  1. Hello and welcome !! For the villas near Playa del Carmen, I heard very good things about : Casa Martia : Casa Martia - Home. and Playa del Secreto : Welcome to Hacienda Del Secreto There are a lot of villas that you can rent for a wedding like here : Villa Zen del Mar, Riviera Maya beachfront vacation villa rental on beautiful Jade Bay Mexico near Akumal and Tulum You can also do a search on the forum for those who have considered villas, here for instance : http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t32421 Given that villas rentals usually ask for a 5,000$ fee just to rent the site for private events, you may also want to consider small, boutique resorts, or other beach locations. For instance : Al Cielo Al Cielo Hotel A Charming Small Beachfront Hotel Xpu Ha Beach Riviera Maya Mexico and http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t22155 Shangri-La Caribe Shangri-La Caribe Hotel Playa del Carmen Mexico, Beachfront Resort, welcome or Le Reve, where I got married : Hotel Le Reve and http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t43221 Also read the site review from San Fran Sarah : http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t22796 That might give you ideas !
  2. I had this problems for years. I tried all kinds of products and vitamins with no success, until I tried MSM. Just one pill a day and my nails are now hard and beautiful. And only one layer http://www.msmguide.com/

  4. If you just started... do you want to consider another option ? Did you look at Yola | Build a Free Website ? I used this and it was amazing - amazingly easy, quick, great results. See excerpts from my site : http://tosharewithbdw.synthasite.com/ And I might update the domain soon so could be this link instead : http://tosharewithbdw.yolasite.com/
  5. ladies, for those of you looking for a resort on the Riviera Maya, I wanted to give you a word about Hacienda Tres Rios. Riviera Maya All Inclusive Resorts | Luxury Caribbean Beach Resort | Hacienda Tres Rios, Riviera Maya, Mexico My brother and his two kids, as well as my parents stayed there during my wedding, when if turned out the Azul Fives would not open. I went to have dinner with them one night. The place is beautiful. The rooms are like the pictures you can see on the photo gallery. The food was amazing. They have children activities, too. everybody was raving about the place and though, they are all very picky ! the resot have a lot of great activities - like going kayaking on their river (the resort is built on an Eco-Park), etc. It's eco-friendly. But I thought the most amazing is the wedding options they propose. They have the beach of course, but also river wedding, or cenote wedding. Worth mentioning - you can probably get married on their beach and get your TTD in their cenote !
  6. Of - you might want to check into the hacienda Tres Rios. This is where my brother stayed with his two children (4 and 6). My parents also stayed there for a while before moving to our resort. They have great children services, the food is awesome, the resort beautiful. They were raving about it, and they are super picky ! Here is the place : Riviera Maya All Inclusive Resorts | Luxury Caribbean Beach Resort | Hacienda Tres Rios, Riviera Maya, Mexico They even do cenotes wedding, for something a little bit different !
  7. Don't worry too much. I got engaged end of Sept 08 and got married beginning of May 09. So it was 7 months, like you have now (or maybe you have more, if it's end of February). Most of the resorts I contacted still had my dates - some already had weddings that day but you have several times possible. Also remember that if you really really want a resort thre's always a way - move the date to a week day instead of the week-end for instance. I booked my wedding planner 7 weeks before (the hotel one quit and I had to find another one) and she was available. I booked my photographer 2 months and a half before - a very talented one, not too expensive, and she was available as well as another of her colleagues. Even for the dress - I was stressing and ordered one super quickly (like, 8 days after starting to dress hunt !) but it arrived in one month !! With no rush asked ! The alterations only took 2 weeks. The hardest part is for your guests to plan... not for you. As odd as it sounds. So don't worry - you're still on time. I would nevertheless start dress hunting, and resort hunting, without waiting for the proposal... that way, you will be ready when it comes and you just have to press the button (for the resort - the dress could already have been ordered by thenm as it does not matter if you get married in 2010 or 2011 - you can still order it. Better in advance than too late.)
  8. 1,000 $ for 7 nights occupancy (double) - cheapest room option possible at your resort (inc airfare and taxes) Note 1 : Air fare is from Houston. Houston to Playa del Carmen - most people came just for the week-end, generally 3 or 4 days (2 or 3 nights) Note 2 : From France/Switzerland total cost pp is 1,500$ ** Edit : I correct to 1,000$ per person. I originally posted price for the room** 70 # of invites sent 31 # of guests attending (booked before swine flu) Le Reve Resort Name 5 # of stars of resort

  10. I always use the same - a Kiss My Face fragrance free stick (no aluminum, no other harmful ingredients). It works extremely well, and when I'm worried it will not be enough, I double it with some Weleda-citrus natural spray. Again chemical free.
  11. I'm also a member. PM me your email address if you want an invite.

  13. I did plan a "small" wedding - we were originally scheduled to be 33 and ended up 23, including 2 small children. We did this in a boutique hotel rather than a small resort. I originally enquired about eloping. I had found his hotel that make "eloping" packages : Intimate Affair Wedding Package at Old Bahama Bay I thought it was great ! You can just show up !

For a U shape reception you have 1 table of 10 and 2 of 8 – which I kind of large and uneasy for conversation. That and I have been at head tables before, and I find the conversation stale and not so entertaining. That and in my French Canadian (Quebec) culture, there is rarely a bridal party (witnesses are family members, and head table is for immediate family). That and I wanted to be able to talk to everyone! I mean out guests are going all this way for us, and a vacation, but still...And why should our wedding party get all the fun and attention of the bride + groom! So I was venting to my MOH and said “ I wish I could just to a Musical Chair receptionâ€...we both laughed it off and then pouf! Epiphany!! We will have 4 tables of 6 = 24 Each table will have 2 empty seats for the bride and groom! After we are done eating one course, we rotate move to the next table! We get to talk to everyone! No one feels out of the loop!! Musical Chairs reception seating plan!!! I hope no one thinks I'm crazy... Haha France talks to Quebec !! We did exactly the same thing ! At the beginning we were supposed to be 33, we were doing 3 tables of 10 with 2 empty "reserved" seats each table. When we turned out only 23 (thanks Swine Flu), I rented one more table and we put the tables together two by two - a "family" table and a "friends" table. Each table was 11 or 12 - 4 on each large side, 2 on each small side. We justed made a "table" plan - who should seat at which table - without actual seating plan (where to seat at the table). Also allowed us to have place cards with everybody menu choice. We changed table in the middle of the dinner. Was perfect
  15. I LOVE the pics with the masks ! I wanted todo one but - - there was no mask to be found in Mexico at the time of my wedding !! Congrats ! everything looked fantastic !
  16. I just found this, thought I would share ! Destination Wedding Gown: Traveling with Your Wedding Gown http://weddinggownspecialists.com/emergencygowncare.htm
  17. I've been looking for a recommendable place to dry clean my wedding gown in Houston. So far, no luck. However I stumbled upon this website : Lowest Priced Wedding Gown Preservation - Guaranteed! I was wondering if any one of you had used it or heard of their services ? The description looks good and the service is not that expensive... let me know !
  18. OMG I'm so sorry you had to go through this ! This guy really seems like the guy to avoid ! Does he have any idea of what "service" and "client" is ? And insulting you on top of this ! Can't believe it ! For the editing of your pics : if you don't want to invest in a paying software, you should try Picasa. Picasa is completely free (it's google photo software), and it comes with some basic, though powerful, edition features. When I say basic - it's compared to photoshop but they actually have a full range of cropping, color, contrast, light, effects.... and a "feel lucky" button if you don't know what to do. You can modify your pics, undo the changes if you don't like them, and make a back-up of the original when saving. For the albums : I am using shutterfly and I am so happy with it ! You get free prints just for sharing your pics. And they have all kind of goodies including nice albums. You can start your projects and save them and order them once you're done. It's really cool. Good luck girl ! and thanks for your review in the name of all the brides that will avoid this crazy photog thanks to you.
  19. Not sure what kind of budget you have, but if you want the perfect, personnalized cake topper... I advice magicmud.com. I got mine there. It was perfect, got here in time even though it was in a rush. Everybody loved it. A lot of pictures : Custom Wedding Cake Toppers and Personalized Wedding Figurines Ours :
  20. I wish I had taken : - CDs for the car. We had only one CD, that was intennded or the video of the wedding. Granted, we had packed our docking station (for the room) so we did not think of CDs... but for the car it would have been a must (we drove a lot, to Tulum, Ek Balam, Cancun several times, etc) - Tape ! To re-pack all the fragile items. I had the bubble wrap and the scissors, but did not think of the tape. Well, actually I thought about it but left it on the counter... - Biafine. This is a special cream sold over the counter in France for burns (all types, including sunburnt). So much better than any sold in the US - a road map of the region. Did not find one there (curious, he ?) I'm so glad I did pack : - my own pharmacy supplies. I had a beginning of UTI and was so glad to have my D-Mannose with me ! DH also got struck by Moctezuma... - my hand sanitizer. Did not know I would not find any in Playa due to the flu... - scissors, sewing kit, shout wipes, nail polish remover, 4 bathing suits, 8 pairs of flip flops and sandals - I had all this and used it all - sneakers ! So useful for climbing ruins - water shoes ! great for the cenotes and the cenote park ! It was a last minute purchase that i did not regret - a pashmina. It was so windy at night. I used it every day. I really did not need : - a lot of the dresses / more dressy clothes. We did not go out so much or it was low key
  21. Unfortunately there are a lot of hotels that got "consolidated" lately, for the same reason. I hope that not too many will find out at the last minute - when arriving in Cancun !
  22. It's not that I particularly like it, but I love to travel... and I travel for work. So, I'm a platinum flyer on no less than two programs (Flying Blue and Miles &More) - meaning I gather more than 200,000 frequent flyer miles annually. I stress only in the airport, until I go through security. I always fear I will miss my flight ! After that, it's like a little vacation, a moment apart. I have my ipod, my magazines (I only read tabloids on flights), my bottle of water... The nec plus ultra : flying business... it does not happen oftern, but then it's a party Just getting in the plane and seating in these seats that completely lay down (in Air France)... and getting a cup of champagne... Samba ! Right now I'm completely obsessed with the lost Rio-Paris Air France flight. I'm awaiting the manifest (to be published tomorrow) anxiously. Some of my colleagues knew people onboard. It's so awful. I know flying is safer that taking your car (90 less chances to die), but when something like this happens, this is striking. Plus Air France is my preferred airline, so I'm anxious to know what happened.
  23. I prefer #1. I think it's more flettering on you, even though #2 is more "flowy".
  24. I would ask the florist. He/she will know the best. I let it completely to the florist and the WC - once I sent pics of what i wanted.
