Luis and I had decided that since it was our first Christmas in OUR first place together we wanted to host Christmas Eve dinner and have both our families under our roof. It was better than having to choose between both families or shuttle between the two. We cooked up a storm...cochinita pibil, chancho asado, beef ribs, frijoles puercos, tamales mexicanos...and everyone had a grand 'ole time. My parents spent the night at our place since they live over 40 minutes away and we didn't think it was a good idea for them to drive home so late. We all woke up Christmas morning to open gifts. We opened everything addressed to us under the tree and when we were almost finished, Luis said he had one more gift. He grabbed some wrapping paper that someone had torn off one of their gifts and quickly disappeared. He came back with something wrapped several times with the wrapping paper. I was sitting on the ground on my knees, he was standing. It was the sweetest proposal ever. He proposed to me and promised my parents to try his best to be the best man he could be for me. By the end of it, I had tears streaming down both cheeks!
