages for about $5 I think. You can carry it in your purse and then wipe/brush (it has a little sponge tip) your teeth immediately after drinking coffee/wine or before taking photos and it makes them look really shiny white. I am definitely going to use it throughout the evening at my wedding. My FI did Zoom - it's an in-office 1 hour whitening.. his teeth are so much whiter and he looks really good but he was in a lot of pain and couldn't eat much for a few days. He said it was definitely not worth the pain (nevermind the money ). So I suggest try the whitestrips first - my teeth are still whiter than his but I'm a little obsessive about it

We did things sort of backwards too - we had dated for 9 years and spoke about getting married "some day" for a long time. After we were finally done with our schooling/training and had real jobs, we finally decided this past fall we were ready. So we sort of just had the same talk and sort of set a date and began planning the wedding. I also wanted to help pick out my ring (he knows how picky I am so he was happy about that) - and we looked for a ring for several months. We had our resort booked, contract signed, some guests booked, and I think our photographer booked before I actually had a ring I did tell him I wanted a real proposal and he had to surprise me still - and he did He planned a fake proposal first with a hot air balloon ride, romantic dinner - then nothing! Then a few days later we had a nice dinner and he surprised me with a dozen roses and had a really sweet speech prepared - it was really romantic even it was silly b/c we had already done so much for our wedding .. So I think you are engaged but if you still want the proposal tell him that

I know exactly how you feel!!! I am sort of in the same boat - I guess I liked my dress when I ordered it - I thought I'm just not the type of person to go crazy about a dress. So I remember I thought the dress was pretty and seemed good for a DW so I ordered it - I got it in about 2 months ago and wanted to cry when it finally came in and I tried it on. It was a nice dress and all, but I didn't feel bridal at all. So I actually ordered another dress online which was a complete gamble - it took about a month to come in and when I tried it on I actually loved it and sort of wanted to cry b/c I really liked it but now have no idea what to do. Sort of like you, my aunt bought my dress (she has no children) and even though she didn't come pick it out I sent her a picture of it.. and now I don't know what to do? My new dress is big and poofy and has a decent train so I completely want to wear it on the beach for the ceremony but it might be too much for the reception. If i bought the other one myself, I could wear both - but isn't that pretty rude to my aunt? I could just wear the new one, but I think I will get so hot and it will be sort of hard to dance with it bustled... so now I'm still clueless..

I am getting married at Old Bahama Bay on Grand Bahama Island.. I am excited about my wedding - but at least so far I wouldn't recommend it. Their wedding planner is really slow and they keep adding on huge fees so I feel like we're being ripped off a lot. I am also coming for Philly/NY area - there used to be a lot of direct flights to Grand Bahama Island but now there is only 1-2 from Philly, none from NY at least on our date. I think you should think about Nassau - flights are a lot cheaper and there are a lot more direct flights.. Or try to enter the win a free bahama wedding - there's another thread about it or you can find it at the OBB website Old Bahama Bay Luxury Oceanfront Resort in the Bahamas I wish I could have entered it! Good luck with planning!

If no one here is interested in my dress - do any of you have any suggestions of where else I can try to sell it? It is brand new and really is a nice dress so I would really like to sell it to someone... price is negotiable

We discussed it and decided we are not giving gifts. We are already spending so much as it is since we are paying for almost everything on our own. There will be so much going on that day and the day already has so much meaning, that I just don't think gifts will add that much. A nice card would mean a lot more if you ask me. -
I am selling a never-worn Alfred Angelo dress - it is a really beautiful dress and has really nice beading on the top, some at the waist, and some on the back. It has a barely there train (sweep length, I think) - which could be taken off really easily if you have it shortened.. I love the dress but decided I really wanted a train - I wanted to keep both, but the budget (or packing situation) won't allow it . It is white with an organza material, some crinolin in the skirt (not much) - it is pretty lightweight feeling.. I tried it on only once in the store and it has been hanging in the garment bag for the last few weeks. It is size 6 - I wear size 6 pants, size 4 shirt - and it fits me well- so I think pretty true to size.. I paid a little over $600 for it - would be willing to sell it for $500 OBO - I can send more pictures if anyone wants...

Not to hijack this thread, but can I ask about how much it is for a private open bar or private dinner at an AI?

I totally understand.. Our wedding is a month after yours - we set our RSVP dates early (beginning of March) knowing people wouldn't stick to it that closely.. but now it's almost a month after the date and people are still not giving us definite answers.. I can change my numbers with the resort but I wanted to have that done by now and we are ordering OOT bag stuff and flip-flop favors and that order has to be in this weekend.. so even though, I'll probably be annoyed but give in like you, but I guess they just won't get favors..

Wow you girls all look GREAT in your pictures.. you convinced me that I should try to set this up before my wedding (not much time left though ). I emailed her so we'll see Thank you for sharing the pics - you all look amazing but I don't think I would have the guts to do that
