  1. I didn't get mine steamed, so I'm not sure if the resort offers that type of service. As you need to be in Cuba for a few days prior to your wedding, I would recommend hanging your dress in the bathroom as the steam from the shower should get rid of any wrinkles... I believe you can also purchase a portable steamer to bring with you from home. The flight attendants put my dress in an overhead bin on top of some luggage and simply folded it in half once, and it was fine.
  2. Not the same one we used....if it was the same company I would have to tell you to get the away from them! I'm sorry you're dealing with this and I hope you can find the answers you are looking for. It's very frustrating to deal with this!
  3. Can I ask who you're using as your TA? We had a similar problem with our TA...numerous problems actually, and they were a company out east.
  4. My cousin is on Seasonique and really likes it. She finds that the pms she does have during the few periods in a year is milder than it used to be (which was a good thing for me to hear as I am guilty of raging pms at times!) - I personally haven't tried it and have been on marvelon for about 8 years. Perhaps once my prescription is up, I'll give it a whirl. Good luck!
  5. SuzyQ, thank you for your kind words. I hope you get in today. I just read on the Calgary Herald website that they've shut down the Avenida and Richmond Road clinics for today. My parents have been waiting in line at the Brentwood mall one for almost 4 hours now and I hope they are not turned away. Best of luck to you.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum!
  7. Thank you so much - I just want him to come home so I can hug him forever!! This just hits too close to home and for me, I'm glad I waited in the cold for 3 hours last night to get vaccinated.
  8. I'm so sorry to hear about your bad experience! Thanks for the warning. I've bought a few things on here from BDW members and those experiences were great. It's disheartening when you find out you can't trust someone!
  9. She was in her early 40's. A mom with 2 young boys. It is so devastating and unbelievable. She did have chron's (sp?) disease and I'm unsure if that was an underlying factor. I haven't heard back from DH since he called me in shock this morning.
  10. I got mine last night too. Just found out this morning that DH's good friend (the one who introduced us actually) passed away last night from H1N1. He is devastated and in shock. I wish I could give him a huge hug but he is at work and just called me to tell me.
  11. I know! They were joking on the radio this morning about how to make a few extra bucks: charge people for you to stand in line and hold a spot for them. Kind of funny but also sad. I saw an elderly couple on the news last night that were waiting forever even out in Okotoks. The man had just finished chemo and was getting the vaccine on the recommendation of his doctor. I'm glad they opened up the Olympic Oval for elderly people, pregnant women and children. If they are high risk, they should not have to stand in line for 6 hours.
  12. It is a tough decision - like everyone says, you have to weigh the pros and cons for yourself and your kids (if you have them!) I had my annual physical last week and my doctor said that I should get the H1N1 vaccine. However, I heard from a family friend that their dr. advised against it and even said "I'm not getting it".... yikes! DH just went to Nanton (AB girls, you with me??) to get his today at lunch as he teaches at the high school there so it's easily accessible. They are open on Wednesdays starting today from 12-6. I think I'll try my luck at Avenida tonight or tomorrow after the crowds have hopefully died down. I've been back and forth on it but I think it's the right decision for me. I've also been more aware of hand-washing, face touching, etc. I hope everyone stays healthy no matter what you do!!
  13. Congratulaions and welcome to the forum! Cuba is awesome - you'll have a great time.
  14. Welcome to the forum, fellow Cuban bride! Best of luck with your planning!
  15. My FI stayed with his brother-in-law and my MOH stayed with me. Brother-in-law was all over the "Bert and Ernie" beds idea as apparently his bed was actually 2 put together LOL I guess you have to know him!

In fact, we ordered 2 extra for my step-dad and brother as well! Everyone loved them.
  17. I used teacherbride's (Connie's) ideas of pink flowers and greenery on the arch. When we met with our WC, I requested that the archway be decorated that way and didn't bring any ceremony decorations from home. As for the reception, DH and I made luminaries (my planning thread is on here somewhere) and I found some seashells and tiny yellow paper flowers at Michael's. We gave that stuff to the WC and she arranged for our reception table to be decorated with those things. I know a lot of girls here do a lot of DIY decorations, but I am not that way inclined. As it was, the few decorations we brought really turned out nicely and the staff did a great job of setting it up. My one tip would be to be specific!! And don't be timid about your requests. By nature I am a "ok, it's fine" type of person so having my SILs there to take charge of the decorating of the ceremony site was great, especially since I wasn't there beforehand to make sure everything was going according to my plan! It really helps to have someone in your group who is able to supervise how things are done so you can worry about more important things!
  18. Wow - your list is pretty detailed!! Looks great. The big things for us to sort out were the date, time and location of the ceremony as well as the reception location and menu. We got married at Playa Pesquero in Holguin in April. There were 3 other weddings that day and we were the last. They had a horse and carriage for us as well that picked up the groom, best man and groom's mom first, brought them to the beach and then picked up me, my maid of honor and my mom and brought us to the beach, so there was no overlap in DH and I seeing each other before the ceremony. However, our WC who had our list of requests for decor, etc. was not present during the actual decorating of our wedding site. I know this because my SILs were watching a few of the resort staff assembling everything and they did not follow my instructions! I think it is due to the fact that they book so many weddings in a day (perhaps your resort won't) and they are just taking one set of decorations down and assembling the next set. My SILs were able to assist the staff with fixing the decorations to my specifications which was awesome. Holguin is beautiful! You will have an awesome time.
  19. I wore mine down for the ceremony and bustled for the reception. When we got home I decided to have my dress dry-cleaned and boxed. When I went to drop it off, the lady at the cleaners asked me if I'd actually worn it yet! So mine didn't get dirty on the sand...
  20. Same here - I actually really liked the way it turned out. It's neat to see the parts of the ceremony that you miss, being the bride and coming in last! Also, they add some music to certain parts but have mics on their video camera so we could hear our vows. I'm really glad we got it.

Can you recommend any companies that make these? Thanks for all the other ideas too, ladies!
  22. Ladies, My SIL is almost 7 months pregnant and her birthday is in a few weeks. Does anyone have ideas for a good birthday gift for her? We are hoping to do a spa day in November but I'd like to send her something in the mail for her actual day. I'd love to hear any tips from moms-to-be or moms-already of items that would be nice for you to receive during your last bit of pregnancy. She has a lot of baby stuff already so I'd like it to be more focused on her. Thanks!
  23. I read in People magazine (online) that they have been married for just over 25 years. I can't imagine being pregnant almost every year for that many years! That being said, good on them for raising their kids with values and respect. Even DH watches the show when it's on.... sometimes!
  24. Congratulations and welcome!!
