Here are our invitations that we mailed out on January 27th. A local graphic designer made them for us and we just love them! They turned out great! She even made custom stamps! The main invitation: The inserts (it is a luggage tag design. She used a plastic holder to hold the 3 pieces that are included with the invitation...an RSVP postcard, Travel info card and registry card. The left is the front of the RSVP postcard and the right side of the pic is the back of the postcard: Travel Info insert: Our envelopes (brown paper kraft envelopes with a label: -

Here are some pics of the engagement ring. We just got our wedding bands and I got 2 very thin plain white gold bands, one for either side of the engagement ring. Max's ring is just a plain white gold band. Here is a picture of our save the dates that we made ourselves and sent out back in August of 2008. -

How we met The story begins with a Chicago rivalry...The White Sox vs. The Cubs. It was a beautiful May weekend in Wrigleyville. One of Katie's best friends, Jodi, was in town visiting for the weekend. Little did Katie know that would be the weekend she would meet the man she was going to marry!! Katie, knowing it was a big weekend in Wrigleyville (this is the area of Chicago where the Chicago Cubs ballpark is locatied) decided that her and Jodi would hang out there and do some day drinking. It was Friday, May 18, 2007, the beginning of the Sox/Cubs series. Katie of course wore her black and white to show her team spirit...yes, she cheers for the Sox! So, Katie and Jodi end up at a bar called "Merkles". It is here that Katie spots Max. The two of them flirt and chat and Max finally gets the courage to ask for her number. A few hours later after Katie went one way with her friends and Max went another with his, they decided to meet up and they went to a little place called "The Pick me Up Cafe" (funny, right?!!). They get a bite to eat and the rest is history! The next day Katie sends Max a text to say how much fun she had hanging out and to this day Max still has that text saved in his phone! How sweet!! One great year Since Max and Katie met they have been unseparable. Date, after date, after date...one thing was clear, they were meant to be! One of Max and Katie's favorite things to do is to go to breakfast, grab a cup of coffee and go for a walk along the lake. Or sometimes it's go to dinner, grab a margarita and then go for a walk along the lake!! Regardless, the point is that the two of them love spending time together and talking and just enjoying each other's company. 2007 - 2008 was the greatest year ever. From camping at the Indiana Dunes, to the Cubs vs. Pirates game in Pittsburgh, to The Police Concert at Wrigley Field, to the Lincoln Park Zoo, to all of the fun Chicago street festivals, to introducing Max to musicals and walks along Lake Michigan and much, much more...it truly was the greatest year ever. The Engagement It was Saturday, May 18, 2008 and the day started out with breakfast at one of their favorite spots, Stella's, which is in Lakeview, the neighborhood of Chicago where Katie used to live. After breakfast they went to get coffee at another favorite of theirs, Intelligentsia. They then proceeded to walk along Lake Michigan drinking their coffee. Max had planned it so they would end up in the spot where he first told Katie that he loved her, which is on this grassy spot near the Diversey Harbor where you can sit and watch the boats go into the lake. It was beautiful out that day, sun shining, the sky was so blue, and the city of Chicago looked perfect. They sat down on a little cement bench and they were just admiring the day. It was about noon. And Max says to Katie, "Remember the first time I told you I loved you here? I meant it and I mean it now." Katie just sat there with a look on her face like, yeah. "And there's something else I want to say." says Max. And Katie says, "What?" And Max starts to fumble in his jeans pocket for a few seconds and he finally pulls out a little black box. Smiles are from ear to ear for both Max and Katie. He gets down on one knee, opens the box and asks, "Will you marry me?" And Katie is just speechless and says, "Yes!" They sit there not knowing what to do next and a young man comes galloping over and says, "Congratulations!! Oh my gosh, do you want me to get a picture of you two?!" They hand over their camera and the young man takes their picture! It was great! That picture is the main picture on the website!! They continue to sit there feeling overwhelmed, holding on to each other tight for what seemed like an eternity. They finally stood up and started the rest of their walk down the lake. They end up at the Lincoln Park Zoo and eventually meet up with friends at the bar that they met at 1 year prior.

It looks like we are going to have close to 40 people-is it possible to have the buffet option for dinner? Buffet style is allowed with 50 guest not less. 3.) We really want to do a "welcome dinner" on Friday night and I wanted to see what our options were. I remember when we met you mentioned there was a few options for this. Free option in our International buffer Rest (one area will be for your guest) Extra cost options: private party with a special menu usd 55 or 65 per person (tax and services are not include) 4.) I was thinking about doing a bunch of candles on the tables for the reception-should I bring these down with me or is there a place we can either rent them or can you provide them? I was thinking about tall candle holders because of the wind. We can rent for you, please would you like to send me a pictures. You can bring you own if you prefer. First, thanks for sharing these answers! Second, $200 for tulle!?!? That is crazy! Sunbride posted this link where she got her tulle: Idea Ribbon- Wholesale organza bags Organza Ribbon Organza Bags wedding tulle accessories $.09 Each Start- POWERED BY WEB 2.0 and it is not too expensive at all. Also, my mom is making my veil and we bought about 2 yards of tulle at Joann Fabrics for $4, so that is an option as well. Lastly, I think I'll go with the FREE welcome dinner in the Internaitonal Buffet! Not sure I want to spen $55 or $65 per person for the welcome/rehearsal dinner!

We really want to have our Ceremony under the massage hut as well. I like the idea of my fiance and I and the officiant being under the hut and the guests being on the outside. Right now we have 30 guests and will probably add 4 to 6 more by the end of the month. Imagine decorating it up with Tulle and/or flowers how pretty it would look! We are also going to hire a guitarist or a violinist. Do you know if the ground under the hut is all sand or if it is concrete or something else?

We are undecided about the location of the reception. I am leaning towards the beach. Right now I only have about 25 people including us, there may be some last minute additions, but we will have no more than 30. So I think on the beach will be nice. Have you heard from any other brides which location is the best?

I am surprised they booked 3 weddings in one day. I would be a little concerned, but in all of my correspondence with Landy and the rest there, they assure me that there will not be any problems with what I want. Ususally they do the weddings at different times so they don't overlap. For instance, my ceremony is at 3pm and there is another one at 5 or 6pm. I have confidence that it will all work out for you. I emailed Anabel to ask her about occupancy rates last May (i.e. what was the likelihood that the resort is going to be less than 70% occupied the first week of May since we're hoping to have our reception at the Seaside Grill) and she wrote me back this reply: "About you request for the seaside grill you are right is depends the occupation in the resort; may Is a very busy month in the resort. We confirm the locations 3 week before to the wedding but I have you request. We have 2 wedding more that day but if the occupation is less than 70% we can confirm you the seaside grill, but only one month before to the wedding." I'm trying not to get too bothered by the fact that there are THREE weddings on May 7th. I was originally told there was one other wedding on May 7th, so I guess they've booked another. I could complain, but it's not like they're going to cancel someone's wedding. Would it bother any of you or am I getting a little bridezilla-ish? Oh well, I've asked for the wedding arch at the Seaside Grill for 5 pm (confirmed) and the Seaside Grill for my reception (we'll see). I guess I should just come up with some other options for my reception in case I can't get it. I don't want to be in the ballroom, but we have 52 people so I'm not really sure what the next best option is. Sorry for being grumpy!

Welcome to the forum! I too am getting married at Dreams Tulum next year and I live in Chicago. I too heard today from my travel agent that she got a call from AM Resorts who own all of the Dreams and Secrets resorts that they are reopening on November 15th. Now, I will believe it when I see it, but it sounds promising. May 1, 2009 Katie

Katie and Max May 1, 2009 Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa (Hopefully) Max and I just came across this forum as we were researching the closure of Dreams Tulum. It is very exciting to have this available to us and to be able to communicate with other brides who have been there or are getting ready to go there as we are!

Everyone, My wedding at DT is not until May 1, 2009, but I did not sign up for this stress. When we were deciding where to go we read about the hotel closures in Tulum in July and our travel agent assured us that DT was not in question. Well, here we are a few months later and maybe it's related, maybe not, but we are stuck in this debacle. I just received the following message from AMResorts to my travel agent this morning (10/21/0. My travel agent also said she spoke on the phone with Christie Gonzalez, the Midwest Sales Representative of AMResorts (owner of all Dreams and Secret's properties), who has advised that by tomorrow they may have a definitive answer of their reopening. Here is the email Marcie (my travel Agent) received: Dear Marcie: I understand you have been in contact with our Regional Sales Manager, Christie Gonzalez regarding your wedding at Dreams Tulum November 15. The issue in Tulum has caused frustrations and I completely understand as I also have the similar frustrations given our current situation with this hotel. Our attorneys in Mexico are on top of this situation, however information is not as concrete as we prefer as working with the authorities in Mexico is quite difficult and our situation is completely political, nothing more. We are not in violation within any of our grounds and share no similarities with respects to our hotel neighbors, despite what some news has reported. I would like to advise that guests will be back at the resort starting tomorrow or next week, however we don't have definitive information from the authorities of that possibility. We can only make decisions for the short term as we are optimistic Dreams Tulum will be back accepting guests very soon. We have reports that Eurostar Tulum is back open and that is very good news. We made the decision yesterday to protect guests up through November 15 at any of our other properties in Dreams Cancun and Secrets Silversands. Since weddings are more tedious and require difficult operations due to different jurisdictions, we are making necessary protection for all weddings through November 30. We do have quite an amount of weddings in October and November and our hotel staff, as well as hotel staff brought in from our other resorts, are in the process contacting each one by one with protection plans. I will also personally contact our weddings/sales personnel at Dreams Tulum with regards to your wedding group for follow up. Please feel free to let me know of any questions and I am happy to assist. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Matthew J. Mullen Senior Director of Sales AMResorts
