  1. I totally agree that they arn't the nicest cakes, but the upgrades that I asked for quotes on were like $300!!! Did anyone see any more affordable cakes?
  2. Congratulations! I hope your planning goes really well!
  3. oooh I would love the shell if you still have it!
  4. Great stories! I think it just warms our womanly hearts when our guys work with our families!
  5. Absolutely not! Some feelings are going to get hurt...it is just part of planning an event like this. The most important thing is that you make your own choices, plan your wedding like it is the only one you will ever have and so you should make yourself happy...I am not a selfish person, but I think it is ok to please yourself when it comes to this day about YOU and you FI.
  6. There are so many wonderful engagement stories on here that I wanted to hear how your FI asked your dad/mom for their blessing. I think it is a really special time for your family and your FI. I will start with my story. On June 4th I received a phone call that my boyfriend had fallen 25 feet and was in hospital, it was a very scary day in my life. We had been dating for 8 years and there were alot of family/friend jokes to him about if he was ever going to ask me to marry him...he was certainly taking his time. Over the next week I stayed by his bedside for 16 hours a day driving 3 hours everyday to the hospital and back. By the grace of God his spine and head were not injured, however he had a broken pelvis, fractured foot and horribly smashed elbow joint. In the next 2 weeks he had 2 surgeries on his elbow. My father drove to the hospital to wait with me both times he was in surgery. After Chris came out of the second surgery he asked if I would go to the car and get him some flavored water. I thought it was kind of strange but he had just come out of surgery so off I went. This is when he decided to ask my dad for his blessing. He told my father that he felt so lucky to have me and he loved me deeply and wanted to marry me. After 8 years of dating, my dad gave his blessing and told him he would be honoured to have him as a son. The next day my dad came back to make sure that he was really serious once the anesthetic had worn off! Chris told him that the accident had made him realize that I was the most important thing in his life. 2 months later when Chris was able to walk again he took me away for the weekend and proposed on a beautiful cliff side just after sunrise. He presented me with a ring that he and my father had worked together on.
  7. Congratulations! My FI and I have a similar story...he was just out of highschool and I was finished my first year of university when we met..it has been 8 years. We chose mexico so if there is anything I can give you some help on let me know! There is this awesome mexico map for resorts...check it out! Playa del Carmen Map
  8. What a beautiful dress, it looks wonderful on you...but do you love it? I tried on so many dresses and had a hard time finding my dress until I tried on the opposite of what I wanted to satisfy my mom and it turned out to be so wonderful. Make sure you get something you love...even if you have to keep searching, if you are dreaming of this dress at night then go for it!! Either way it is beautiful!
  9. Whew, Ok I think I am almost done with the major tasks! I ordered my dress last week, it is the total opposite of what I thought i wanted, but I just love it and on top of that I found a chapel length veil that I absolutely love...a little much for the beach but I don't care! The bridesmaid dresses are picked out and will be ordered next week. Dinner, flowers and my bookings are taken care of so I just have flights, oot bags and invitations left to do! Oh and I need to lose about 40 lbs so I had better get moving on that too! Overall things are FINALLY starting to move smoothly! ETA: whoops, maybe I need to get my marriage certificate too...for some reason that one keeps slipping my mind!
  10. I was hoping the salon prices would be listed in the spa menu but they don't seem to be. Does anyone have an idea of what it costs to have your hair done up at the Royal?
  11. I am still waiting to have this cleared up by real resorts. I think that there was a little mistake and they had me booked at the royal in cancun...however I have not yet had them tell me that I am confirmed on the beach in playa del carmen...I will let you know as soon as I know!

  13. Hi Ladies, I am looking for some input/advice from any beach brides at the Royal. When I booked my wedding through Condo Villa Hotel world I was told that a beach reception would be no problem, but now that I am talking to Paty at the Royal about it she is telling me it depends on how many guests I am having, but I can't seem to understand if I have too many or too little. At this point I am expecting around 30 people. I seem to be getting the idea that the area is not big enough, but I am sure I have seen larger weddings with receptions on the beach. I am waiting on an email back from her with some clarification. I am really just hoping that it is a miscommunication. Does anyone have any input? Also, I was trying to plan my dinner menu and I am told I have to pick 1 salad, 1 entree and 1 desert for everyone! Everyone has to eat the same thing? I originally wanted the buffet but I guess you need to have 50 people for that and I am sure I will not have that many people. Any former Royal brides out there that can tell me if they had to choose one meal for everyone?
  14. I actually have shook me all night long as my first fast song too...quickly followed by thunderstruck...but I am obviously an AC/DC fan...I can't wait to hear the complaints from my FI's country family

I just love here and it is kind of my inside joke because my FI and I have been together for 8 years and no one thought he would ever ask...everyone was shocked. I also just simply love that song.
  16. I have luckily been dealing with Angie from condo villa hotel world and she communicates with the WC's on my behalf. So far she has been wonderful. I came into contact with her through calling the "wedding" number on the real resorts site. She has a lot of the information avail and seems to get things done quickly. Has anyone else delt with her?

I have seen them everywhere in the threads..thanks for clearing it up for me, I was just calling mine welcome bags. Great idea on the advil...it is something I ALWAYS forget and end up needing.

  19. I have been waiting about 8 years to plan this wedding so I was very excited to start. Plus I found out very early on that March April and May are VERY busy destination wedding months and dates book up fast so I wanted to get everything in a row. I am working with Angie from Condo, villa, hotel world. I found her information through the royal's site. She has been wonderful. I can pass on her phone # if you like.
  20. Sign: Taurus (April 19-May 20) Personality traits: Patient, practical and dedicated. Bridal pro: Your hard-working and reliable nature will allow you to delve into the wedding planning process without getting into a major tizzy. Bridal con: You have a tendency not to have an open mind. When you make your decision, you stick to it, regardless. To prevent a stressful situation from occurring, keep your mind open to other suggestions. Well, Pratital and dedicated are pretty accurate but patient I am certainly not! The rest of it is spot on! I wish I had this before the whole bridal con situation happened to me...me and my super stubborn streak!!
  21. Hi Jenny! Congratulations and welcome to the forum. Playa del carmen seems to be a beautiful spot. My FI an I are getting married there on May 27th. Check out The Royal or any of the Real Resorts. I have heard nothing but good things. We are getting married at the Royal. I found this map REALLY helpful when I was choosing my Destination wedding Playa del Carmen Map Good luck!
