If I may impose on your advice once again - did you have any difficulty getting the wedding date you preferred? May I ask which resort you picked? (your profile shows Jamaica...please forgive me if I'm out-to-lunch on something, as I'm a newbie) ;-) Thanks so much for sharing - it really helps! Glad to be of help! Unfortunately, in mexico you have to be there for 3 business days before getting married. We arrive on Saturday, Dec 6 and I wanted my numbers to be 08/12/08.... but everything was booked until the 11th. We had no problem with time of day though. We initially were booked for 5pm so we had the sunset but then when rethinking the time due to our pictures would be in the dark!!! lol but now we are at 2pm. We are getting married at the Riu Vallarta in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Jamie

We ended up selecting the Grand Marival for our wedding, as it was more fitting for our guests, but your location will be amazing! We don't depart until January 31 and have just begun the paperwork to ensure our marriage is legal. If you can offer *any* advice, it'd be so appreciated! I'm sure things are a tad hectic, so if you're unable to reply, I completely understand. Have a WONDERFUL time - best of luck! Thanks for letting me know about the hotel. I am getting VERY excited and not very hectic to be honest.... so advice about the legalities... email your coordinator RIGHT AWAY... ask her if you have the right stuff but what i sent via courier $66 from Purolator well before the mandatory 15 days requested was: 4 witnesses passports (photocopies) Wedding Application the coordinator sent to me Bride and Groom passports (photocopies) Bride and Groom birth certificates - notarized and translated - included the originals The Coordinator emailed me when she received the documentation stating that although I had everything translated it has been changed and i would need to get it done in Mexico at their translator and would be charged when I arrive. Needless to say that it was a bother to get it done here and I was very annoyed and frustrated. With a couple of emails back and forth she said she would try and figure out how to make it work out. Turns out they changed it 2 weeks prior to them getting my documentation. My travel agent hadn't even heard of the change..... I hope this helps you out for your destination but definitely make them confirm what you need to bring! If you need anything else don't hesitate to contact me Jamie

She sent me an email stating that things have changed and that the Birth Certificates now have to be translated in the Mexican Province I have already spent $300 to get them notarized and translated and am very bothered that things changed. I guess go with the flow is the only thing I can do but the fact that the rule changed 2 weeks ago and I signed for my wedding last April and no one let me know rules changed. Thank you soo much for the review! It is a peice of mind to hear how well it went as I am getting married at the Riu Vallarta in less then a month! Our only hiccup so far was that after spending $300 on getting our birth certificates notarized and translated then sent to them, Erika emailed stating that they have changed things and you now have to get them translated there! I was fumed as no one discussed the change or saved me $300.... I guess if the rest goes like it did for you I won't even remember the "hiccup" once it is over jamie

Need help picking Bridesmaid gifts!
Sweetfox replied to meagan's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
so I am getting married in Nuevo Vallarta and my bridesmaids have been awesome! We already have necklaces and have decided to not go to the spa as we aren't really spa girls.... I was thinking of an excursion for the 3 of us and then getting a picture framed when we get home. What do you think?? -
Do all of us "Type A's" go to Mexico to get married I also had a problem getting in touch with my coordinator who coordinates for 2 hotels. I got my travel agent to flip her a I am on her radar and am not having further problems. I decided on a destination wedding for less stress and have now realized that is exactly it! these coordinators work on Mexico time and it will all work out fine Best of luck!! Jamie

Thank you soo much for the offer! Erika has finally been in touch and I think I will get it figured from her information. I am in an ivory dress and of course the arch and chairs are white - YIKES. my wedding party is mainly in black and the groom went out on his own and came home with a powder blue dress shirt for himself so my dark blue wedding is out! lol They have the option of putting pink, baby blue or white bows on the chairs and I must be honest, I never saw myself as a "baby blue" wedding person. So now I am thinking of more ivory or golden champagne colour. Maybe bringing organza or toole with us to decorate the chairs and white arch way ourselves. It is so hard to be informal but still classy So to finish my not questions post, Erika got in touch and was able to answer my questions. It seems that if you are having problems getting in touch get your travel agent to email the importance of your emails! Thank you to all of your posts and anymore thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Jamie and Kris -
Nuevo Vallarta Whoas...
Sweetfox replied to Sweetfox's topic in Destination Weddings in Puerto Vallarta & surrounding areas
From what I have read and heard, The Flamingo in the upper level so you still have a view of the ocean. I was also told the food is more meat and potatoes which is more the style of the guests. Do you have any other suggestions? -
Thanks Helen, you are the reason I joined this Forum. Your posting kick started my excitement for the upcoming wedding. My biggest question is legalities. I have gotten our birth certificates translated and notarized. We never sent them to the Mexican consulate, like my friends did in teh Mayan Riviera. I have emailed Erika regarding this as it only says to do what i have done on the site but I want to ensure my bases are covered. any insight would be great Jamie

My wedding date is December 11th. we arrive at the hotel on the 6th so yes, I am freaking out a bit. I cc'd my travel agent on my last email so she could follow up with a bit more clout! I just called my agent and I am getting her on it Thank you for your help. -
Hello everyone, I am very excited about my upcoming wedding in Nuevo Vallarta at the Riu Vallarta and have read some great postings that have helped me to make decisions regarding pictures, cake, etc. What I am worried about because of my Type A personality and the fact that i am an Event Coordinator in Canada is that I cannot seem to get my questions answered by my coordinator Erika. I am a month and week to the day and am starting to worry. I want to ensure I have proper legals finished but those questions aren't even answered.... I am sure it will all be good but can anyone sooth my stress lol Another worry is that they generally have 3 weddings per day, from what i have heard so if you don't get in your request for restaurant, time, etc. do you not get what you want because your emails aren't answered? Thank you for any feedback you have Jamie

thank you for the good wishes. I am getting a bit nervous about if i have the appropriate legal matters fulfilled and the coordinator never gets back to me... but I am excited
