Canada Registry-Suggestions??
sarafish81 replied to jh17's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Meghan I think Home Outfitters is great too! Definitely a store I would consider. -
Jetsbride - sorry I used to have a template on my computer but I think I may have deleted it. I "borrowed" the template from one of the other brides on this forum though and just tweaked it a bit to fit our day. If you do a search maybe you'll be able to find it. Good luck! And thanks for all the compliments, ladies!

FLip Flops for Beach Wedding????
sarafish81 replied to Taryn20's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I wore blue flip flops. It does sound strange I suppose, wearing flip flops and a wedding dress, but it just fit since it was on the beach! Whatever you decide will be fine -
Thanks ladies - I was pretty pissed off yesterday about it. Doesn't help that I am ing which makes everything that much worse. I didn't have time to go to a registry office yesterday to attempt the name change, but plan to go tonight after work. I haven't heard back from Yaly yet either regarding obtaining a correct marriage certificate. Will let you know once I know... Wish me luck tonight!

Girls, I posted this already on another thread, but I thought I should post it here too: We just received our marriage certificate today (it's been just over 4 months since our wedding) and my maiden name is spelled wrong. This is what I need to take to a registry office to change my name. DH has gone to a registry office already this morning and was told "it depends who you get" when I go with the marriage certificate to change my name. Basically, if I get a customer service agent who is lenient, they will go ahead and issue a new license for me with my married name. If not, then I have to wait to receive another certificate. When we got legally married April 17, EVERYTHING we signed was correct. Yaly is very detail-oriented. After our marriage (as best I can determine by researching the internet) the notary who performed the ceremony sent our certificate to the Canadian consulate in Havana to be processed. It was then sent back to PP and Yaly subsequently forwarded it to us. Keep in mind that we bought a house since we got married and although I called DHL (the courier company used to send us our certificate) 3 times to advise of our address change, it was being delivered to the wrong address. DH went to the DHL warehouse this a.m. to pick it up and discovered my name spelled wrong. I emailed Yaly this morning to advise her of the problem and asked her to please get back to me asap and let me know how quickly another marriage certificate can be issued. I'm guessing 4 months again. I don't think that it is Yaly's fault. It is a typo generated by the consulate's office in Havana. I guess my point is, learn from my "mistake" and consider getting legally hitched before heading to Cuba. This could potentially save you some hassle....

Well ladies I think I am going to cry. Our marriage certificate arrived today (well DH had to go pick it up as they kept delivering it to the wrong address, even though I called 3 times to advise that we moved) and my name is spelled WRONG!!!! I have no idea how long it will take to issue a new one - I'm guessing 4 months again. This was the last thing I was waiting for and was so excited to change my name in the next week. I recommend ANYONE getting married in Cuba to make it legal before you leave. Maybe this is a one-off, but it's too much.

Flower petals or bubbles???
sarafish81 replied to lrfriendly's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
We brought bubbles, and our WC gave our guests flower petals as well, so we used both! The petals were gorgeous and made for some fun photos and were great in our wedding dvd, as the videographer slowed it down at the point when our guests were throwing them at us, and the result is really magical! -
Well my WC got back to me today. She said that they did receive our marriage certificate from the consulate and it will be sent to me via DHL next week. I even got a tracking number (that hasn't yet been updated on DHL's "tracking" portion of their webpage). It is being sent to our current address (we move tomorrow), but at least I have a tracking number that I can use as a reference to contact DHL and have it re-routed.... Whew! In some ways, I wish we would have made it legal before we left.

Manitoba / Winnipeg girls - Post Social information here!
sarafish81 replied to Joss's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
Great idea - I'm not a Winnipeg bride, but LOVE the concept of a social! My MOH and best friend is from Winnipeg and everytime I visit her, we've always got a social to go to for someone's wedding! They are so much fun! -
For those ladies who received their marriage certificates: this may be a dumb question, but were they sent via registered mail? We are 6 days shy of the 4 months that our WC said it would take to receive ours, and are moving on Friday! We are currently renting and technically have our place till the end of the month (including our mail key) and were hoping to ask our landlords to have the new tenants keep an eye out for anything coming from Cuba, however, if one of us has to sign for it, and neither of us live there when it arrives, we may be screwed! I'm a bit stressed if you can't tell! Perhaps I could get in touch with the Canadian Consulate in Cuba and they would be able to let me know if our certificate has been processed yet Any advice?

Better late than never I suppose! I forgot I had saved this on my computer before our wedding...Mods, I hope it's ok that I post this post-wedding! Mine is not that long or super-detailed, but it gives the basics! Thanks of course to all the wonderful ladies on this forum who gave me some great tips!! The ring – well Jeff and I had a meeting with a Tacori rep from Beverly Hills back in October 2007. He was in Calgary showcasing some new rings and, by appointment, I tried on some gorgeous bling! Fast forward to July 2008, we are on vacation in Mexico and one night before dinner he was in such a rush to get going to the a la carte restaurant and I was like, what's the rush?? Jeez, our reservation's not for another 20 minutes! And he's telling me, come on, let's go, let's go! So I'm a bit huffy at being rushed but he gets me out the door and suggests a walk on the beach before dinner. All of a sudden, Jeff pops down on one knee, and pulls out this ring...keep in mind that I hadn’t seen it since the previous October and I honestly couldn’t remember what it looked like since I tried on so many. I was speechless! I cried of course...and he pulls out a bottle of champagne from a bag (that he had told me was carrying his nice shoes in for the a la carte) and 2 glasses and we popped the cork on the beach and toasted to each other. He brought the champagne in his suitcase from Calgary and while I was getting ready, went to the lobby bar to get a couple of glasses....one of the most romantic things he’s ever done. My ring has angel wings under the centre stone, which is awesome because I am a big believer in angels and have angels all over our house. I love it!! My dress was ordered about a month after we got engaged and got here in November (from China). I wasn’t sure what I wanted...I went in with an idea and ended up getting something I never thought I would! Isn’t that how it goes? It is a strapless, ivory, taffeta, mermaid style gown, with silver flowers embroidered throughout. I went ahead and got a veil as well, although initially I didn’t know if I would want one. The veil also has the silver flowers embroidered around the edges. I bought the dress/veil at Blissful Bridal in Calgary. Any Calgary girls out there, Tammy (the owner) is FANTASTIC! Hers was the first store we went to and we received excellent service. I would recommend her to anyone (excuse the cranky face!) My shoes are my something blue (like so many brides on here! Great idea!) I couldn’t resist these flip flops especially since they have flowers like my dress. I bought them on ebay for honestly too much money but they are my wedding shoes right Our OOT/Welcome Bags. I couldn’t pass these up since they were so cute, even though they weren’t exactly cheap ($12/ea. + shipping to Canada). I loved the fact that they were canvas beach bags since on our trip to Mexico, we found that we loved having a bag to pack our stuff in for our days on the beach (books, sunscreen, iPods, etc.), instead of having to walk back and forth to our room. Note: I did not get these personalized; this is simply the picture on the website that I ordered them from. Contents of OOT bags: flip flop cards for our welcome letter, travel and trial pack for the ladies (contains shaving cream, body wash, lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, travel toothbrush, deodorant), bath and body works anti-bac pocket size in coconut-lime verbana, flip flop floating candles, spanish phrase basics from singleserving.com, chapstick with SPF 15, Tide-to-go pen, key card/peso holders, and mouth wash. Most items from e-bay and Wal-Mart For the ceremony, bubbles and flip flop tissues (oriental trading company and ebay) Wedding Favors – beach cookie cutters (contains palm tree, sea shell, starfish and dolphin) (ebay). My only DIY projects: My luminaries made with my set of beach cookie cutters (I ordered one extra of the OOT stuff for me!) We chose blue and yellow for these and my wedding day timelines: Wedding Day Timeline:

I just saw this article on MSN: Cocaine found in Billy Mays' body | Sympatico / MSN TV Guide

Have you tried checking out tripadvisor at all? That helped us narrow down our decision to Playa Pesquero. It is indeed a large resort, however, our group was very small, only 15 people, and we ALWAYS found each other! There were a few places we ended up running into our guests - the beer gardens and the lobby coffee bar - best coffee ever! In addition, DH's mom learned at the orientation (that we missed, on account of meeting with our WC) that Playa Pesquero is one of two (I believe) resorts in Holguin that is wholly Cuban-owned. The rest are mostly owned by European countries, I believe. Us and our guests really enjoyed the resort, the beach, the people, everything! Just my two-cents.

Awesome - thanks!! Looks like I'll be making a Sephora trip in the near future!
-
Has anyone tried the eyeshadow primer from TooFaced - I believe it's called Shadow Insurance? I'd be interested in buying it if it actually works as I tend to spend too much at Sephora as well....
-
I recently got a sample from Sephora of MUFE (Makeup Forever)'s high-definition primer and really like it. It is white, but goes on clear. For our wedding, I used Lorac's Aquaprime primer (also from Sephora). It is a clear, water-based primer. I really like both.

Canadians Getting Married in Cuba - Important!!!
sarafish81 replied to Martee's topic in Cuba Weddings
Nothing has changed...DH and I had never been married before and all we needed were our passports. We brought our birth certificates just in case but were not asked for them. Super easy! -
This is considered "our" show, as DH and I have such different taste in tv LOL -- I do believe some of it is staged, but regardless, I end up getting stressed out every episode! I keep thinking, how would I react if he was in my face calling me a donkey??!

When did you know he was the one?
sarafish81 replied to *HOLLY*'s topic in Share your Wedding & Engagement Stories!
For me, it wasn't really one moment, but a series of moments. I knew that DH was the one for me when he was ok with me being me...sounds stupid but for a few years before we met, I kept trying to fit into a mold to be with the guys that I dated, and I felt like something was inherently wrong with me when I just didn't fit! Early on in our relationship, DH invited me over to his place and made me a "no-reason cake" - we decorated it with all this crazy icing and gummy bears, lit some candles and took some pictures. It was so goofy but we still do it now every once in awhile! Also early on, I had a health scare and was pretty shook up. He called me and asked me to get dressed up for dinner as he was taking me to the Calgary Tower. I'd never been there and was really excited. As we were sitting there in the revolving restaurant, we just looked into each other's eyes and all of a sudden he said "aww! You are going to fall in love with me!!" And I totally did Sounds cheesy but it was totally a moment where I was like, "yup buddy, hook, line and sinker!" -
Congratulations!! It is a great time to buy with interest rates being low and the crazy house prices of the last few years (especially in Calgary!) aren't as crazy anymore. We thought we'd wait till next year as well but just bought our first house ourselves! Best of luck with your search! There are so many options right now.

DH who is a science teacher has a no-fail way to get rid of them. He will plug both my ears, as I plug my nose and take a HUGE sip of water. The reason it works is your brain actually associates your ears and nose being plugged, together with water entering your system to drowning, and actually "resets" itself. Strange but true...
