  1. Yeah but it doesn't make sense WHY the state of dept says that all legal marriages performed abroad is VALID in US so we can't get denied for benefits and assests. it doesn't make damn sense! Sorry, I am just frustrated! I will be talking with the HR dept and see if they will accept the Mexican marriage certificate. It is partly our fault for not doing thorough research so I can't get mad at anyone...we honestly thought it was valid in US according to the state of dept. We failed to check directly with Harris county. We ARE legally married so nobody can't say that we are not married. Oh well.
  2. Lisa, here is an update on my issue. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...d-texas-60322/ I would suggest you to get married before going to Mexico to avoid any headaches. Apparently a bride from Dallas is experiencing the same issue as me. It seems that every county in Texas is different when it comes to foreign marriages. IT SUCKS BALLS!!!

We let everyone know that rates change all the time but they just keep going up and that our TA would match any other on line sites if they pay in full. This got everyone booking very quickly and handling their own plans , less stress for me lol Same here! I didn't want to be responsible for any missed deposits.

Im glad that I dont have to get legally married before we leave now. Thats good news! Don't get your hopes high. We called the county clerk's office again and asked if we could take our marriage certificate if it was translated. They still said no they won't accept it even though its translated. Sigh. She gave us two options - we go get a Formal Married License ($71) and get remarried, or get an Informal Married License ($36), but she doesn’t know if the SSN, DMV, or Passport will accept the Informal one. Informal is like a common law marriage certificate. We will go to the Mexican consulate this friday and see if they can point us to something. I guess it is up to every county, not the state or federal when it comes to marriages. It is so stupid!!
  5. you have to log in your account in order to see the pics...thats what i did.
  6. Here is what i got from The Royal thread when i posted about my issue. Hi Lady Di, I just got a reply back from a friend who got married in 2009 in Puerto Vallarta, and (both US citizens) resides Austin, TX. Copy & Pasted: They should take their Mexico marriage certificate to the county clerk, get the certificate filed, and pay the filing fee. We had ours translated before bringing it in. Should be relatively straight forward. Because if it's legal in Mexico, it's legal in the US - as a whole. ------------------------------------ We are going to try again with Harris county clerk and see what they say because seriously it doesn't make sense if that couple was able to do that but we can't do it.

I just dont know if every county is same when it comes with foreign marriages. I hope this is true!!

I sent him inspirations and he was able to match them! We didn't meet with him before the trip so email sufficed. It is up to you if you want to meet him. no, he didn't give me a price list..he just gave me prices for what i wanted.
  9. Ugh, this sucks. I think it is more of county level than the state level. DH is going to the Mexican consulate Friday to see if they can point us in the right direction. Once we find out any info, i will definitely post. We don't want to get married again because it is basically saying that the first time was fake.
  10. Love your dress, Diane! Chicago Bride, thank you for the info! It does say its legal in US so hopefully we will get this issue sorted out!
  11. It clearly says that any legal marriages performed abroad is valid in U.S. BUT it is up to every state/county if they want to accept them which sucks! I would check with the county you live in. We thought it was fine and thought federal gov trumps over state/county. Harris county doesn't recognize any legal marriages outside of the state so i am not sure if it is the same with any other county in Texas. DH is going to a Mexican consulate this Friday and try to get this issue sorted out.
  12. Thats why we got threw off with this issue...on the state of dept, it clearly says that any marriages performed legally abroad is legal! I guess we didn't think of checking with the county. this blows. Please do let me know any more info! I can't change my name until late October anyways because I have a booked plane ticket under my current name.
  13. not sure...i am doing more research by talking with other texan brides who got married legally in Mexico. I hope we won't have to get married again because that would suck.
  14. Hi ladies, This thread is more directed to any Texas brides or anyone that know about this subject. We got legally married a few weeks ago in Mexico. I looked at the State of Dept website and saw this bit. In general, marriages which are legally performed and valid abroad are also legally valid in the United States. Inquiries regarding the validity of a marriage abroad should be directed to the attorney general of the state in the United States where the parties to the marriage live. Marriage of U.S. Citizens Abroad So I assumed that we would be good to go but I failed to check with the county clerk to see if they will accept any foreign marriage certificates. They told us that we had to get married again in order to get our marriage recognized. It doesn't really make sense if the state of dept says its legal anywhere in u.s.! So we were directed to this family code under Texas. Sec. 2.001. MARRIAGE LICENSE. (a) A man and a woman desiring to enter into a ceremonial marriage must obtain a marriage license from the county clerk of any county of this state. FAMILY CODE**CHAPTER 2. THE MARRIAGE RELATIONSHIP I'm wondering if any past Texan brides faced this issue. Are we out of luck and have to get married again?
  15. Lisa, are you still planning to get married legally in Mexico? It turns out that Texas does not recognize any marriages performed out of the state! On the dept of state, it says that any marriages performed abroad is legal in U.S. and that's why we went ahead with the legal ceremony. I am seriously pissed.
  16. This is what we had...we brought the monogram and heart cake topper and they provided shells.

They did a good job with my mom though. Quote: Originally Posted by Lisa DSO I just emailed Fernando lol!!! Diana, did you say Norma came to the resort? I'm nervous about everyone not knowing what they are doing....or do I just line everything up myself and tell everyone? Maybe I should tell everyone a time the day before to meet, show them the gazeebo (since most are staying at Royal and wedding is at Real) and do a dinner. Is it hard to get reservations for about 30 ppl? How far in advance should I make the reservation...a day...a week before? Actually, we didn't go over how the ceremony will go but I had already had a practice with the wedding party before the mexico so it went well. For a legal ceremony, it's vows, exchange of rings, signing the certificate, and declaration of husband and wife. You can write up how you want the ceremony to be and i am sure they will do what you want since it's symbolic.
  18. Try taking probitics so it will wash out any bad bacteria. I am so sorry you have to deal with it. Feel better. Mckee, ouch! Did you pay her? She should refund your money! I hope you can find someone to fix it. How did she butcher it?
  19. I forgot to mention in my review that my bridesmaids were able to go to my room three hours before the ceremony. THey went through the wedding center. Also, forgot to mention that it was supposed to be champange only for the cocktail hour but I guess our guests kept coming up to the bar set up for our reception so they opened it early.

I also wanted to know about the sea shells on the cake and if you recommend any other resturant for the rehessal dinner? Thanks again!! I am not entirely sure if they are willing to close down one of the restaurants for a rehearsal dinner. From what I know, they provide same menu from the wedding for rehearsal dinner and will provide a location (beach, garden and etc). You would have to talk with the WC about it.
