  1. Jenn-

I wouldn't worry about how long the Grand has been open. I got married at the IRHS only a few months after it was open last year and we honeymooned at the Grand. Even at that time the Grand was wonderful. The only reason we didn't get married at the Grand was that we had children coming to our wedding. My husband and 3 couples that went to our wedding last year have already booked to go back to the Grand for our anniversary. Two familys that went to our wedding have booked at the Suites to go back. Both resorts are awesome and the staff will make you want to go back again and again.

I haven't posted a review for my wedding yet, but I will, I promise. Things have finally settled down to where I can think about writing a review. We had over 5000 photos to go through and I finally have that done so I can post some pictures too. Feel free to PM me with questions.

  2. Hey Ladies! We survived our wedding at the Suites last Friday and I just wanted to jump on here (during my honeymoonblush2.gif) and say everything was perfect and I can't think of a better place to have a wedding. You are all in good hands with Nicole. I will post a complete review with photos next week when we are back from our honeymoon. Please feel free to shoot me your questions.

As a side note, the night of the wedding my husband and I were moved over to the Grand for our honeymoon. It is the most romantic place we have ever stayed and if you don't have plans for your honeymoon yet, CONSIDER IT! It is over the top luxury and very, very quite. We feel like we are the only ones here. And when we want to party, we just go over to the Suites.

I saw a post asking about upgrading your cake, and that is something you can do with Nicole when you start to plan. We upgraded ours to a three tier because we had 40 people and it didn't cost us anything. You basically pay for it when you pay for the additional guests in your package.

Also, you can get custom centerpieces when you do your planning with Tai Flora but it will be extra. I worked with Natalie at TF and she was awesome and had some good ideas. She has a 1-800 number and is really quick getting back to you. I ended up using hurricanes with petals and floating candles for aisle runner decorations and then they were moved from the ceremony to the reception tables. That was how we kept our flower budget reasonable. I will post pics soon. Got to go to dinner...

  3. Does anyone know of a company down in Montego Bay that does sunset cruises. I want to have one for my rehersal dinner event but it seems like every company I talk to only offers snorkeling tours, trips to Dunn's or Rick's that include seeing the sunset. The problem with that is we want to dress up and not get wet. So I guess what I am saying is I am looking for a company that has a sunset cruise where the cruise is actually the event and not just a added bonus. thanks in advance!

Which Iberostar property were you thinking? I am going to have 50 or so people at my wedding at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites. I have the wedding price sheets for the Suites and some of the options are only for groups of 50 or more. If you PM me with your email I can send it to you.

I can't speak for the Beach or the Grand, but they are both as large as Suites so I can't think of why 50 would be too many.
  5. Hello everyone. I just got my confirmation for our wedding at the Suites on July 31, 2009. I am very excited because we changed resorts last minute due to the terrible reviews the mexican resort we originally booked was getting after it opened in December 2009. I must say it feels good to read reviews of the Suites and know that our guests will have great vacation.

I am having a hard time, however, finding any photos or reviews about any Suites weddings. I am sure it has to do with it being so new. If any one has any photos of a wedding there that they could post, I would greatly appreciate it.

I haven't really started planning yet, but my TA is going to be staying at the Suites the first week of March. She wants me to put together a list of things I want photos of. I have a heafty list already, but I would be happy to include any suggestions other Suites brides may have.

    Thanks and happy planning!

  6. For all those who have their hearts set on Zocalo, I would double check with the WCs at the resort before giving up. When I was there for my site visit in Decemeber, I sat out on the terrace with Carolyn and Gilberto and told them that I was having 40-50 people and that I wanted Zocalo! They said would be fine and they showed me how eveything would be arranged. I think another option could be to ask to have some of the inside of the restaurant reserved for your party as well. There are two double doors located at the western most part of the terrace that open up into a little cove of the restaurant. I bet they would let you use that area-but it might be something you would have to arrange when you get there because the WCs would be the ones who could give the okay.

  7. I think there is a more comprehensive list with my date on it out there somewhere, but I added it again anyway because I get excited when I think about it!

When I was there for my site inspection, I sat with Gilberto and Caroline on the Zocalo terrace and told them that I would like to have a reception with 60 to 80 pp. I was told the terrace would be fine for that many. However, I am still 8 months away and I haven't seen any confirmation in writing.

I am so glad you get to go see the resort before you plan. It really helped me put a lot of my anxiety to rest. And like I said before, until I was there, I had planned on picking the plaza for my reception. But when I saw the Zocalo terrace, it had such a mexican vibe (it is the mexican cantina)to it and you could see and hear the ocean-- I just knew that was the place. Really when it comes down to it, the difference will be what type of reception you want. I can just imagine it at night with the sconces on and a whole bunch of candles lit--I feel like it will be cozy and intimate at night.

The only thing I will say about the Plaza that is logistical and not just a personal preference is that I feel like wind will be an issue. The plaza is tucked in side the buildings but it seemed like the wind came off the ocean and was directed right through the buildings over that spot. When I was on the terrace, it felt more sheltered. However, I was onl on the property for about 6 hours so it could have been the weather that day.

Again, I welcome any questions, because realistically not everyone can go down there and I am glad to help in any way I can. I can't tell you all how awesome it is after a long day at work and a long night of planning and internet browsing ahead of me to sit down and read all the posts on this forum and feel like you all understand what I am going through--the good and the bad smile03.gif

Thanks to all and have a Happy New Year!
  9. Magda's review made me feel a lot better too! I was down there for a site inspection in early December and the only thing I have been worried about is the SERVICE. When I was there it was only 30% capacity and we ate lunch at Zoloco. It took a really long time, but the food was great! It seems like things keep getting better and better...

The rest of the resort is gorgeous, and I can say that once I was there, I changed my mind on a lot of things. First, I am opting for the sky wedding--it is worth the money in my opinion and it will be more private. Second, I am going to do the reception outside on the terrace of Zoloco. It is so neat how it over looks the ocean and there is plenty of room to have tables and a dance floor. I feel like this space above all captures the essence of why I wanted to do a destination wedding. Laid back, warm and inviting.

Sorry I haven't posted a review yet, I was swamped at work when I got back and with the holidays I haven't had time. I will get something put together this weekend. Feel free to message me with any specific questions.

  10. Hey all, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

I am leaving for my my cruise early Sunday (Nov. 30) morning and will be doing a site visit at Sensatori on Friday (Dec. 5). I plan on taking a bunch of pictures and reporting back on how everything goes. If anyone has any specific questions they want me to ask while I am there, PM me or post them and I will do my best to get them answered!

It will just be too hard for us trying to get them there. You may ask how far in advance we should ship them, if we should put ATTN: to (one of them), should we put our names somewhere on the boxes so they know who they belong to, etc....

    I sure do appreciate it!

P.S. If there are any other brides who will be there the same time as us (we will be there 4/29-5/7) and would like to use our centerpieces, let me know. You are more than welcome....let me know and I can send or post pics of what they will look like.
    Thanks,
    Tracy
I was told when I put down my deposit in October that we weren't allowed to ship anything to the resort ahead of time. The issue came up because my FMIL is a florist and wanted to know when and to who we could ship decorations to. I was told (by Nancy) that they don't want to be responsible for storing and securing things sent down especially given the number of brides they have during certain times. I hope you get a different answer than I did-if you do let me know! I had resigned myself to trying to find things for OT bags and centerpieces at local markets while I am down there and paying for what the resort could provide if I didn't find anything. I even thought about shipping it to myself right before I leave home for the resort but that seems like it would be a gamble to me. I will be there six days before the wedding, but I have never had good luck with international shipping.

I had trouble too, but realized you have to have Quicktime loaded on your computer to see it. If that doesn't work check to make sure you have the new version of Internet Explorer (I think it is 7.0 or 7 point something.

Beecher2Be, thanks for the great video! It makes me awfully excited for my site visit in a few weeks!

I've also requesterd on behalf of my brides the ability to prebook the locations (instead of so close in to the wedding!)

I'll also find out exactly what the differences are between Beach waiters and beach butlers- if it's just in the name or if it's actually in duties performed!

Please don't think that you can't vent on this forum- I was just trying to explain some of the issues and let you know that they are not just issues that Lomas/ Karisma have but they are pretty standard industry wide, albiet to varying degrees!

So for this weeks questions I have:

Time line of when to expect to finalize details?

How early can locations for receptions be reserved?

Differences between Beach waiters and beach butlers?

How soon to expect Beach waiters and beach butlers at Azul Sensatori?

Who exactly works in Miami and works on Azul Sensatori weddings?

Is there any plans in place to hire additional Miami based WC's For the Azul brands?

Can Canadian brides book through a U.S. based TA and still get the free wedding package?

With the prices going up for 2009 weddings- those that secured their wedding dates and were quoted on items in 2008 will pay the 2008 prices- is this correct?

Anything else that you guys would like added?

Jennifer, I may be to late, but I just wanted to add that when I requested information from Karisma's reservation desk directly, I received from them a brochure titled "Gourmet Inclusive Collection by Karisma" dated Spring 2008. Just like Ericka pointed out-on Page 33 of this brochure there is a section that runs down what is "included in your package" and it has "Beach Waiter Service-serving gourmet bites and refreshing drinks" and "Beach Butler service- gourmet bites, towels, sun tan lotion, reading material" for Azul Sensatori. The interesting part is only Azul Fives has an (*) next to it and it says "package inclusions may change without previous notice." I take that to mean that because there is no (*) by Azul Sensatori the packages for that resort won't change. There are also several references to beach butlers being part of Azul Sensatori's package throughout the 38 page brochure.
  14. Okay everyone, I am new to the thread and proabably going out on a limb here in saying this but maybe we should cut the WC's and the folks at Lomas a little bit of slack. I am not saying that it isn't frustrating to have questions go unanswered or phone calls and emails unreturned--I am experiencing the same thing right now as I try to schedule a site visit in early Decemeber. All I am saying is maybe we shouldn't be so critical when we really have no idea what they are going through. I believe that Nancy and Fabio are the only WCs for all of the resorts and people like Luis are just there to assist with answering questions prior to booking your date. I was thinking about it today, if there are 40 plus brides on here for just one resort, I can't imagine all the email and phone calls they get everyday from brides planning weddings at all of their resorts. Plus Sensatori just opened last week and they have been dealing with other resorts closing down in Tulum. I was told by my TA that they have been trying to help the brides who had their resorts closed during their wedding. Can you imagine that? All I am saying is it could be worse...

  16. Hello everyone! I am recently engaged and planning a wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico at Azul Sensatori. Our wedding date was just confirmed-July 31, 2009. I have a long way to go as far as planning goes and I am looking forward to being a part of this great group of people.
