I agree with Josie. I made it clear what the cost was to come on the trip and had everyone think about it for a while and let it sink in (sometimes people are all excited and say "ya for sure" and then the reality kicks in). Then I formally asked them. I think as long as you're honest you can avoid disappointment and your WP will respect that about you. It also shows that you're considerate to their personal situation. This is going to sound bad, but its probably better that they aren't going. They sound like dramatic people and you don't need that on your wedding day. To me actions speak louder than words..... I wouldn't waste any energy on them. It doesn't mean that there has to be a war in the family, but I would know where I stand from how they're acting and just move forward. With regards to FI, just be there for him. Always remind him of the positive people and things in his life. You can't pick your family but you can pick your friends. Good luck!

I had the same problem when trying to book . For that reason I ended up going with a TA that specialized in DW's. They allowed me to lock in the price I was quoted but I had to cover deposits for 10 people. Why don't you approach your WP and close friends and family and see if they want to book that price now and then just let everyone else book through who they want? I have found that some people would rather book through someone else anyways because they don't think that what I booked was a good deal. I know, its frustrating.... hang in there

Ultimately its your day and you should do what makes you happy, but if there isn't some sort of extraordinary preference or reason to add the extra travel time then I wouldn't. Stick with something closer so that people don't get too cranky in the heat all dressed up. 50 minutes might not sound like a big deal but it makes for a long day.
